Abstract

The purposes of this research are to describe language teaching using genre approach, to describe the problems faced by students and lecturers at Language Center UMS, and to de- scribe the strengths and weaknesses of this approach in which the approach  is compared with a previous  method. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. It uses informant and docu- ment sources. The informants are the students of semester 2 and  the lecturers of Speaking Acqui- sition 2 at UMS. The techniques used in data collecting are by giving questionnaire, doing an in- terview, observing, and giving a test. The result of the research shows that (1) teaching English using genre approach has not been effective yet. The ineffectiveness of this approach is caused by (a) the lecturers, who still do not understand the concept of genre and how to teach it to the stu- dents, (b) the topic of dialogue is not interesting to the students, (c) the exercises of the book are not various, and (d) the students are not well-motivated by the lecturers. (2) Genre approach in teaching English is one of the methods to develop student and lecturer’s activity on speaking abil- ity. (3) The weakness of this approach is that the students are still lack of mastery on vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Based on the finding, it is suggested for the policy maker at LC to hold a workshop on teaching Speaking based on genre approach. The materials on workshop should be focused on teaching speaking for a big class, the method on giving the task or assign- ment, and the ways to evaluate it. It is also suggested that the curriculum should cover Reading Subject which can be used to emphasize on students vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.

Abstract

Perkembangan anak usia dini adalah hal yang sangat penting, karena sebagai penentu bagi diri anak di masa yang akan datang. Untuk itu sangatlah penting untuk menstimulasi dan memaksimalkan perkembangan anak usia dini yang meliputi aspek nilai agama, moral, fisik motorik, kognitif, bahasa, sosial emosional, dan seni. Dewasa ini, penggunaan gadget telah merebak pada anak usia dini. Hal ini terlihat dari orang tua yang mengasuh anak dengan gadget maupun dari anak itu sendiri yang sudah diperbolehkan dan terbiasa memakai gadget. Padahal penggunaan gadget pada anak usia dini akan mengakibatkan perkembangan anak terhambat dan terganggu. Untuk itu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan melakukan aktivitas yang dapat menstimulasi perkembangan anak, diantaranya adalah kegiatan mewarnai dan menghafal Al-Quran. Pada pengabdian ini dilaksanakan kegiatan mewarnai dan menghafal Al-Quran yang digelar dalam bentuk perlombaan. Kegiatan lomba mewarnai dan menghafal Al-Quran yang dilaksanakan di TK Islam Mardisiwi ini bertujuan agar orang tua lebih memperhatikan perkembangan anak dan mengetahui kegiatan serta manfaatnya yang baik bagi perkembangan mereka. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, dan praktek. Kesimpulan dari pengabdian ini adalah meningkatnya kesadaran bahaya menggunakan gadget pada anak usia dini dan pentingnya aktvitas-aktivitas yang dapat mendorong perkembangan anak usia dini.

Abstract

In Indonesia, it is common for kindergartens to include English in their curriculums. Most teachers and parents assume that the children will absorb any information easily, including English as a foreign language. Mardisiwi Islamic Kindergarten (MIK) in Surakarta is one of kindergarten which encloses English into its curriculum. The study was qualitative researchusing Research and Development method. The source of the data derived from the interviews with the headmaster, teachers, and the students of MIK. In addition, class observation and documentation were conducted. The data was analyzed by collecting, reducing, presenting, and determining the conclusion. In fact, several problems arise dealing with the teacher’s expertise, method, and learning material. This study was aimed to identify the learning models, classify the strength and the weaknesses of the models, and to propound a teaching model to be implementedin Mardisiwi Islamic Kindergarten. The model covers the learning process, time allotment, media, and method. It also involves drama-based learning method.

Abstract

Menghafal Al-Qur'an adalah usaha untuk membiasakan seorang mukmin dengan kitab sucinya. Menumbuhkan minat anak untuk menghafal Al Qur’an memang tidak semudah yang dibayangkan. Anak-anak di PPWNI (Pusat Pendidikan Warga Negara Indonesia) Klang Selangor, Malaysia terlihat tidak mampu menghafal surat-surat pendek dalam Al-Quran. Hal ini dikarenakan kurangnya dukungan bersekolah dari keluarga. Padahal, mereka adalah calon-calon generasi penerus bangsa Indonesia yang patut dibanggakan. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan di atas, tim pengabdi ini mengadakan kegiatan dalam bentuk pengenalan hafalan Qur’ an dengan metode Zahrawain bagi anak-anak di PPWNI Klang Malaysia. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, pelatihan dan evaluasi. Dampak dari program ini adalah anak-anak tidak hanya bisa menghafal Al Qur’an saja tetapi juga dapat membaca surat yang mereka hafal. Dari hasil kegiatan dapat dilihat bahwa sebagian besar anak-anak sudah hafal dan hanya sedikit yang belum hafal surat An-Naas. Selanjutnya efek dari hafalan Al Qur’an tersebut berdampak pada ketangguhan literasi hafalan dan bacaan mereka.

