Abstract

Cooling tower is defined as a heat exchanger whose working fluid is water and air which functions to cool water by direct contact with air To produce maximum performance from the cooling tower , a filler material is needed which functions to inhibit the flow of water. Rattan has smooth and strong properties against various conditions and is easy to make the desired shape. Previous research on cooling towers has shown that the work performance cooling tower is maximized by using fillers, one of which is using fiber, bamboo and aluminum as fillers.This cooling tower uses 3 layers of rattan filler with the distance between the fillers being equalized with 3 variations of the distance. In the process of testing the same treatment by varying the initial temperature 50 , 60 , 70 , air velocity 4 m/s, 6m/s, 8 m/s, and the distance between fillers 10 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm. Research on cooling towers with rattan as a filler resulted in higher cooling effectiveness and capacity than cooling towers without using fillers. This is evidenced by the highest effectiveness value on a cooling tower with filler material is 96.94%, while the highest value in the cooling tower without filler is 80.24%. The cooling capacity value in the cooling tower with filler is 11.23 kJ/s , while the highest value in the cooling tower without filler is 9.73 kJ/s. Keywords: Cooling Tower, Rattan, Effectiveness

Abstract

Separation condenser is one of the types of condenser equipped with gas and liquid separator. The previous research using separation condenser showed low output temperature of 1.3 K than baseline condenser. This study is to observe the effect of separation and baseline condenser to the performance of the refrigerator with a double evaporator and using LPG and R134A as a refrigerant. This research using a parallel circuit for separation condenser and baseline. The result showed that using R134A gives 0.16% higher value of COP. Meanwhile, using double evaporator with R134A as a refrigerant gives 69.5 % higher value of COP than single evaporator.

Abstract

In solar powered water heaters, solar radiation falls into and then absorbed by tube collectors which are then used as a source of water heaters for household and industrial needs. One effort to improve efficiency in solar-powered water heater systems is by adding a reflector under the collector. The main purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the reflector on the collector's efficiency during the charging period. The tube collector consists of absorber pipes, water pipes, and reflector. While the parabolic reflector is made of stainless to maximize reflection to the collector. In these experiments, the water flow was varied at 0.48 l/min, 0.59 l/min, and 1.82 l/min. Temperature measurements were carried out at several points: (i) inlet, (ii) outlet and (iii) phase change material (PCM). While radiation intensity was measured using a pyranometer. The data were compared between heater with and without the reflector. The highest collector efficiency was achieved when applying 1.82 l/minute with the maximum collector performance with reflector and without a reflector is 76.8% and 69.7% respectively. It is be concluded that the use of reflectors can increase the efficiency of tube collectors for water heaters. The outlet temperature was higher by 1.7% than the previous result when using water flow rate of 0.59 l/min.

Abstract

Research involving thermal characteristics of mixture of biodiesel from kapok (ceibapentandra) and biosolar has been conducted. Biosolar and biodiesel mixed with 5 different composition:B0 (100% biodiesel), B10 (10% biodiesel), B20, B30, and B100 (100% biodiesel). Laboratory experimentwas conducted to obtain several fuel characteristics: heating value, flash point, density, and viscosity.Biosolar is evaporated at a temperature of 120°C and then the steam is flowed to a bunsen burner with afixed discharge (2 ml/minute) and mixed with air in the equivalent ratio variation (φ) 0.8; 1; and 1,2 andturned on. The resulting flame was recorded with the camera and an analysis of the flame was carriedout. Thermal characteristics of this biodiesel have properties in accordance with biosolar standards ofPT Pertamina Indonesia. The heating value of biosolar is 10,602 cal/gram and biodiesel is 8,641cal/gram, and the mixture has heating value among them. As for the characteristics of the flame with highheat values, the core of the flame is covered in blue which shows the highest heat value.

