Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand the role of ecospirituality and environmental ethics in dealing with climate change in Indonesia. This research is conducted qualitatively and the research data is obtained through the collection of news facts, journals and previous research results which are then analysed descriptively interpretative. This research reveals that the current climate change has a correlation with the wrong way humans view nature, thus placing nature and natural resources only as fulfilers of human needs. Some humans today have lost the understanding of morality related to responsibility in managing nature, as a result environmental problems and climate change become a threat to life. The results showed that through ecospirituality and environmental ethics can be one of the strategies that can be applied at the level of individuals and community groups. The role of religious leaders is also influential in making policies on environmental management, because correct and wise environmental management will have an impact on the sustainability of life in the future which can achieve a harmonious balance between humans, nature and God.

Abstract

The extinction of local cultural identities gives rise to profound inquiries concerning the conservative approach that may be adopted by a range of stakeholders. The ongoing process of globalization continues to drive technological innovation, while local cultural knowledge is increasingly marginalized. Conversely, an affirmative attitude towards the preservation of local culture is positively correlated with knowledge of local culture. This study focuses on Wayang Kamasan culture and employs a machine learning-based approach to reintroduce Wayang Kamasan in the context of a global community. The research employs a combination of qualitative and experimental quantitative methods. The former is used to gain an in-depth understanding of the socio-cultural aspects of Wayang Kamasan, while the latter are employed to assess the effectiveness of machine learning methods. The findings demonstrate that the machine learning approach to classifying Wayang Kamasan is an effective method for preserving Balinese culture. By accurately classifying the visual identity of Wayang Kamasan, it is possible to digitally document it, thereby facilitating the preservation of Balinese local culture. Pattern recognition through classification enables the preservation of this cultural heritage in digital form while also supporting the recognition of Balinese wayang.

Abstract

This study examines the views of grassroots Javanese Muslims in Wukirsari, Imogiri, and Yogyakarta toward the authority of local kyai and television preachers (ustadz/ustadzah on the screen). This study aims to analyze how advances in media technology change the pattern of Islamic knowledge transmission and challenge traditional religious authority. Using a critical phenomenological approach, this study examines how media exposure shapes public perception, elevating celebrity preachers through the appeal of popularity while marginalizing traditional kyai rooted in local pesantren and social relations. The findings show that television creates a form of hyperreality that simulates religious legitimacy through visual performance, so the boundaries between ulama based on scientific sanad and media-constructed religious figures become blurred. However, many local kyai demonstrate adaptability to the digital shift without losing their traditional authority or social closeness to the community. The novelty of this study lies in the understanding that the contestation between traditional and modern Islamic authority is not simply a change in the pattern of preaching but also a complex identity struggle in the digital landscape. This study shows that symbolic authority in Islam is increasingly mediated, negotiated, and contested at the grassroots level, influenced by cultural and technological heritage.

Abstract

Javanese aesthetics embody the concept of beauty as experienced through rasa, a sensibility that integrates physical perception, spiritual intuition, and cultural meaning. Rooted in Javanese philosophical and mystical traditions, rasa serves as the essential criterion in defining aesthetic value. This study explores the manifestation of Javanese aesthetics in the craft of keris hilts made from Tayuman wood (Bauhinia purpurea), believed to possess spiritual potency (tuah). Beyond its fine texture, rich brown hue, and workable density, Tayuman wood is valued for its mystical energy. The unyeng-unyeng motif that concentric grain patterns formed by dormant branch knots is considered the visual and spiritual core of its aesthetic appeal. Using a qualitative research method with a Javanese aesthetic construction approach, this study applies hermeneutic interpretation and symbolic analysis to reveal the multilayered meanings embedded in the artifact. The analysis identifies both exoteric (technical and visual) and esoteric (spiritual and metaphysical) dimensions that converge harmoniously in the crafting process. The Tayuman wood keris hilt thus emerges not merely as an object of visual beauty, but as a symbolic expression of Javanese cultural identity, linking humans, nature, and the spiritual realm through the unity of art, belief, and tradition.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore the thoughts of the philosopher Tung Chung Shu who is a figure in Chinese philosophy. Tung Chung Shu managed to compile several aspects of philosophy and culture that developed in China during the Han dynasty. Tung Chung Shu's thought has relevance to the development of multiculturalism, especially in Indonesia amid globalization today. The condition of the Chinese nation has a different cultural background and has succeeded in reformulating the unifying ideology of the country so that it can improve the condition of a society that is experiencing chaos. The philosophy and culture of the Chinese nation that developed when in this condition was the Han Dynasty which was dominated by Taoism, Legalism, and Confucianism. A Chinese philosopher, Tung Chung Shu, combined the three schools with the core teachings of jen, yi, l, chi, and hsin with the main goal of realizing a happy, prosperous, and safe society. The situation of differences that exist in people's lives gave birth to multiculturalism which offers a cultural paradigm to understand and interpret the differences that develop in people's lives. This research uses the abstraction analysis method and then analyzes it through a comparative interpretative approach that begins with description and historical continuity. The results showed that (1) the condition of differences in society can be avoided from conflict if the government can implement multiculturalism policies in regulating the order of government as in Tung Chung Shu's thinking about good governance (2) the condition of a country depends on the attitude of the country's leaders so that the condition of multicultural society can be safe, harmonious, peaceful, prosperous cannot be separated from the role of state leaders (3) in addressing differences need the attitude of wisdom, humanity, courage, wisdom and virtue as the philosophical thought of Tung Chung Shu. In line with the conditions of the multicultural Indonesian nation, Tung Chung Shu's thoughts can be a reference in efforts to develop multiculturalism in Indonesia. This argument is supported by the situation and conditions of the Indonesian nation which has a diversity of ethnicities, cultures, religions, regions, and different cultural traditions.

Abstract

In order to preserve national integrity, religious moderation is essential. Buddhist teachings, like those of all other religions in Indonesia, support religious moderation. Buddhayana is one of the scholastic schools of Buddhism in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of Buddhayana ideas to Indonesian religious moderation. This study's methodology is a review of the literature. The study's findings suggest that certain Buddhist teachings align with the markers of religious moderation. The Kutadanta Sutta contains Buddhist teachings about national commitment. The Buddha exemplifies tolerance in the Upali Sutta by counselling devotees like Upali to carefully consider new views before changing, always showing respect for their prior affiliations. According to the Buddha, every human being develops non-violence based on their brahmavihara, which includes metta, karuna, mudita, and upekkha. The Buddha teaches accommodation of local culture in the Sigalovada Sutta, which says that proper understanding is the foundation for both openness and the preservation of local culture. The tenets of Buddhayana, which include a non-sectarian, inclusive, pluralistic, universal mindset and faith in Sanghayang Adi Buddha, are consistent with the practice of religious moderation.
