Abstract

Representation is a picture or sign of a meaning in a message. Music is a medium that can deliver messages to audiences on a large scale, Like the message about world peace contained in John Lennon's song Imagine, this research aims to analyze how the representation of world peace is contained in John Lennon's song Imagine. This research method uses qualitative research, qualitative research aims to explain phenomena in depth by collecting data and this research also uses a constructivist paradigm. The theory in this study uses Ferdinand De Saussure's theory where this theory has the principle that language is a sign system, and each sign is composed of two parts, namely the signifier and the signified. The results of this study indicate that in the song Imagine describes the causes of conflict that keep the world away from peace. Abstract

ABSTRACT "A Man Called Ahok" is a national biopic film that in its release, this film raises opinions of many people related to its emergence of the political contestation season and of Ahok’s controversial figure. Ahok is assumed to have a mission to win the sympathy of the people, with a narrative of Ahok's life values ??during Bangka Belitung. The purpose of this study is to explain the relationship between exposure of the film "A Man Called Ahok" with the image of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in society. The study uses explanation quantitative research methods with the theory of media exposure, image, and media dependencies. The results indicate that there is a relationship between the exposure of the film "A Man Called Ahok" with the image of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in the community. Abstract

ABSTRACT Racism is a belief that considers one racial group to be superior to other racial groups. The issue of racism can be presented through films, as in the short film Skin. The short film Skin depicts a white group who assault a black man at a convenience store. The purpose of this study is to find out how racism is represented in the short film Skin. This study uses a qualitative approach and analyzed using the semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes which consists of denotations, connotations and myths. The results of this study indicate that the short film Skin represents racism in the form of prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination. Black people receive prejudice as a threat and a criminal, dangerous stereotypes, discrimination in the form of ridicule, use of the terms negro and jigaboo, and assaults against blacks. Abstract

Film is one of the massiimedia which is used to entertain, provide information, and other technical presentations to the generaliipublic. Film can represent and construct social realities that occur in society by using signs to describe something. ProjectiiS The Series: SideiibyiiSide is a film in the form of a series that raises the genre about autism. This research uses descriptive qualitative research by means of CharlesiiSandersiiPeirce'siisemiotic. The resultsiiofiithis studyiiindicate that this series has the ability to construct reality and describe the realities that occur in society, in this case people with autism. Therefore, in addition to being a reflection of society, this series also shows the other side of the reality of autism, where it not only has obstacles due to autism, but also has advantages that are expected to provide a new perspective on people with autism. Abstract

Information regarding the implementation of the New Normal Era during the Covid-19 pandemic announced by President Joko Widodo has brought pros and cons. Tempo newspaper as a mass media raised the issue in the form of a caricature illustration on the front cover of Tempo newspaper on 27 May 2020. The purpose of this study is to explain the representation of the implementation of the New Normal Era in Tempo newspaper on 27 May 2020. This research was conducted using the method interviews and semiotic analysis proposed by Charles Sanders Pierce with qualitative research types and constructivist paradigms. The results of this study, Koran Tempo represents the application of the New Normal Era in the caricature illustration of the competition arena. there is a meaning contained in each caricature illustration, based on this Tempo has displayed the function of caricatures as a medium for delivering messages. Abstract

Seniman Coffee Studio is a coffee shop located at Jalan Sriwedari no. 5 Ubud Gianyar and has evolved coffee from 1st wave to the 4th wave that is currently happening in coffee-producing countries, one of which is Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to determine the integrated marketing strategy used by Seniman Coffee Studio to introduce the 4th wave concept. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a post-positivism paradigm. This study used purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques to determining the informants Data obtained by interview, non-participant observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate the integrated marketing communication strategy (IMC) conducted by Seniman Coffee Studio in introducing the 4th wave concept by implementing a marketing mix with 4 elements, namely: product, place, price and promotion consisting of 8 elements (promotion mix) such as advertising, sales promotion, personal selling, direct marketing, public relations, and interactive marketing. Abstract

Advertising has a great influence on the subconscious of the audience. Among the advertisements in the mass media, many advertisements related to male products are the accelerators that support male stereotypes of masculinity. Gillete’s advertisement is contrast to advertisements for male products which generally show toughness and bravery as elements of masculinity. The research aims to explain how the Discourse of Male Stereotype Masculinity in Gillete advertisement version We Believe: The Best Men Can Be uses a qualitative approach and is analyzed using Roland Barthes' Semiotic theory which consists of denotation, connotation and myth. The results showed that the advertisement contain a counter-discourse of male masculinity, in which Gillete presents the antithesis of masculinity in advertisements for male products in general. Like, men cry and express feelings, men are not interested in jokes related to sexual harassment and men can show their strength with attention rather than just physical use. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the difference of framing made by Republika.co.id and Kompas.com. In this case about the draf law on eliminition of sexual violance. The researcher used Robert N Entman, and Gamson and Modigliani framing anylisis method. The researcher collecting data with relevant documents and obtain news from Republika.co.id and Kompas.com website. The results showed that both of the media found this issue important based from the selection of issues and assertion aspects. Both of the media keep include the problem solving and the reason why the ministry removed RUU PKS from Prolegnas Prioritas 2020. They also include related sources on the headlines that containing criticism and responses. Both media tell stories from both side, even though it is not directly reported in one news. Based on Gimson and Modigliani theory, republika.co.id seems to tend to use harsher word in the title compare to kompas.com. Abstract

Songs are universal media that effectively convey messages to a wide audience. “Dokdoneun Urittang” or Dokdo is our land is one of the South Korean songs which is not only entertaining but contains a message of nationalism in it. This research is descriptive-qualitative with the semiotic approach of Ferdinand de Saussure. This study aims to explain the representation of nationalism contained in the “Dokdoneun Urittang”. The results of this study indicate that the nationalism seen in the song is nationalism which has general principles of unity, liberty and identity. Keywords: Representation, nationalism, South Korea

Abstract

Costumes, properties, and dance styles are so-called forms of non-verbal communication that contain meaningful symbol in each aspect. This subject can be seen from a traditional dance in Bali, Barong Brutuk Dance This research itself is aimed to comprehend the communication symbol that the dance holds. Barong Brutuk dance is chosen as the main subject of this study due to its peculiar meaning as well as values that Balinese from Trunyan. This research is condoned with the descriptive qualitative method that relies on Roland Barthes’s Semiotic theory. The result of this study that non-verbal communication is carried out throughout each move, costume, and property used in this dance. This dance manifests deeper meaning, some believe that it brings prosperity to the people of Desa Trunyan. From the costumes being worn by the elected carrier or the dancer, they deliver simplicity, and the properties shown displays a symbol of neutralized negativity Keywords : The Meaning of communication symbol, Semiotic, Barong Brutuk Dance.
