Abstract

The development of vapor compression refrigeration systems currently depends on the issue of environmental problems related to ozone layer depletion (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP). In addition to environmental issues, low energy use is also in the spotlight of researchers. To solve the problem of refrigeration development, natural refrigeration, especially hydrocarbons, is the focus of attention. Hydrocarbons are refrigerants that have excellent properties to be natural refrigerants. This study aims to compare the performance of refrigerant R-134a with R-290. The research used a standard vapor compression refrigeration system with a TEV-type expansion valve. The system performance is seen through compression, refrigeration effect, and COP with variations in compressor rotational speed of 1000 rpm, 1500 rpm, and 2000 rpm. The results showed that the compression work, refrigeration effect, and coefficient of performance (COP) of R-290 had a more excellent value. R-290 produces the highest compression work at a 2000 rpm compressor speed of 33.34 kJ/kg for the refrigeration effect at 1000 rpm of 353.33 kJ/kg and COP at 1500 rpm 12.32.

Abstract

Motorized vehicles have become a fundamental necessity in Indonesia, with each household owning at least one motorcycle highly favored by the community. The increase in the number of motorcycles reflects the performance of the automotive industry and the continuous improvement of people's purchasing power. Despite contributing positively to economic growth and mobility, the growth of motorized vehicles also brings negative impacts such as traffic congestion, air pollution, and dependence on imported petroleum. Exhaust emissions from vehicles, containing CO2, NOx, CO, VHC, and other particles, have serious implications for human health and the environment. The initiative to use environmentally friendly transportation technology, as adopted by the European Union with Euro emission standards, is crucial in reducing these negative impacts. In Indonesia, the adoption of Euro 4 emission standards in 2018 for gasoline-fueled cars and in 2021 for diesel cars is a positive step, despite the delay for diesel cars until 2022. Previous research indicates that alternative fuels like LPG can reduce exhaust emissions. Additionally, using a filter in motorcycle mufflers, especially with zeolite as a medium, can effectively reduce CO and HC levels. However, there is no in-depth research on the saturation level of zeolite's absorption capacity for exhaust emissions. Therefore, this study focuses on exploring the saturation level of zeolite material with various sizes to absorb exhaust emissions, particularly HC, CO, and CO2 in motorized vehicles. The research results reveal that the optimal outcome for the saturation level of zeolite material absorption in the muffler filter of Yamaha Jupiter Z 110cc vehicles is achieved using 10 grams of zeolite powder with mesh size 50. The best CO concentration reduction occurs at 1000 rpm for 35 minutes, achieving a 66.9% reduction, reaching 2.85%. For HC, the best result is obtained in testing with 10 grams of zeolite powder mesh 50 at 1000 rpm for 20 minutes, with a 90.58% reduction, reaching 227 ppm. The optimal CO2 testing is conducted with 10 grams of zeolite powder mesh 50 at 1000 rpm for 30 to 40 minutes, resulting in a 21.95% reduction, reaching 13.4%. These findings indicate that the use of muffler filters with zeolite powder can significantly reduce exhaust emissions in Yamaha Jupiter Z 110cc, contributing positively to efforts in controlling air pollution from motorized vehicles

Abstract

This study presents the analysis of thermodynamic behavior and energy efficiency of a vapor compression refrigeration system with two types of condensers: air-cooled (ACC) and water-cooled (WCC). The main objective is to assess the system performance by comparing the Coefficient of Performance (COP) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) under both condenser configurations. During a 12-hour test period, data on refrigerant pressure, temperature, and electrical energy consumption were collected and analyzed. The results show that the WCC system outperforms the ACC system, showing a 5.7% increase in heat rejection and a 4.2% increase in cooling capacity. In addition, the WCC system exhibits a lower compressor duty cycle and consumes less electrical energy, resulting in a higher total EER of 5.658 compared to ACC of 1.945. These findings suggest that integrating a water-cooled condenser into a refrigeration system can significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs, making it a viable option for commercial applications in tropical regions.

Abstract

Sugihmanik, Tanggungharjo District, Grobogan Regency have tofu industry center with 30 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME). It is hoped that these MSMEs can improve the community's economy, but on the other hand they can also cause pollution problems for the environment. The waste produced in tofu processing production activities reaches an average of 67,997 m3/day from tofu production, with a total demand for soybeans of around 3200 kg/day. Some of this waste is thrown into rivers, which hurts the ecosystem in a chain that results in the death of aquatic animals, the agricultural environment, and unpleasant odors. Based on the problems in MSMEs, this activity proposes the technology design for converting biogas gas into electricity. The method to solve this problem is to utilize energy from tofu industry waste converted into electrical energy. In implementing biogas conversion technology, it can be tested with a partner electricity load of 1500 watts. However, this technology still has several obstacles. When changing modes, the generator machine for converting biogas into electrical energy requires a manual synchronization system. So, it requires training from partners. In the future, this activity will continue with the development of automatic synchronizing control systems, making it easier to use
