Abstract

ABSTRACTBloodstain were could be found on a lot of form of violence. Bloodstain atthe crime scene often cleaned by the offender to cover the crime. One of thecleaning agents that might be used by the offender is liquid detergent. Thebloodstain that has been contaminated by liquid detergent could give a differentrepresentation on the forensic bloodstain examination. This study was conductedto determine the formation of hemoglobin crystal on contaminated bloodstain bysome liquid detergents using Teichmann and Takayama test. Each driedbloodstains over the slides were flowed by liquid detergent solutions, thenexamined if the hemoglobin cystal were formed or not. In this study, there were atotal of 28 slides were studied and obtained positive results in all slides (100%)through Teichmann or Takayama test. The results of this study showed thathemoglobin crystals can still be found in the bloodstain that had beencontaminated by liquid detergent through Teichmann and Takayama test. Therefore, the conclusion of this study is liquid detergents that used can not affectthe formation of hemoglobin crystal using Teichmann and Takayama tests..Kata kunci: bloodstain, hemoglobin crystal, liquid detergent, Teichmann,Takayama

Abstract

Nutrition-aware families (Kadarzi) are a government effort to reduce morbidity or mortality. One of the efforts of Kadarzi behavior is to routinely weigh children under five years (toddler) to determine their nutritional status, which is one indicator of Kadarzi behavior. This study aims to see the relationship Kadarzi behavior and the nutritional status of toddlers in Kampung Pelita Medika (KPM) FK UNRI. This study uses an analytical approach with a cross-sectional design conducted from June to November 2021. The results of this study showed that was a relationship between Kadarzi behavior and the nutritional status of toddlers based on the Weight/Age, Length (Height)/Age, and Weight/Height indices, where each p value =1.000; p = 0.001; and p = 0.000 with Prevalence Ratio (PR) value = 1.02 (0.98-1.06); PR = 10.68 (2.16-52.93); and PR=7.68 (2.39-21.53) which means that dietary behavior is a risk factor related to the nutritional status of toddlers.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, and studies have shown that genetic variants play a significant role in its development. A variety of germline and somatic mutations are associated with cervical cancer. However, genomic data derived from these mutations have not been extensively utilized for the development of repurposed drugs for cervical cancer. The objective of this study was to identify novel potential drugs that could be repurposed for cervical cancer treatment through a bioinformatics approach. A comprehensive genomic and bioinformatics database integration strategy was employed to identify potential drug target genes for cervical cancer. Using the GWAS and PheWAS databases, a total of 232 genes associated with cervical cancer were identified. These pharmacological target genes were further refined by applying a biological threshold of six functional annotations. The drug target genes were then cross-referenced with cancer treatment candidates using the DrugBank database. Among the identified genes, LTA, TNFRSF1A, PRKCZ, PDE4B, and PARP were highlighted as promising targets for repurposed drugs. Notably, these five target genes overlapped with 12 drugs that could potentially be repurposed for cervical cancer treatment. Among these, talazoparib, a potent PARP inhibitor, emerged as a particularly promising candidate. Talazoparib is currently being investigated for safety and tolerability in other cancers but has not yet been studied in the context of cervical cancer. Further clinical trials are necessary to validate this finding and explore its potential as a repurposed drug for cervical cancer.

Abstract

Abstract

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have gained significant interest for their potential application in repairing damaged tissues through immunomodulatory functions. Vitamin D has been shown to regulate both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Active forms of Vitamin D, such as 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) are known to influence the action of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in several mechanisms, such as stimulating their proliferation and osteogenic differentiation, as well as tissue regeneration. This study aimed to investigate the effects of vitamin D supplementation on the biological properties and expression of cytokines and growth factor genes in MSCs isolated from the human umbilical cord (UC). MSCs were isolated from Wharton’s jelly (WJ-MSC) of UC, cultured, and supplemented with various concentrations of vitamin D3. The Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to measure cell viability, and a scratch wound healing assay was conducted to evaluate the migration capacity of MSCs. The mRNA expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interleukin (IL)-6 were quantified using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). This study showed that supplementation with 50 nM of vitamin D3 for 48 h significantly increased the viability and migratory capacity of MSCs. Furthermore, vitamin D supplementation significantly decreased the mRNA levels of TNF-α and VEGF but did not affect IL-6 gene expression compared to the control group. These findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation can enhance the biological characteristics and modulate the expression of key immunomodulatory factors in MSCs, potentially improving the effectiveness of MSC-based therapies.
