Abstract

Artikel ini mendiskusikan bagaimana pesantren memiliki kemampuan untuk bernegosiasi dengan modernitas. Pesantren dengan modernitas adalah dua hal yang tidak bisa dipisahkan. Pesantren direpresentasikan sebagai penjaga tradisi-tradisi luhur yang dimiliki oleh Indonesia, sementara kecenderungan modernitas menegasikan eksistensi dari tradisi-tradisi tersebut. Landasan filosofis inilah yang menjadi tujuan utama dari penulisan artikel inidengan mendemonstrasikan Pondok Pesantren DDI Mangkoso yang berlokasi di Sulawesi Selatan yang sukses mempertahankan tradisi dan pada saat yang bersamaan mampu berdialog dengan modernitas. Adapun jenis penelitian yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah qualitatif. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti mempraktekkan triangulasi, observasi, wawancara dan pengumpulan dokumen-dokumen yang terkait dengan pesantren dan modernitas. Data-data tersebut kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pondok Pesantren DDI Mangkoso memiliki kapabilitas dan kompetensi dalam melakukan negosiasi dan dialog dengan arus globalisasi dan modernitas. Keberhasilan pesantren ini karena didukung oleh kreatifitas dan inovasi pesantren dalam menjembatani tradisi dan modernitas. Beberapa strategi yang dijabarkan dalam pesantren ini adalah mendefinisikan ulang makna modernitas, mengadopsi sistem pendidikan madrasah, pembinaan bahasa Inggris, serta pembentukan karakter kemandirian.

Abstract

This paper examines the notion of Asghar Ali Engineer’s view on tauhid. Engineer is one of the leading thinkers as well as an activist who was not only generating the ideas of rethinking but also involved in a variety of activities relating to reformation of Islamic thought. This employs  qualitative research through collecting datas and information from different manuscripts, books, and journals. The main objective of this research is demonstrating the urgency of reformulating the meaning of tauhid. The finding suggests that tauhid is the core of Islamic teaching. It is the basic tenet of any religions that may generate a power to liberate human being from any kind of discrimination. In other words, tauhid is an energy that can guide mankind released from ignorance, oppression and poverty. Tauhid not only concerned on the unity of God but also the oneness of society. Classless society is the ultimate goal of tauhid that lead to set the people on the same position before the God.

Abstract

Artikel ini memperbincangkan potret teologi Islam klasik dalam konteks dunia kontemporer. Tiga paham teologi yang menjadi tema sentral dalam artikel ini adalah jabariah, muktazilah dan ahlu as-sunnah wa al-jamaah. Ketiga-tiganya telah mewarnai sejarah peradaban Islam mulai dari Bani Umayyah sampai pada Bani Abbasiah. Jabariah telah menjadi mazhab resmi pada masa kekhalifahan Bani Umayyah, sementara muktazilah dan ahlu as-sunnah wa al-jamaah telah mewarnai kejayaan dan keemasan Bani Abbasiah. Salah satu problem mendasar yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksistensi teologi Islam klasik yang belum bisa menjawab problematikan kekinian. Teologi Islam klasik masih berkutat pada persoalan-persoalan normative seperti dosa besar, surga dan neraka, belum membuka diri pada issu-issu yang terkait dengan sosial kemasyarakatan seperti kemiskinan, kelaparan, serta ketidakadilan. Artikel ini merekomendasikan perlunya rekonstruksi terhadap bangunan teologi Islam dengan mendekatkan pada soal-soal riil yang terjadi di tengah-tengah masyarakat.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of the al-Jami' Campus Da'wah Institute (LDK) in shaping the religious understanding of UIN Alauddin Makassar (UINAM) students. The type of research used is qualitative by taking case studies on students of UIN Alauddin Makassar. In collecting data, researchers conducted interviews with several LDK student figures and observed various activities carried out by LDK. The results showed that LDK al-Jami' contributed greatly in increasing the literacy of the Qur'an among UINAM students, especially students from general faculties. LDK even teaches students to pray on time and invites students to follow the sunnahs of the Prophet Muhammad. However, the religious spirit that is close-minded has become an important character for elements of the LDK management which in turn has colored the religious character of students. In other words, the religious nature of exclusivism is more dominant than the spirit of inclusiveness in religion. Their motto is to return to classical traditions and to replicate the romance of the progress and glories of Islam in the past.

Abstract

The study discusses the theological perspectives of Jemaah Tabligh (hereafter: JT) in Makassar in contending COVID 19. It employs qualitative research methodology through conducting observation, focusing on group discussion, and document collection. Two different groups of JT become the object of interview, JT Seluruh Alam and JT Maulana Saad (MS). The researchers picked up some crucial figures from JT members. The research found that the theological perspectives of JT regarding COVID 19 from two different schools of theology, Jabariah (fatalism) and Asy’ariyah. The researcher concluded that Jabariah influenced the attitudes of JT Maulana Saad, and Asy’ariyah affected the way of thinking of JT seluruh alam. Both different schools of theology existed in the life of JT, not only in the context of COVID 19 but also in public life. Besides, the internal dispute of JT in India influenced the thinking among JT adherents in Makassar.

