Abstract

The number of cancer patients is increasing from year to year, the low cure rate of cancer patients increasingly shows many influencing factors. For patients diagnosed with cancer, initial health conditions will decline. In this situation, it is necessary to fulfill the spiritual health needs of cancer patients to reduce the negative impact on the patient's quality of life. To deal with cancer disease management such as: chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy requires a good quality of life so as not to slow down the healing process. The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between the fulfillment of basic spiritual health needs and the quality of life of cancer patients. This type of research is an observational analytic with a crosssectional design to determine the relationship between fulfilling basic spiritual health needs and the quality of life of cancer patients. The study population was cancer patients at the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, Cancer Patient Shelter and Patients at Dr. Moewardi Surakarta Hospital. The study sample size was 100 respondents who were taken using non-probability sampling technique type purposive sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire and data analysis using the Pearson Chi Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents' gender was female (65%), the majority of respondents' last education was elementary school or equivalent (49%), the majority of respondents' spiritual health was in the moderate category (68%) and the majority of respondents' quality of life was in the good category (69%). The results of the Pearson Chi Square test analysis showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between the fulfillment of basic human needs for spiritual health and the quality of life of cancer patients (p=0.018). The entire health team caring for patients with cancer should be able to fulfill the spiritual needs of patients as much as possible by involving support from the family.

Abstract

Adequate nutrition is very important for the body, especially during the growth and development of children. Stunting is a condition of impaired growth in children under five years of age due to chronic malnutrition. This study aims to determine the effect of providing additional animal protein through complementary feeding (MP-ASI) and education based on visual media on the anthropometric parameter of waist circumference in children with stunting. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The study involved a sample of 9 respondents who were children with stunting in the working area of the Jayengan Public Health Center, Surakarta City. The sample criteria included children with a waist circumference not appropriate for their age. Total sampling was used as the sampling technique, meaning all eligible individuals from the population were included in the study. The implications of this research indicate that the combination of providing additional animal protein through complementary feeding (MP-ASI) and visual media-based education is an effective strategy for improving the nutritional status of children with stunting. Specifically, this combined intervention significantly increased the children's waist circumference after the program. This demonstrates that the method successfully improved a crucial anthropometric parameter related to the nutritional status of stunted children. The practical implication is that this approach can be implemented by health workers in public health centers (puskesmas) or community health posts (posyandu) as a nutritional program model to accelerate stunting reduction, particularly in areas with high stunting prevalence and limited access to information.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM), as a major non-communicable disease, continues to pose a global health challenge due to its rapidly increasing prevalence. In Indonesia, approximately 11.3% of the adult population is affected by diabetes. The chronic nature of DM substantially influences patients’ quality of life across physical, psychological, social, and role-related domains. Consequently, effective DM management requires not only medical treatment but also psychosocial support to enhance patients’ adaptive capacity. This study aimed to examine the relationship between performance accomplishment and physiological–emotional state and overall adaptation among patients with Diabetes Mellitus. A correlational cross-sectional design was employed involving 145 patients with type 2 DM recruited from Jayengan Primary Health Center (Surakarta) and Tambak Rejo Primary Health Center (Surabaya). Data were collected using self-efficacy source questionnaires and an adaptation instrument based on Roy’s Adaptation Model. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that performance accomplishment was significantly associated with patient adaptation (B = 8.110; β = 0.394; p = 0.001), as was physiological–emotional state (B = 6.765; β = 0.286; p = 0.001). Performance accomplishment emerged as the most dominant contributor to adaptation. These findings highlight the importance of DM management interventions that prioritize gradual mastery experiences and emotional support to strengthen patients’ adaptive responses
