Abstract

Communication is an essential thing in every situation and condition. A good communication is also needed in prostitution business. Bali is one of the most tourist destination in the world, that makes Bali’s economical growth is good enough. In another words many places in Bali is also become a place for prostitution practice. One of them is in Bung Tomo area, Desa Pemecutan Kaja, Denpasar Utara. A prostitution practice was held in Banjar Kusuma Jati, Bung Tomo the prostitution place would be camouflage as a coffee shop, or a food stall, and that’s all is different with another prostitution places. Behind the sex transaction, there were some interesting things like the technical that was used by the prostitutes to hire the costumers, they used the verbal and also non-verbal codes. In one food stall there were some sellers who would receive some codes from the costumers. Another special thing from this prostitution practice was the communication pattern which was used by the prostitutes to get their costumer. They used some codes were aimed to make the lobbying and negotiation between the prostitutes and the costumer will be not vulgar. Key Words: Communication pattern, codes, prostitutes, prostitution.

Abstract

Become one of the recognized ethnic, even its position is listed in Pasal 2 UU Nomor 12 Tahun 2012 on the citizenship of the Indonesian Republic, do not make Chinese etnic get an equal treatment in the community. At least that is what Ernest Prakasa is trying to tell in the Ngenest film. In this film, Ernest as the director who also as the main character tries to describe how Chinese ethnic as a minority in the Indonesian society with all kinds of problems and impact that must be accepted. The purpose of this research is to find out the representation of Chinese ethnic in Indonesia in the film. Using qualitative descriptive approach as well as Roland Barthes semiotics analysis method. The result of this study indicate, there are particular treatments that must be accepted by Ernest because of his different cultural backgrounds and the labeling of ethnic Chinese from the community. Abstract

Benoa Bay Reclamation was emerging the pros and cons in the middle of Balinese life that bring out an action called Reclamation Refusal. It was a real form of society refusal to the huge project development that will be declared. Bog-Bog as one of the mass media in the form of caricature magazine; represented the phenomenon which already happened on its April 2016 edition. The purpose of this study is to determine the representation of the Benoa Bay Reclamation Refusal in caricature cover of Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon magazine on April 2016 edition. To achieve the aims, the research was conducted using semiotic analysis method proposed by Charles Sanders Peirce by qualitative research and constructivist paradigm. The result of this study was Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon magazine represented the reclamation refusal movement that based on Bali local genius concept called “Tri Hita Karana”. Parhyangan contained in caricatures of Balinese Women, Legong Dancers, pecalang caricature, Baris Dancers, and flute Players. Meanwhile, the Pawongan value was described on Made Bogler caricature and Traders caricature. Further, the Palemahan contained in, Excavator, water, Soil, Surfing Players, Sea Fish, , pigs and dogs caricature. Hence, Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon magazine demonstrates the caricature function as a medium of social criticism of ongoing government policy 51 since 2014 and Balinese people apprehension on the reclamation issues in Bali. Abstract

ABSTRACT The issue of migrants is an annual phenomenon which has always been a topic of the news after the Eid. Migrants can be a problem for a region with a high population density such as Bali. These problems can escalate into conflict due to public opinion about migrants. As the largest print media in Bali, Bali Post has a major role in the formation of stereotypes of migrants in Bali. The purpose of this study was to determine the stereotype of migrants formed by the Bali Post. This qualitative study using the constructivist paradigm. The analysis technique used is framing analysis with Pan and Kosicki model. The results showed that the stereotypes of migrants in the Bali Post news tend to be negative, such as slum life, do not obey the administration and tend to work in informal sectors Keywords:framing analysis, Bali Post, migrants, stereotypes

Abstract

ABSTRACT Non-verbal communication such as sign language became the focus in this research, how the deaf can deliver the messages by body language and expression that used in sign language. The purpose of..this research is to know about the communication strategy that used by Bali Deaf Community in socialize BISINDO (Indonesian sign languages) to the public. Data collection is done by participant observation method, interview and documentation study. The type of this research is qualitative research with post-positivist paradigm. The analysis technic that is used in this research is Milles and Huberman analysis and used purposive sampling technic to determine the informant. The result of this research..showed that there are the effective communication strategy in socialize BISINDO (Indonesian sign languages) to the public, those are (1) determine the communicator who is competent to deliver the messages, (2) set the socialization targets, (3) Arrange the message that will delivered to the public by providing sign language module, (4) and social media usage in socialize BISINDO (Indonesian sign language). Abstract

ABSTRAK The development of communication media these days leads to new challenges among media institutions. Writer interested in knowing the Strategy of BaleBengong on forming its image as a citizen journalism media through social media Twitter and Blog. Writer using descriptive qualitative method with snowball sampling to do this research. Through its social media account, BaleBengong invites people to share informations openly without any strict rules, but still with full responsibility. Balebengong’s communication strategy to form its image as citizen journalism media is poured verbally and non-verbally. Before the communication strategy is formed, Balebengong with the help of Sloka Institute, did a research about Balinese people’s habit on social media. Based on that research, BaleBengong then form its communication strategy, especially for through social media. Verbal communication strategy by BaleBengong showed on their tweets and blog article. BaleBengong name and logo was taken from a Balinese traditional building where people can speak their mind and share informations without any strict social barrier. Abstract

