Abstract

The aim of this study to determine interaction between Direct-Fed Microbials (DFM) and Hibiscus leaf meal (HLM) supplementation on local sheep performance and consumption rate of concentrate. Thirty-six males local sheeps aged ± 2 years (28.01 ± 2.61 kg) were fed ammoniated rice-straw supplemented with DFM and concentrate supplemented with HML assigned randomly to nine treatment in an experiment of 3x3 factorial design. The first factor was the use of DFM (P0 = control, P1 = DFMAMS, P2 = DFMRJ) and the second factor was level of HLM (W0 = 0%, W1 = 0.24% and W2 = 0.48% DM concentrate). Concetrate consumption DMI of each sheep was 3% of body weight and ad-libitum JPA. Measured variables were final weight, average daily gain (ADG), feed consumption (FC), fed conversion rasio (FCR) and consumption rate (CR). There was significant interaction (P<0.05) between DFM and HML supplementation on the final weight, FC and CR (P<0.01), while ADG and FCR were not significant- ly interact. DFM supplementation significantly affected (P <0.05) on FCR. The most efficient feed conversion achie- ved in P2 (W0 =8.22 ± 1.19, W1=7.15 ± 0.85 and W2=6, 81 ± 1, 68). There was no interaction on ADG, however ADG tended to increase in W2. The Highest ADG was achieved in P2W2 (0.146 ± 0.03 Kg/day). There was positive correlation between consumption rate and ADG (P<0.01) also consumption rate and final weight (P<0.05). Coeficient correlation of consumption rate and both ADG and final weight were 0, 481 and 0.514, respectively. The use of DFM and HML, especially DFMRJ and level of HLM was 0.48% (P2W2) were able to improve local sheep performance.

Abstract

The leaves of Hibiscus tiliaceus, known for their flavonoid and fumaric acid contents, may support more stable rumen fermentation by promoting propionic acid production and helping maintain a healthy pH in high-concentrate diets. When paired with ammoniated rice straw, this supplement could improve how cattle utilize nutrients while lowering the risk of subacute ruminal acidosis in feedlot settings. This study evaluates the effectiveness of H. tiliaceus leaf flour as a dietary supplement in feedlot Madura cattle. Fifteen cattle (initial weight 264.43 ± 22.68 kg) were assigned to three diet treatments: rice straw plus concentrate (RSC), ammoniated rice straw plus concentrate (ARSC), and ammoniated rice straw plus concentrate supplemented with HTLF (ARSC+H) and statistically analyzed using a completely randomized design. Concentrates were fed at 2.5% of body weight, while rice straw and ARS were provided ad libitum. Ammoniation involved treating rice straw with 5% urea and 2.5% cassava pulp. The treatments significantly (p<0.01) increased digestibility parameters (dry and organic matter digestibility (DMD, DMO), crude fat digestibility (CFD), crude protein digestibility (CPD), crude fiber digestibility (CFD), and nitrogen retention (NR)), microbial protein synthesis (MPS) and production (MPP), energy utilization (energy digestibility (ED), metabolizable energy output (MEO), energy retention (ER)), volatile fatty acid (VFA) production, average daily gain (ADG), and feed efficiency (FE). RSC showed lower values compared to ARSC and ARSC+H (p<0.01), while differences between ARSC and ARSC+H were not significant (p>0.05). The highest MPS, MPP, and ADG were observed in ARSC+H, with the best FE also in ARSC+H. In conclusion, ARSC+H enhances nutrient digestibility, MPS, and fattening performance in Madura cattle, indicating its potential as an effective feed strategy.

Abstract

High ambient temperature in tropical, especially during the daytime of Garut lamb cause highlevel of stress and low productivity. To overcome it can be  improved the management. If the feed is givenin the evening, its metabolism process will take place throughout the night with the lower temperature.This method is expected result the higher productivity include the meat quality. So the aim of thisstudy was to evaluate the influence of feeding time (morning and evening) toward the physical meatcharacteristics of Garut lamb. 12 Garut lamb were used. They were placed in 12 individual cages. Thisstudy used block randomized design. As treatment was feeding time. As feed was  a mix of field grass andconcentrates (40:60). Data of physical meat characteristics were analyzed by t-test. The physical meatcharacteristics include value of pH, the ability to water bind, cooking loss, and score of meat colour werenot significant. Garut lamb that was given feed at morning time, significant resulted the meat with moretender (1.04 kg/cm2) than the feeding time at evening (1.59 kg/cm2) (P<0.05). It can be concluded thatthe physical meat characteristics (except meat tenderness) of Garut lamb were similar in both differentfeeding time. The treatment of different feeding time can be change the behaviour of Garut lamb.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different feeding system on carcass characteristics of Javanese thin-tailed sheep. Nine sheep with average body weight 15.7+1 kg were kept in individual cage and received water ad libitum. The dietary treatments was conducted in three different ratio and periode of concentrate and forage (Brachiaria humidicola) included: 80% forage and 20% concentrate for two months (P1), 20% forage and 80% concentrate for two months (P2) and 20% forage and 80% concentrate for a month followed by 80% forage and 20% concentrate for last month. Data was analysed by analyses of variance (ANOVA). The result showed that there was no significantly effect of treatment on percentage and weight of carcass, commercial cutting of carcass and meat, fat and bone of carcass. The study implicated that sheep fatted by forage for a month of last period could be done by farmer in order to minimize cost production.

