Abstract

Indonesia has various ethnic societies that have been migrated from their origin places and settled in other regions. It also occurs where Sorkam community, a coastal ethnic communities originalle placed in Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, have moved and settled in Bumi Yapemas Indah Housing, South Tambun, Bekasi Regency. This article discusses how specific ethnic communities lives in a modern gated-community in everyday life. It examines how communities using space in everyday lives and and their cultural forms is maintained in translocal living spaces. By Lefebvre’s rhythmanalysis approach, research is conducted with interviews with community leaders and a sample of residents, and also field observation. It is found that the traditional culture of the Sorkam people did not have a direct effect on the architecture and use of space, but the similarity in the culture of the community encouraged the interaction between the rhythms of people's lives. Cultural similarity encourages interaction between the rhythms of people's lives so that the phenomenon of space use is reinforced according to the Eurhythmia concept. The phenomena of using the space include: 1) the emergence of a sense of security and comfort in using spaces 2) utilization of indoor and outdoor spaces as a social space, and 3) adjustment of space according to the culture of the local community. It is hope this article will contribute to the studies of social production of space by specific community.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT As one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, Palembang has a history related to the Musi river. The Musi River divides the city of Palembang into Ilir and Ulu. This river was known as a trade route in ancient times, so that many Chinese and Arab immigrants settled on the riverbank. In the Ulu, there are several village areas that are mostly inhabited by Arab residents, one of which is Assegaf Village. This study will specifically discuss the Assegaf village, especially its famous icon, the Alwi Assegaf ice factory. This factory is an integral part of the life chain of the Musi river. Many traditional fishermen rely on the ice factory and it is clear that the Alwi Assegaf ice factory has an impact and influence on residents. The purpose of this research is to explore further history, cultural ideas and actors who play a role in the Alwi Assegaf ice factory. It also aims to reveal the identity of the ice factory itself against the socio-economic conditions in Assegaf Village residents. The research method was carried out qualitatively in the form of interview, field observation and literature reviews. The elements discussed will use the ANT (Actor-Network Theory) method to obtain a mapping description of the actors involved in the daily production of the Alwi Assegaf ice factory. The contribution of this study can be used as a review of further research literature that focuses on actor-network theory analysis. Rumah Gadang which is located in Kampung Adat Balai Kaliki, Payakumbuh City West Sumatera has a level of change in minor and major. That matter could happen because of differences in the network of actor relations in each building. The factor of actor relations has an impact to change the preservation of traditional buildings, thus providing a new perspective on the preservation of traditional buildings. Therefore, this research aims to observe the changes that occur in the Rumah Gadang located in Kampung Adat Balai Kaliki through actor network’s perspective. Completion of this research using a qualitative methodology with Actor Network Theory (ANT) method by examining changes that occur in Rumah Gadang holistically, which is through a study the relations between the actors involved in that building to discorver the factors that cause the changes. This research find that the relation of actors involved in each Rumah Gadang determines the quantity of building changes. The result is charted using sosiotechnogram to know the strong actors in actor relations from each Rumah Gadang. Therefore, this research could be the basis for appropriate practices of preserving Rumah Gadang traditional building.

Abstract

Every process and stage in phase of constructing of Indonesia’s vernacular architecture is required the role and contribution of individual or several actors so that procession of house construction can be built due to purposes. According to traditions and beliefs of the Bugis community, there are several actors who have different roles and responsibilities during the process of establishing a Buginese-house. This research aims to explore the influence of the actors’ role who are involved in the process of constructing a traditional Bugis house. Correlation and impact of one actor's involvement with other actors will be reviewed based on the perspective of the Actor Network Theory (ANT) by using descriptive qualitative method.  The results revealed that there are 4 stages in the process of building Buginese-house namely the process of constructing a house frame (Mattibang Bola), the process of marking the center of the house (possi bola), the ritual of reading thanksgiving prayer (barzanji), and the process of establishing a house frame (Mappatettong Bola). Founded, Sanro Bola and Panre Bola, namely traditional leaders who have a mandate in the tradition of building houses, are actors who act as controlling actors and are very influential in maintaining the stability of a network in the process of building Buginese-house. Learning from the tradition of building a Buginese-house, the existence of traditional leaders is important, because it has a tradition-based on knowledge base, and this has become a mandate in regulating other actors in working.