Abstract

Lengkungan S adalah lengkungan berbentuk S pada pipa yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan fleksibilitas yang terjadi akibat adanya pemanasan dan pendinginan pada sistem perpipaan. Lengkungan S sendiri dapat menimbulkan head lossesyang menyebabkan terjadinya penurunan tekanan (pressure drop) pada sistem perpipaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan fluida udara yang dialirkan ke dalam pipa berbentuk S dengan menempatkan titik pengukuran sebelum elbow90°, di antara elbow90°, dan sesudah elbow90°. Penelitian dilakukan dengan memvariasikan panjang jarak antara elbow90° 3D, 5D dan 7D dan variasi arah keluaran sudut 0°, 45°, dan 90°. Kecepatan rata-rata fluida keluaran tertinggi terjadi pada variasi 5D arah keluaran 45° sebesar 16,67 m/s pada titik pengukuran III, sedangkan tekanan rata-rata terendah terjadi pada variasi 3D arah keluaran 45° sebesar 79,21 N/m2 pada titik pengukuran III. Head lossestotal yang paling rendah terjadi pada variasi 3D dan arah keluaran sudut 0° sebesar 14,40 m sedangkan untuk head lossestotal yang paling tinggi terjadi pada variasi 7D dan arah keluaran 90° sebesar 16,09 m.Kata kunci: Elbow90°, head losses, lengkungan S, dan penurunan tekanan.

Abstract

Keterbatasan pengetahuan petani kopi dalam pengolahan dan penggunaan peralatan pasca panen kopi menyebabkan rendahnya mutu kopi di Desa Sucopangepok Jember. Oleh karena terdapat peluang pengembangan produk green coffee dan perbaikan mutu kopi dengan teknologi pengolahan kopi basah. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan petani kopi Desa Sucopangepok dalam penggunaan teknologi dan peralatan pengolahan pasca panen kopi khususnya dengan metode pengolahan basah untuk menghasilkan green coffee. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini yaitu ceramah, focus group discussion, pelatihan dan pendampingan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa petani kopi dapat menerima hasil pelatihan dengan baik, hal ini terbukti dengan antusias dan semangatnya mengikuti kegiatan dari awal sampai akhir. Seluruh peserta menyatakan bahwa kegiatan ini sangat bermanfaat dan lebih dari 50% peserta menyatakan memahami proses pengolahan pasca panen kopi dengan metode basah. Hasil kegiatan juga terlihat dari peningkatan keahlian petani kopi dalam mengoperasikan peralatan pengolahan pasca panen kopi yaitu mesin pengupas biji kopi (pulper), mesin pengering, mesin sortasi biji kopi dan sealer untuk pengemasan produk green coffee yang dihasilkan. peserta. Dari hasil kegiatan tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan dapat memberikan bekal pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada para petani kopi Desa Sucopangepok untuk menghasilkan produk green coffee bernilai jual tinggi.

Abstract

Centrifugal blowers are machines or tools that are used to increase gas pressure or suction with a final pressure not exceeding 2000 Pa. The impeller blade is the most important part of the centrifugal blower which influences the performance of the blower. The rotation of the electric motor that is connected directly to the impeller is something that can affect the performance of the blower. Honeycomb is a component that is used to obtain fluid flow that is in the same direction, uniform, and stable. This study observed the effect of the number of blades on the performance of backward type centrifugal blowers using honeycomb and without the honeycomb. Variations used are the number of blades 13 and 15 using honeycomb and without the honeycomb. Tests were carried out at 400 rpm, 500 rpm, 600 rpm, and 700 rpm. From the results of the study, it was found that the fewer the number of blades, the higher the performance of the blower. Giving honeycomb at the output blower produces a more fluid or even fluid flow. In blade 15 the data distribution value is closer to the average value indicated by a smaller standard deviation value. This is due to the design of the blade impeller between the blades more tightly so that the air produced will be more tightly or evenly distributed, but has a lower wind speed.