Abstract

The effects of wool shorn and diets on non carcass characteristics were evaluated using twelve Javanese fat-tailed male lambs with initial body weight of 17.40±1.10 kg (CV=6.3%). Animals were reared for three months of experimental period then were slaughtered to measure non carcass component. The first treatment was different of diets (P1= grass + concentrates and P2= grass + concentrates + soybean tofu waste) and the second treatment was wool shearing (C1= unshorn sheep and C2= shorn sheep). Data of non carcass was analyzed by Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) with slaughter weight as covariable. The result showed that treatments did not significantly influence (P>0.05) on weight and percentage of all noncarcass component.But interactions between treatment has significantly influence (P<0.01) on weight and percentage of reproduction tract. FT thatgiven by soybean tofu waste that shorn and not shorn, without given by soybean tofu waste that shorn and unshorn resulted percentage of non-carcass 53.06, 52.52, 56.98, and 57.62% of slaughter weight, respectively.

Abstract

Nitrate or nitrite that used on dendeng making as antioxidant agent and color stabilizer could forming toxic compound (nitrosamine). The Formation of nitrosamine could be inhibited by addition of natural antioxidant that contained in the fruits such as strawberry (Fragaria ananassa). The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of stawberry as curing ingredient on physical properties and antioxidant activity of dendeng. Dendeng was made by addition of spices and combination of nitrite (0 ppm and 125 ppm) and strawberry (0%, 10%, 20%,30%) addition. Sample for analysis used fried dendeng. The result showed that pH value  were  affected  by  additon  of  nitrite  and  strawberry    (P<0.01),  but  the objective color was affected by addition of nitrite only. Strawberry addition affected antioxidant activity of dendeng that was evaluated by scavenging activity on radical DPPH and antioxidant capacity (P<0.05). Interaction factor affected water activity and total phenolic content of dendeng (P<0.05). As conclusion strawberry addition up to 30% could be used as curing agent on dendeng making and increased antioxidant activity on dendeng product.

Abstract

This research was aimed to evaluate Good Farming Practice (GFP) of sheep fattening at PT TF. The breed of sheep that are fattened in this farm are thin tailed and thick tailed. The aspects that evaluated were equipments aspect, production process, environmental conservation, and surveillance. The data were corrected by observation method and interview company leaders. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis method with weighting based on importance aspect to GFP. The total GFP performance score were 81.90% indicated that the application of GFP PT TF was sufficiently good. The point of view from the aspect of production facilities and processes, PT TF has applied good GFP with the weighted value of each aspects were 82.13% and 85.25%, respectively.

Abstract

The overall transportation process is a gripping activity for goats and sheep. Goats and sheep canexperience stress as reflected by indicators of weight loss, physiological responses and blood metabolites.The use of sheep goat and sheep conveyance according to the Regulation of the Minister of Agricultureof the Republic of Indonesia number 114/Permentan/PD.410/9/2014concerning the transportation ofsacrificial animals, vehicles can be designed for a maximum of two decks. Farmers use pick-up vehiclesarranged in three levels to reduce transportation costs. This study uses two triple-deck pick-up vehiclesfor 60 goats and 60 sheep. Each deck is filled with 20 animals and five animals are taken as samples.The design used by using a randomized block design (RBD), the position of the deck (deck 1, deck 2,deck 3) as a factor, and body weight as groups. The evaluation results of goat and sheep transportationwith a distance of ± 674 km (± 16 hours of travel) shows that deck has no significant effect (P>0.05) onthe weight loss of goat and sheep also did not affect (P>0.05) on the physiological response and bloodmetabolites. The stress level of goats and sheep transported is not affected by deck position.
