Abstract

The concept of gender is a trait that is formed and given by society to men and women, which is the result of socialization and the prevailing culture in that society. In the heteronormative view, we are bound by preconceived masculine and feminine discourses in society. This study describes the problem of how feminity is represented through the character Juno in the film Memories of My Body through a qualitative approach. The result of this study are in the form of several categories of representations of feminity according to Simone De Beauvoir on Juno’s character, besides that, it can be found messages in the film Memories of My Body which show that men with feminine characters do not always contrast with negative impressions, sometimes feminine traits in themselves men also provide comfort for others. Abstract

Belief in the power of a mass media to convey something quickly and massive has been growing since ancient times. Song is one of mass media that use to deliver messages and also can use as to representing social phenomenon. Representation is a description or a sign of meaning in a message. By using song as a media, messages will be conveyed more easily. Like the moral values that contained in Gending Joged Nini. This song describes the fundamental moral values ??that we should have in life. The purpose of this study is to determine the representation of the moral values with the theory of Ferdinand De Saussure. This theory has principle that language is a sign system and devided in two parts, signifier and signified. Abstract

The emergence of TikTok around 2020 in Indonesia has been growing rapidly and popularly, thus Indonesia well known as the world’s fourth largest TikTok user country. This can be considered to run an online campaign #EndToxicMasculinity on media social TikTok which is also to used to get attention from TikTok usersThis research analysed by using Stuart Hall’s Encoding-Decoding with descriptive-qualitative method through depth interview techniques with four informants who are currently an active TikTok users. The acceptance of four informants shows that they have different thoughts and meaning regarding to #EndToxicMasculinity campaign. The difference based by differences from background, knowledge, experience and circle. Audience positions are divided into three audience reading positions such as any other positions. Result of this research showed that audience’s interpretation of #EndToxicMasculinity campaign based on four informants was dominated by Dominant position. Abstract

The ability of video clips to represent various kinds of social phenomena is used to create works to influence people's views, one of which is the issue of feminism. Ariana Grande released the music video for her song “God is a woman”, which includes a depiction of feminism. The purpose of this research is to see the representation of feminism in the video clip. This qualitative descriptive study examines data using the concept of video clips as a medium of mass communication, feminism issues, Stuart Hall's representation theory, and Roland Barthes' Semiotics theory. The results showed that the video clip of the song “God is a woman” represents postmodern feminism which is shown by the female character described by Ariana Grande who has freedom like men without trying to dissolve gender differences, who can express herself, who dares to fight patriarchy, and has power over her own body. Abstract

Kimi Hime is one of the YouTubers who is currently attracting public attention with sexy images game content. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method that aims to find out the motives and satisfied of young people in Denpasar to watch Kimi Hime's YouTube Channel. The data collection technique was done by usingva questionnaire. The results showed that there are three motives that can be satisfied, that is the motive for information, the motive for integrity and social interaction, and the motive for entertainment. Abstract

Advertising has an important role in a company as know as implementing various communications functions. Advertising can cause changes in the constructions of thoughts about gender stereotypes, stereotype about masculinity. This is determine the constructions of the man image that is formed in the Daihatsu Ayla advertisement version of ‘Habis PD Terbitlah Asik”. Which has a durations of 1 minute 25 seconds. Data are obtained through observation and documentations. In this study was using semiotics. The analysis show that the expression intended to be a representation of the male image is self-confidence, monologue of the male main character. On the other hand, this advertisement also illustrates that having a Daihatsu Ayla car does not necessarily change a man to follow the standards of masculinity that exist in society, however, a Daihatsu Ayla car can increase self-confidence by staying true to yourself.

Abstract

Video marketing is one of the most used types of advertising today. Kakao Webtoon is a digital comic platform that often releases unique and creative advertisements for their products in the form of video marketing. The teaser webcomic The Villainess Is A Marrionette is one of Kakao Webtoon's video marketing advertisements that has managed to attract attention because it is the first visual dramatization advertisement that was worked on for a webtoon advertisement, and involves famous South Korean actors/actresses such as Cha Eun Woo, Han Soo Hee and Lee So Hyuk. This study uses Stimulus Organism Response (SOR) theory with a quantitative approach and associative problem formulation. The purpose of this research is to determine the impact of exposure to the teaser webcomic The Villainess Is A Marrionette on Kakao Webtoon's brand awareness for teenagers in Denpasar City. The conclusions of the analysis indicate that the teaser webcomic The Villainess Is Marrioentte has formed a brand awareness of teenagers in Denpasar City towards Kakao Webtoon.

Abstract

As one of the mass communication media, film acts as a medium for delivering messages to audiences through audio and visual. “De Oost/The East” is a film that depicts violence during the Indonesian war of independence. This study aims to see the representation of human rights violations in the film "De Oost/The East". The researcher uses a qualitative approach and examines data with the concept of human rights issues and human rights violations, Hall's Representation Theory and Peirce's Triangle of Meaning Theory. The results showed that the film "De Oost/The East" represented gross human rights violations in the form of: (1) Torture, (2) Murder, (3) Extermination. Various forms of human rights violations in the film in accordance with the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court Article 7 is a form of gross human rights violations, namely crimes against humanity. Abstract

Views on sex are shaped by social and political forces and are linked in important ways to those around class, race, and particularly gender. This view resides in speech acts in everyday life as well as present as discourse, which is continued, treated, and challenged through communication, one of which is through the medium of video games. In this study, the researcher uses van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model to understand the discourse of sexuality in the game "Coming Out Simulator 2014." The researcher then found that the general discourse raised in this game was “Oppression/marginalization of queer groups.”

Abstract

The role of women on equality and gender relations is often raised as an object in the mass media, including the song lyrics. The description in the story are still in the subordinations and often creates stereotypes in the society. If this is not criticized it will be considered as natural and reasonable. In the future it can create a structure and system of gender injustice that is accepted and normalized as if nothing is wrong. The theme song of Bu Darmi is about women, especially Balinese women. This song tells about the life of the character bu Darmi, a Balinese woman who lives in an environment with thick culture and patriarchal system. In this song, Balinese women are described through two sides, there are in the private and public spheres. This study aims to explain the hidden meaning behind the song lyrics of Bu Darmi by Nosstress that have a corelations into the representation of women. This research using a qualitative approach with a Roland Barthes’s semiotic theory and representation theory from Stuart Hall, The results of this research signifies that Bu Darmi’s song describes the reality of the problems experienced by Balinese people related to patriarchal culture, women and the political ecology that occurs in Bali. Women conduct multidimensional and multigender plays as a women, labour, social society as well as arrange of several religious rituals.
