Abstract

The concept of the human respiratory system is abstract, making it difficult for elementary school students in the concrete operational thinking stage. Schools primarily use textbooks and conventional teaching aids, which lack interactive visual support. A questionnaire administered to 54 students revealed that 81.84% found it easier to understand the material with 3D visualization, and 90.74% were interested in learning using technology-based media. These findings highlight the need for contextual and visual learning media. This study aims to develop Augmented Reality-based learning media using the Contextual Teaching and Learnig (CTL) approach through the Assemblr EDU application; determine its feasibility through expert validation; analyze its practically through limited trials with students; and analyze teachers’ responses during the dissemination phase. The research employed a Research and Development method using the 4D model, which includes Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. Data collection techniques involved interviews, expert validation questionnaires, and student and teacher response questionnaires. Validation results indicated high feasibility, with scores of 88.57% (content expert) and 82.67% (media expert). Trials with 12 students showed a practicality score of 91.67% (very interesting) and teacher responses averaged 89.14% from 50 teachers. The developed media is feasible, practical, and potentially applicable in elementary science learning.

Abstract

This study develops and evaluates a Canva-assisted Project Based Learning (PjBL) digital worksheet (LKPD) for food chain instruction in 5th-grade elementary students, using the ADDIE Research and Development model with a convergent mixed-method approach. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design involved 27 students in the experimental group (UPTD SDN 2 Way Mili) and 21 in the control group (UPTD SDN 3 Way Mili), selected through purposive sampling based on comparable baseline characteristics and infrastructure. Data were collected via expert validation sheets, critical thinking tests (10 essay items; validity 0.412-0.789; reliability 0.856), collaboration observation sheets, and response questionnaires, and analyzed using V-Aiken, descriptive statistics, Paired and Independent Sample T-Tests, and N-Gain Score. The digital worksheet achieved very valid status (V-Aiken = 0.90, 90.4%) and was rated very practical by students (93.4%) and teachers (4.59/5.00). The experimental group demonstrated significantly higher critical thinking gains (N-Gain = 0.78, high category) compared to the control group (N-Gain = 0.35, medium category), with statistically significant inter-group differences (t = 8.73; p < 0.001). These findings confirm that the integration of PjBL syntax with Canva’s interactive features effectively develops higher-order thinking skills aligned with 21st-century learning competencies.

Abstract

Background: This experimental study explores the integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and the Mathtastic application to enhance mathematical reasoning and collaborative skills among primary school students. Aims: Grounded in constructivist learning theory, the research aims to determine the effectiveness of a technology-supported PBL approach in fostering students’ higher-order thinking and teamwork abilities in the context of mathematics education. Methods: The study employed a quasi-experimental design with control and experimental groups comprising Grade 5 students from a public elementary school. The experimental group received mathematics instruction through PBL integrated with the Mathtastic app, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Data were collected using pre- and post-tests on mathematical reasoning, a collaboration rubric, and observation sheets. Result: The results showed a statistically significant improvement in the reasoning and collaboration performance of students in the experimental group compared to those in the control group. These findings suggest that combining PBL with interactive educational technology like Mathtastic can create a more engaging and effective learning environment for young learners. Conclusion: The study provides practical implications for teachers seeking to integrate digital tools and inquiry-based approaches to enrich mathematics learning experiences at the primary level.

Abstract

Masih banyaknya miskonsepsi siswa SD tentang fotosintesis menjadi dasar pengembangan majalah berbasis Augmented Reality (AR) sebagai media pembelajaran yang interaktif. Kemampuan pemahaman konsep menjadi kunci penting dalam pemecahan masalah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan majalah berbasis augmented reality untuk mereduksi miskonsepsi siswa pada materi fotosistesis tumbuhan. Jenis penelitian adalah research and development dengan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu eksperimen dan kontrol masing-masing siswa kelas IV di SD Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng dan SD Negeri 3 Kedungbanteng. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Kelas eksperimen menerapkan media majalah berbasis augmented realit sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan media powerpoint. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi wawancara, angket, dan tes. Analisis data dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Analisis kuantitatif terdiri dari uji statistika normalitas, homogenitas, dan uji t. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa media majalah berbasis augmented reality mencapai kategori valid dan praktis. Hasil uji statistika menunjukkan bahwa data berdistribusi normal dan homogen dengan masing-masing nilai signifikansi 0,095 dan 0,422 lebih dari 0,05. Hasil uji t diperoleh nilai signifikansi 0,000 kurang dari 0,05. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran yang menggunakan media majalah berbasis augmented reality efektif mereduksi miskonsepsi siswa pada materi fotosintesis tumbuhan. Penelitian ini direkomendasikan sebagai salah satu media pembelajaran inovatif yang dapat dimanfaatkan guru untuk meminimalkan miskonsepsi siswa sekolah dasar terkait konsep fotosintesis tumbuhan.