Abstract

In high technological times the use of agricultural tools with modern machinery helped accelerate the processing of agricultural production. One of the most common and most commonly used tools is the Tractor. Tractor is a motorized tool that has the ability to preparation the soil. Application of tractor to preparation the soil is mostly done by farmers. A lot of used tractors is the hand tractor. Unsuitableof factor of tractor design to operator and land condition has caused many problems related to comfort, safety and health of work. Handlebar on the hand tractor is still less comfortable and ergonomic considered by the operator. This study aims to identify hand tractor operator complaints of inconvenience in working using RULA analysis of CATIA V5R17 software. Based on anthropometry percentile calculations, the result 1100 mm handlebar height, 650 mm handlebar width, and the distance of the turning lever to a 120 mm handlebar. The percentiles used are 5, 50, and 95 presentations using CATIA V5R17.

Abstract

ABSTRAKDi Dusun Gunung Giri, yang  terletak di Desa Wonosari, Kecamatan Grujugan, Kabupaten Bondowoso,  terdapat sejumlah UMKM pembuat arang kayu. Arang kayu  biasanya digolongkan menjadi tiga A, B dan C.  Harga arang kayu untuk golongan A  adalah Rp. 2.700 per kg, golongan B adalah Rp. 500 per kg , sedangkan untuk golongan C biasanya dibuang.  Sebetulnya produk arang golongan B dan C dapat diolah lebih lanjut menjadi bentuk briket sehingga  memiliki nilai ekonomis yang lebih tinggi. Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) dilaksanakan dengan menggunkan metode penyuluhan dan  pelatihan kepada mitra yang berjmlah sekitar 15 orang pengrajin arang yang pada akhir program dilakukan evaluasi berupa kuisioner dan berkonsultasi berkelanjutan untuk pengambangan produk arang kayu yaitu menjadikan arang golongan B dan C menjadi briket arang. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkan bahwa telah terjadi peningkatan softskill SDM  pengrajin  sebesar lebih dari 80 % dan peningkatan nilai ekonomis dari pembuatan beriket arang sebesar 200 %. Kata kunci: briket; arang kayu; pelatihan; penyuluhan. ABSTRACTIn Gunung Giri Hamlet, which is located in Wonosari Village, Grujugan District, Bondowoso Regency, there are a number of SMEs producing wood charcoal. Wood charcoal is usually classified into three A, B and C. The price of wood charcoal for class A is Rp. 2,700 per kg, group B is Rp. 500 per kg, while for group C it is usually discarded. Actually, the products of group B and C charcoal can be further processed into briquettes so that they have a higher economic value. The Community Service Program (PKM) was carried out using counseling and training methods for approximately 15 partners who were charcoal craftsmen who at the end of the program were evaluated in the form of questionnaires and ongoing consultations for the development of wood charcoal products, namely turning class B and C charcoal into charcoal briquettes. The results of the community service activities show that there has been an increase in the soft skills of craftsmen's human resources by more than 80% and an increase in the economic value of making charcoal beriket by 200%. Keywords: briquettes; wood charcoal; training; counseling.

Abstract

Science and technology are currently developing in all fields, such as vehicle construction, building construction, industry, and materials engineering. Especially in the field of material engineering used for the manufacture of composite materials. Currently the transition of materials from metal to composites is also in great demand in various fields including in the automotive, transportation, shipping, aerospace, health, and various other fields. In the components of a vehicle, the components that have the most potential to be reduced are the main structural components, namely the floor, body, and ribs. Efforts to reduce the weight of the material in these components are carried out to reduce the amount of fuel consumption, so the ratio of strength and density of a material is one of the important properties that needs to be considered. This study used the hand lay up method with a comparison of volume fraction variations of 15%: 85% and 20%: 80%. With the aim of adding volume fractions with optimal combinations, it is hoped that the tensile strength will get better. The highest average tensile strength is with a volume fraction ratio of 15%: 85% of 19.04 MPa. While the lowest average tensile strength is with a volume fraction ratio of 20%: 80% of 17.78 MPa. It can be concluded that with increasing fiber volume fraction, the tensile strength decreases. This happens because there are several defects in the form of holes and voids which indicate poor bonding between the fibers and the matrix.
