Abstract

Based on the informal survey, learning algorithm time complexity in a theoretical manner can be rather difficult to understand. Therefore, this research proposed Complexitor, an educational tool for learning algorithm time complexity in a practical manner. Students could learn how to determine algorithm time complexity through the actual execution of algorithm implementation. They were only required to provide algorithm implementation (i.e. source code written on a particularprogramming language) and test cases to learn time complexity. After input was given, Complexitor generated execution sequence based on test cases and determine its time complexity through Pearson correlation. An algorithm time complexity with the highest correlation value toward execution sequence was assigned as its result. Based on the evaluation, it can be concluded this mechanism is quite effective for determining time complexity as long as the distribution of given input set is balanced.

Abstract

Systematic thinking is a process of thinking that should be introduced from early age. While developing such thinking, students will learn how to solve a task by breaking it down to smaller tasks and complete them one by one. There are many activities that can support such thinking. One of them is to program visually. Visual programming is usually featured with drop-down blocks where students are only required to choose which process or logic needed than then put them in the play board. A training of such activity was done in a high school at Bandung, Indonesia with Scratch. Students were first introduced with Scratch, a software that is expected to help them think systematically. For conducting the training itself, several stages were followed. It started with introduction, and then followed by lecture and case-based practice. To engage students with the practice, the case study is COVID-19 where students are expected to deliver relevant information creatively, such as developing a game of social distancing, spray vs virus, etc. Evaluation shows that via this training, students were able to further develop their own systematic thinking via the creation of Scratch projects. Further, they believed that this training is interesting and can help them to study in the high school.

Abstract

Based on the fact that the impact of educational tools can only be accurately measured through student-centered evaluation, this paper proposes a long-term in-class evaluation for Python Tutor, a program visualization tool developed by Guo. The evaluation involves 53 students from 4 Basic Data Structure classes, which were held in the even semester of 2016/2017 academic year. It is conducted based on questionnaire survey asked to the students after they have used Python Tutor in their half of programming laboratory sessions. In general, there are three findings from this work. Firstly, Python Tutor helps students to complete programming laboratory tasks, specifically for Basic Data Structure material. Secondly, Python Tutor helps students to understand general programming aspects which are execution flow, variable content change, method invocation sequence, object reference, syntax error, and logic error. Finally, based on student perspectives, Python Tutor is a helpful tool positively affecting the students.

Abstract

Abstract

Several debates were held among presidential and vice presidential candidates to convey their ideas for the 2024 presidential general election (PEMILU). This research analyzes the topics discussed in the debates using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), K-means Clustering, and word tagging methods for each candidate pair. The K-Means Clustering method yielded more diverse and evenly distributed topics for each candidate pair, while LDA produced fewer topics but was more effective in identifying topics for candidate A. The K- Means Clustering method yielded more diverse and evenly distributed topics for each candidate pair, while LDA produced fewer topics but was more effective in identifying topics for candidate. These are somewhat consistent with previos works. A. In dataset 1 using the LDA model, candidate pairs A have a probability of 60%, B have a probability of 25%, and C have a probability of 0%. In dataset 2 using the K-Means model, candidate pairs A have a probability of 37.04%, B have a probability of 25%, and C have a probability of 17.24%. In dataset 2 using the LDA model, candidate pairs A have a probability of 100%, B have a probability of 40%, and C have a probability of 0%. In dataset 2 using the K-Means model, candidate pairs A have a probability of 35.71%, B have a probability of 14.29%, and C have a probability of 28.57%.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the comparison of student acceptance levels of the Learning Management System (LMS) which are Moodle and Google Classroom using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in the West Java region, Indonesia. The results of this study show that there is a difference in the level of acceptance of the two LMSs but the difference is not very significant.  Moodle appears to be slightly more effective in increasing student productivity and is more commonly used in West Java due to the sample of respondents who are mostly from the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) at Maranatha Christian University. FIT students have largely adopted the Moodle LMS implemented into the Morning Platform (Maranatha Online Learning). With more complex features, Moodle meets the needs of more experienced users. On the other hand, Google Classroom is considered easier to use, especially for students who are new to the LMS. However, over a longer period of time, Moodle maintained a slight edge in terms of usability and user satisfaction. This research makes an important contribution in understanding the preferences and needs of university students in terms of LMS usage, especially in the West Java region.