ABSTRACT The soap opera of “Siapa Takut Jatuh Cinta” which has aired on SCTV tv station successfully captivated the audience with a high rating on the first episode. This soap opera has violated the prevailing norms in Indonesia for several times. However, the rating still stays in the top position. In this research, the author wants to know how is the motive and the satisfaction of people who live in Denpasar City about the soap opera “Siapa Takut Jatuh Cinta”. The author use the theory of Uses and Gratifications to see what the audience want to the media. This research is conducted by measuring the motives and satisfaction of 348 respondents in Denpasar City aged 16-34 years using 4 indicators of Uses and Gratifications theory by Greenberg and Woods (1999), these are escape, social learning, social excitement, and habit. This research use descriptive quantitative methods. The sampling technique in this study is purposive sampling. The data in this research is obtained by spreading questionnaires using a Likert scale. The data analysis technique using at the average score of motive and satisfaction. The results showed that respondents aged 16-34 years in Denpasar do not get satisfaction after watching the soap opera. That thing is happened due to respondents watching the soap opera of “Siapa Takut Jatuh Cinta” only to seek entertainment and fill their spare time. If it viewed from the indicators in every aspect of the motives, there are several indicators of motives that are satisfied, such as indicators of avoiding family problems, indicators of having a friend, indicators of eliminating boredom in spare time and other indicators. Abstract

ABSTRACT Dance costume is a form of non-verbal communication in which there are symbols that have meaning in accordance with the purpose of the dance. This can be seen in one of the dance costumes in Bali, namely Jauk Manis Dance. In Jauk Manis Dance costume, there is a conclusion that there is non-verbal communication with the contents of cultural values ??conveyed through the symbols attached to it. This study aims to determine the meaning of communication contained in Jauk Manis Dance costume. Texts and costume symbols of Jauk Manis Dance were chosen as research objects because the symbols in Jauk Manis Dance costume contained meanings and values ??related to Balinese culture and beliefs. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and uses Roland Barthes Semiotics Theory. The results show that there are meanings and values ??behind the symbols attached to Jauk Manis Dance costume such as: cultural values, religious values ??and artistic values. Cultural value in which costume describes a particular group of people. Religious value in the choice of colors is a symbol of the strength of the Gods in the belief of Hinduism. Abstract

ABSTRACT   Traditional ceremonies Keboan is one of the traditional ceremonies conducted by the community tribe Osing, precisely in the village of Aliyan, District Rogojampi, Banyuwangi. Traditional ceremonies Keboan which is very closely linked to agriculture. Ceremonies Keboan is usually carried out once a year on the Month Suro (According to the Javanese calendar). This study aims to determine the meaning of the symbols communication contained in the overall ceremonies Keboan. This type of research is descriptive qualitative method, with the theory semiotic and interactionism symbolic, where researchers will provide an overview of the procession and the symbolic meaning of the message contained in the traditional ceremonies Keboan. The data is obtained by interview, direct observation and documentation study. The technique of analyzing the data that used in this research through several steps that was data reduction, data presentation and conclution. Based on the results of research in traditional ceremonies Keboan, each of the stages in this event contains many symbols of communication. In the research the symbols in this event is more prevalent in tribute provided, including there is a beras kuning, tumpeng panca warna, kinangan, kembang setaman, peras, miniature hewan-hewan sawah, and dawet. Meaning of tributes are largely represented a hope society Aliyan to God. The conclusion of this research is ceremonies Keboan is one of the legacy ancestral cultural which until now still be preserved. The traditional ceremony Keboan still kept until today is none other than as a form of reverence to ancestral Aliyan village, and as a form of preservation of culture who want to keep running. Abstract

Lifestyle becomes an inseperable part from the dynamic world of teenagers. This teenager’s lifestyle representation can be seen on a video blog (vlog) that can be uploaded on social media, such as Youtube. On the vlog belonging to Karin Novilda or better known as Awkarintitled Tahun Baruan di Bali Bersama Anya Geraldine (Veri Veri Explicit) was watched for 3.1 million times. The purpose of this research is to find out the representation of teenager’s lifestyle on Karin Novilda’s video blog titled Tahun Baruan di Bali Bersama Anya Geraldine (Veri Veri Explicit). The type of this research is qualitative research with contructivist paradigm. This research used Charles Sanders Peirce semiotic analysis method. The result of this research shows that there are four type of teenager’s life style representation on this vlog, these are representation of middle-high lifestyle, hedonism, and western cultural lifestyle.