Abstract

Environmental issues have become a growing global concern, making it essential to instill environmental awareness and collaboration skills in students from an early age. However, preliminary observations in several elementary schools in Kalimanah District, Purbalingga, revealed that science and social studies learning (IPAS) is still dominated by lecture-based methods, resulting in low student engagement, limited environmental awareness, and underdeveloped collaboration skills. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on environmental awareness and collaboration skills among fourth-grade elementary school students. The research employed a quantitative approach involving 60 fourth-grade students in Kalimanah District, Purbalingga, divided into an experimental group (PBL) and a control group (expository learning). Data were collected through environmental awareness questionnaires and collaboration skills observation sheets and analyzed using inferential statistics, including independent-sample t-tests and correlation analysis. The findings showed that the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher environmental awareness and improved collaboration skills compared to the control group. All indicators of environmental awareness—such as maintaining classroom and school cleanliness, caring for plants, supporting green programs, managing organic and non-organic waste, and maintaining sanitation facilities—improved substantially under the PBL model. Furthermore, active group interaction during PBL activities facilitated the development of collaboration skills, including shared responsibility, communication, and joint problem-solving. These results indicate that PBL effectively enhances students’ environmental attitudes and collaborative competencies through hands-on, contextualized, and meaningful learning experiences, offering both theoretical and practical implications for elementary science and social studies education.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the “Sekolahku Pesantrenku” program in shaping the religious character of elementary school students. The background of this research is the increasing concern over moral degradation among students in the 21st century, which requires schools to strengthen character education through structured religious habituation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation process of the program, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and examine its impact on students’ religious character development. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design conducted at SD Negeri 1 Karangmangu. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving teachers, students, and parents. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the program is implemented through daily, weekly, and integrated curriculum activities such as congregational prayers, *Qur’an* recitation, memorization of short *s?rahs*, and moral habituation. The findings indicate that the program significantly improves students’ discipline, worship habits, moral behavior, and social attitudes. Supporting factors include teacher role modeling, parental involvement, and school commitment, while challenges include differences in student abilities and limited time allocation. In conclusion, the *“Sekolahku Pesantrenku”* program effectively strengthens students’ religious character through continuous habituation and integrated learning practices, although improvements in monitoring and consistency are still needed to maximize its impact.

Abstract

The development of 21st-century skills, particularly learning independence and critical thinking, has become an important focus in elementary education. However, many elementary school students still demonstrate limited independence in managing their learning processes and underdeveloped critical thinking skills due to the dominance of conventional teacher-centered learning approaches. Project-Based Learning (PjBL) is considered an effective instructional model because it encourages students to actively construct knowledge through meaningful experiences, problem-solving activities, and real-world projects. This study aimed to examine the effect of water rocket-based Project-Based Learning on elementary school students’ learning independence and critical thinking skills. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The participants were elementary school students from the Rantasari Cluster, Ajibarang District, with data collected through observation, critical thinking tests, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using prerequisite tests, independent-samples t-tests, and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that PjBL through water rocket-making activities significantly improved students’ critical thinking skills (p = 0.023 < 0.05) and learning independence (p = 0.012 < 0.05) compared with conventional learning methods. Furthermore, critical thinking skills and learning independence demonstrated a significant moderate relationship, with a correlation coefficient of 0.490. These findings indicated that water rocket-based PjBL provided meaningful learning experiences that promoted student autonomy, exploration, collaboration, and higher-order thinking skills. Therefore, PjBL can be recommended as an innovative instructional strategy to strengthen elementary students’ critical thinking and independent learning abilities.

Abstract

In the process of learning the underlying mathematical concepts in students, it is often the case that the process stabdards of students mathematical competence have not been completed. Mathematics has a standard mathematical process, namely problem solving, reasoning, communication, connection, and representation. This type of research is a quasi experimental research using posttest only control design which aims to determine whether there is an effect of the Predict Observe Explaint (POE) learning model on the standard process of mathematics competence of grade V students of MIM Petambakan, Banjarnegara. Hypothesis testing in this study used a t-test which was preceded by a normality test using the kolmogrov-smirnov test and homogeneity test using Levene’s test. The test was conducted using SPSS 22 with a significance level of 5%. Based on the results of statistical analysis, it is obtained that there is a positive and insignificant influence between the Predict Observe Explaint (POE) learning model on the standard process of mathematics competence in class V MIM Petambakan with a sig value of 0.923>0.05 and beta standard coefficient 0.919.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the implementation of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) approach on critical thinking and collaboration for class IV elementary school for the IPAS learning in Kecamatan Pagedongan. This type of research is quasi-experimental research with The pretest-posttest control group design. Data on critical thinking and collaboration was collected using an assessment instrument in the form of a questionnaire. Data was analyzed using analysis assisted by SPSS 23 for Windows. The results of the research show that: First, there is a significant influence of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) approach on the critical thinking IPAS of class IV students at elementary school Kecamatan Pagedongan. Second, there is a significant influence of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) approach on the collaboration IPAS of class IV students at elementary school Kecamatan Pagedongan. And third, there is a significant influence of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) approach on the critical thinking and collaboration IPAS of class IV students at elementary school Kecamatan Pagedongan.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between critical thinking and creativity among elementary school students, considering the influence of age and gender. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, involving 167 students aged 9-13 years. Non-parametric statistical methods, including Spearman's correlation, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Mann-Whitney U test, were used due to the non-normal distribution of the data. The results revealed a strong positive correlation between critical thinking and creativity (? = 0.902, p = 0.023). Creativity significantly differed by age (H = 1.756; p = 0.041), with the 9-10 year age group exhibiting the highest creativity scores. A significant gender difference was also found in creativity (p = 0.029), with males scoring higher on average. Conversely, females exhibited slightly higher critical thinking scores. The study concludes that critical thinking and creativity are closely related in elementary students, with age and gender playing a significant role. Educational interventions should aim to foster both skills, considering the decline in creativity with age and the observed gender differences.
