Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the use effect of durian seed flour as a source of energy in the ration of the male local duck growth performance. This research was conducted in experimental cages of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Faculty Tadulako University, using 80 ducks for 8 weeks. This study was designed using completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were tested, as follows: R0 (control); R1 (5% boiled durian seed flour replacing corn in the control diet); R2 (10% boiled durian seed flour replacing corn in the control diet); R3 (5% durian seed flour without replacing corn in the control diet) and R4 (10% durian seed flour without replacing corn in the control diet) with 20% protein iso and 3,100 kcal metabolizable energy iso. Data were analyzed using analysis of diversity according to the design used and followed by honestly significant difference test. The results showed that the treatment significant effect (P <0.05) on feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion. Treatment composition that gives the best results, namely the R1 treatment with the use of 5% boiled durian seed flour replacing corn in the ration, with average feed consumption 5.069g; 1.100g body weight gain; and conversion of 4.61. Keywords: duck performance, durian seed flour, male local duck

Abstract

This experiment was designed to study effects of including garlic powder in a diet on the growth and nitrogen contents of excreta in broiler chicken.  A total of 100 day old chicks was used and confined in 20 cages during the experiment during which they were fed on a diet consisting     of mixture of ground corn, rice bran, ground soybean, fish meal, copra meal, topmix and garlic powder. The animals were arranged in a completely randomized design with five dietary treatments each of which was repeated four times. The dietary treatments tested were the inclusion leves of garlic powder in diets: 0% (R0), 1.5% (R1), 3% (R2), 4.5% (R3) and 6% (R4). The chickens were allowed to gow for 42 d during which fresh drinking water was also always available. Data on growth performance and nitrogen contents of excreta were analyzed with an analysis of variance. Results indicated that the dietary treatment affected (P<0.01) broiler’s body weight gain, feed conversion and nitrogen content of the excreta, but it did not affect (P>0.05) feed intake. The best results on growth rate (2,348.70g) and feed conversion (1.59) were found for R3. Nitrogen content of excreta was lower by 61.71% for treatment R4 in comparison to control treatment. Key words: Broiler, diet, excreta, garlic, growth.

Abstract

Chicken meat is an animal product for bussines. The meat is consumed nearly everyday by human being. Uncontrolled use of antibiotics in animal feed produces a negative impact on both animal and human being, who consume animal product. As a traditional herbal, garlic has an active substance called allicin. This active substance can be used to improve performance and carcass quality of broilers. An experiment was conducted to study effect of garlic meal in the diet on cholesterol and carcass quality of broilers. A total of 100 day old chicks has used. A completely randomized design was adapted with 5 treatment and 4 raplicate cages of birds each. Differences every treatment were tested with Duncan’s multiple range test. Experimental diets used were : control diet (R0), 1.5% garlic meal (R1), 3% garlic meal (R2), 4.5% garlic meal (R3) and 6% garlic meal (R4). Feed and water were offered ad libitum, birds were kept for 42 days for performance and carcass quality data. Three birds from each cage were slangheered for measuring cholesterol. The result showed that treatment gave a significant effect (P<0.05) on meat cholesterol levels. However, feed intake, carcass percentage, carcass parts and abdominal fat was not significantly (P>0.05) affected by treatment R3 with 4.5% garlic meal produced the best result. In conclusion, the result of this study indicated that the use of garlic meal in the diet result in good cholesterol and carcass quality. Key words : Garlic, Cholesterol, Carcass Quality