Abstract

Misi utama Nabi Muhammad swt. diutus oleh Allah ke muka bumi ini, adalah mengokohkan ke-Esaan Tuhan dan menegakkan kalimat Tauhid (la>ilah}a illah) dan pemurnian akidah bangsa Arab yang terkontaminasi budaya jahiliyah, serta bertaklid kepada nenek moyang. Namun pasca wafatnya Nabi Muhammad diskursus seputar kalam atau teologi dalam Islam menjadi hangat diperbincangkan. Pada masa Ali bin Abi Thalib menjadi khalifah, konteks politik dalam Islam mulai berkembang, terkait perbincangan teologi. Kemudian diskursus tersebut berkembang menjadi aliran teologi Islam. Beberapa perdebatan seputar ketuhanan, menurut aliran Mu’tazilah, Asy`ariah, dan Maturudiyah yakni seputar sifat Tuhan, iman dan kufur, perbuatan Tuhan dan pebuatan manusia, kehendak mutlak dan keadilah Tuhan, wahyu dan akal, dan pelaku dosa besar. Konsepsi tentang Tuhan adalah inti dari setiap kepercayaan manusia. Tuhan selalu berada di puncak bangunan piramida kebutuhan manusia yang berkaitan dengan masalah keimanan. Di sini kita dapat memahami bersama bahwa menyembah Tuhan adalah cara manusia menuju ketakterhinggaan. Rana Tuhan yang tak terbatas kemudian dibahas di wilayah yang "terbatas". Artinya Tuhan ada dalam konsepsi manusia, sehingga konsepsi yang dibangun kemudian menjadikan Tuhan termasuk golongan tertentu. Hal inilah yang kemudian menjadi perbincangan madzhab dalam Islam.

Abstract

Uniting Allah swt is one of the obligatory foundations in Islam. Therefore, Islamic scholars flocked to look for a valid concept of the oneness of Allah when faced with the plurality of things that can be sensed by humans, be it the sun, moon, mountains, trees, animals, to the plurality of humans themselves. As one of the colors of Islam, Sufism was also present to develop the concept of monotheism. Which is filled with debates between the pros and cons to this day. His understanding that looks eccentric/anti-mainstream is often in the spotlight. So that not a few Sufi figures were excommunicated, imprisoned, tortured and killed. Concepts such as fana', baqa', ittihad, Hulul, Wihdat al-Manifest, Nur Muhammad to the limits of the Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama'ah madhhab in Sufism are intellectual and cultural properties that were inherited by the previous Sufis to the generations of Islam after them. Therefore, this research is a library research, which tries to answer questions about the Sufism concept of the plurality of beings and the oneness of The Creator.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the gender thinking of Amina Wadud Muhsin in the view of Hans Georg Gadamer's Hermeneutics. This research is library research using a research approach, namely: philosophical, grammatical, linguistic and phenomenological approaches. Then the source of this research data is taken from books, articles and journals related to the thoughts of Amina Wadud with Gadamer. Furthermore, the data analysis method used is descriptive method, content analysis, interpretation method, comparison, taxonomy. The results of this study indicate that: First, related to Amina Wadud's gender thinking, namely: 1. The creation of humans. According to Amina Wadud that the origin of humans, both male and female, comes from one nafs which is part of the paired system. 2. Leader. Amina Wadud strongly rejected Qawwamun to be limited to the position of men compared to women. However, there must be harmony, so Amina Wadud proposes a new idea, namely the "functionalist" concept. 3. Polygamy. For Amina Wadud, the concept of polygamy is not supported in religion, because there is no justice for women. Amina's gender thinking in the perspective of Hans Georg Gadamer's hermeneutics, in this case the interpreter's position. Amina Wadud places great emphasis on text priors and context. In this case the prior text concerns the background of an interpreter, his views and circumstances. Because an interpreter must dialogue with the text in accordance with any conditions and at any time. Likewise with Gadamer, the concept of language is the most important. This is what Gadamer calls "the influence of history".

Abstract

This article discusses environmental theology with Islamic law from the perspective of scholars and scholars in Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The research uses qualitative methods with a theological approach and Islamic law as an analytical tool. Theology is used to analyze Islamic concepts of the environment as opposed to Islamic law. In obtaining the data, researchers interviewed religious figures who became role models for the people of Makassar, in addition to using literature study techniques. The results showed that Makassarese Muslim scholars are well aware that environmental theology is an alternative solution to overcome the environmental crisis. They believe that the two main sources of Islam, the Quran and Hadith, pay great attention to the protection and maintenance of the environment. Similarly, Prophet Muhammad PBUH is the best example among leaders who care deeply about the environment. Furthermore, this study also concludes that first, environmental theology is a theology that not only discusses man's relationship with God but also discusses man's relationship with social, cultural, environmental, and social reality. Environmental theology focuses on the extent of human concern for nature and the environment. Second, the foundation of environmental theology can be traced from two main sources of Islam, namely the Qur'an, and Hadith. The Qur'an pays great attention to the protection and preservation of the environment. Likewise, Prophet Muhammad PBUH, in his various traditions also emphasized the importance of protecting and maintaining the environment. Third, environmental theology is closely related to Islamic law specifically ecological fiqh, which focuses on practical explanations of how to protect the environment. If environmental theology is oriented towards philosophical foundations in environmental conservation, then Islamic law requires the importance of protecting the environment as a benefit for humans and nature.

Abstract

Discussions about the universe are still debated today. Over the next few generations, these ideas received many responses, both pros and cons related to the concept of emanation. This article aims to examine several views of Islamic philosophers regarding the concept of emanation which is connected to the concept of the creation of the universe based on modern science. This research is included in the library research category, namely research that uses documents and literature data to help find a synthesis of the data being analyzed. Based on this study, it appears that the concept of emanation developed by Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina is in accordance with the Big Bang theory or Big Bang. However, the concept of emanation between the two still results in disagreement with the concept of creation held by the beliefs of Muslims in general.
