Abstract

Highlights: 1. Uncertainty regarding the association between hypertension and the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) signifies the need for more research, particularly in the realm of sex-specific analysis.2. Our study uncovered significant associations between hypertension and the levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides, expanding our understanding of the impact of lipid profiles on hypertension.3. This research may potentially pave the way for personalized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, ultimately enhancing hypertension management and patient outcomes.    Abstract Hypertension is one of the most frequent non-communicable diseases and a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, contributing to most deaths globally. The risk of hypertension is higher in those with uncontrolled lipids. In this study, the incidence of hypertension and lipid profiles were examined from March 2020 to March 2022. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between hypertension in men aged 45–60 years and their lipid profiles, which include total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Medical records were utilized as secondary data. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman rank correlation test. Statistical significance was determined at p<0.05. This research examined 115 patients with hypertension. The results showed that the stage of hypertension was correlated with total cholesterol (r=0.317; p=0.001) and triglyceride levels (r=0.217; p=0.02). However, the stage of hypertension was not significantly correlated with LDL (r=0.158; p=0.91) and HDL (r=0.75; p=0.423). Hence, this current study underscores the nuanced relationship between lipid profiles and the stage of hypertension in middle-aged male patients. This study highlights the importance of sex-specific analysis in hypertensive research. It also provides promising avenues for further investigation.

Abstract

Introduction: Depression is the most common psychiatric disorder suffered by patients with chronic kidney disease who are undergoing hemodialis. Depression can lead to decreased quality of life and increase the economic burden on the health system. CBT is a validated treatment for depression, and there has been no research yet on CBT in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis in RSUD, Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. To prove the effect of CBT on the improvement of depression in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis in RSUD, Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Methods: Experimental study with use of randomized, pretest-posttest control group design. Respondents meeting the criteria were divided by random allocation, treatment by CBT for as many as 17 respondents, and even as much control as 20 respondents. The mean age of the treatment group was 37.24 and the control group was 44.45, with a range of 21–60 years old, who experienced mild and moderate depression without antidepressants. Treatment consists of 4 sessions, 45 minutes each session, once a week. Effectiveness was measured using BDI instruments. Results: There were significant differences in pre- and post-depression scores in the treatment group (p = 0.007), and there were significant differences in depression improvement between the treatment and control groups (p = 0.006). Depression improvement in the treatment group was 64.7% compared to the control group’s 25.0%. Conclusion: CBT can improve mild and moderate depression without antidepressants (NNT = 3) in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya.

Abstract

Background: Vitiligo is an idiopathic disease with a prevalence of 0.5-2% worldwide that causes the loss of melanocyte cells from parts of the body and is characterized by the appearance of well-defined white macules. The pathogenesis of vitiligo is suspected to originate from genetic, non-genetic, and autoimmune factors. Currently, Narrowband Ultraviolet-B (NB-UVB) is the first-line phototherapy treatment to treat vitiligo. Purpose: To evaluate the profile of vitiligo patients who were given phototherapy at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Clinic, Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital for the period January-December 2019. Methods: This study used a retrospective descriptive research design with descriptive statistical methods. In this study, the medical records were evaluated by recording the patient's age, gender, occupation, history of illness, family history, and results of a physical examination. Result: This study obtained 31 samples that received phototherapy dominated by the age range of 17-25 years (29%) and male gender (55%), with a ratio of 1:0.82 to women. The majority work as others (68%). The most common trigger factor was emotional stress (29%). According to physical examination, the majority of patients had multiple lesions (81%), were not widely available (58%), and were of the generalized type (52%). Conclusion: It can be evaluated from the most data obtained: 17-25 years old (29%), male gender (55%), other occupations (68%), emotional stress triggers (29%), multiple lesions (81%), unavailable lesion area (58%), and generalized type (52%), describe the profile of vitiligo patients in Dr. Seotomo General Academic Hospital in 2019.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes is the second most prevalent comorbidity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Indonesia. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients experience increased blood vessel remodeling, resulting in elevated peripheral arterial resistance. In addition to exacerbating the severity of T2DM, COVID-19 also increases hypertension risk. This study aimed to elucidate the effect of COVID-19 on hypertension prevalence among T2DM patients. Methods: This research employed an analytical observational design, specifically the case-control study design. A total of 200 datasets were extracted from medical records covering the period from May 2020 to April 2022 at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia. The inclusion criteria for the study samples were T2DM patients diagnosed by a doctor, as documented in their medical records, with no previous history of hypertension. The data were analyzed using the Chi-square test at a significance level of p<0.05 to determine the effect of COVID-19 on hypertension prevalence in T2DM patients. Results: There were 100 T2DM patients without COVID-19 (30 with hypertension and 70 without hypertension) and 100 T2DM patients with COVID-19 (45 with hypertension and 55 without hypertension). The Chi-square test indicated an effect associated with COVID-19 on hypertension prevalence in T2DM patients, with p=0.028 and an odds ratio (OR) of 1.909. Conclusion: The study suggests that COVID-19 infection increases the risk of hypertension in T2DM patients. Raising awareness of the complications of hypertension is important, particularly for high-risk individuals, such as T2DM patients who have a history of COVID-19.   Highlights: 1. There has been no research examining the relationship between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the prevalence of hypertension complications, especially in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. 2. This study highlights the importance of raising awareness regarding the finding that the incidence of COVID-19 increases the prevalence of hypertension in T2DM patients.

Abstract

Hypertension was characterized by persistently high blood pressure in the systemic arteries.  This typed of researched was descriptive retrospective with consecutive sampling used inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis used the Skewness and Kurtosis Normality Test and Chi Square Test with p<0,05.  The results of the studied showed that 42 people was found with a population percentage of 67,7% who was known to had hyperuricemia with hypertension. There was a significant relationship between the incidence of hyperuricemia and the incidence of hypertension with a valued of p=0,003 (p<0,05).  The odds ratio (OR) valued in this study was 8,17, meaning that patients with hyperuricemia had an 8,17 times greater chance of suffering from hypertension compared to patients without hyperuricemia. It was recommended that further research use case control studies or cohort studies to find out which variables are the cause and effect between hyperuricemia and hypertension.