Abstract

Menghafal Al-Qur'an adalah upaya untuk membiasakan orang beriman dengan kitab sucinya agar tidak dibutakan olehnya. Mengembangkan minat guru dan Kepala TK dalam menghafal Al-Qur'an tidak semudah membalikkan telapak tangan. Guru, dan Kepala TK tampaknya belum bisa menghafal surat-surat pendek Al-Qur'an dengan mudah. Padahal, mereka adalah calon pendidik PAUD/TK, dan perlu menjadi panutan bagi anak didiknya saat terjun ke lapangan. Hasil observasi di TK Aisyiyah Surakarta menunjukkan masih banyak guru dan Kepala TK yang kesulitan berhadapan dengan hafalan surat-surat pendek. Mereka disibukkan dengan kegiatan sehari-hari di sekolah sehingga mereka sering lupa dengan surat-surat pendek yang mereka ajarkan kepada anak kita. Mereka juga jarang diawasi oleh pimpinan atau lembaga yang mereka ikuti. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan di atas, tim pengabdian ini mengadakan workshop Tahfidzul Quran. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, latihan dan evaluasi. Metode Zahrawain diberikan kepada peserta dengan cara peserta melihat dan mendengar apa yang diajarkan ustadz, kemudian menirukan bersama-sama, selanjutnya menghafal secara mandiri. Surat yang diberikan kepada peserta adalah Surat An Naba’. Lewat kegiatan workshop, para Kepala TK dan Guru merasa sangat terbantu. Selain ada yang membimbing dan mengarahkan, peserta tahu salah dan betulnya ketika mereka mengucapkan ayat-ayat yang dilantunkan secara langsung. Hasil dari hafalan yang mereka capai tergolong memuaskan.

Abstract

This study endeavours to enhance children’s English vocabulary acquisition through singing activities. The impetus for this research stemmed from the prevalent challenge of impediments encountered in mastering vocabulary among children, particularly in the realm of memorising multi-syllabic English words imparted by educators. Additionally, it addresses the issue of errors or inaccuracies in comprehending the intended meaning during English language learning sessions. This research adopts a classroom action methodology executed across three phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research cohort comprises 14 participants from Group A. Data collection methodologies encompassed the compilation of field notes, interview transcripts, and photographic documentation of the activities. Employing the singing method for English language acquisition proves to be a straightforward pedagogical approach, facilitating ease of vocabulary retention among children. Through this method, children can articulate their thoughts and emotions via melodic tones and expressions. Singing activities serve as a conduit to ignite children’s enthusiasm for learning, seamlessly integrating with the foundational principles of kindergarten education. The outcomes of this study reveal a notable enhancement in children’s English vocabulary proficiency. Progression is evident across the three stages of the intervention: from an initial attainment of 39% in stage I to 78% in stage II, and culminating in a substantial improvement to 91% in stage III. Thus, it can be inferred that the singing method constitutes an efficacious means to bolster children’s English vocabulary skills.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyse the strategies employed in nurturing honesty among children through Islamic animated films at PAUD Firdaus Karanganyar. Honesty is a core value in Islam, and instilling this virtue early is crucial for fostering integrity in individuals. The research methodology adopts a qualitative approach involving data collection through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings revealed that PAUD Firdaus Karanganyar implements a range of strategies to cultivate honesty characters in children, including carefully selecting Islamic animated films that impart moral lessons about honesty. Moreover, group discussions and role-playing activities effectively reinforce ethical values and encourage children to reflect on the importance of honesty in their daily lives. Additionally, incorporating narratives aligned with Islamic principles plays a significant role in the effectiveness of animated films as a medium for character education. These findings offer valuable insights into the efficacy of using Islamic animated films to promote honesty among children at an early stage of their development. Such initiatives lay a strong foundation for children's moral and ethical growth, shaping their character and guiding their conduct in the future.
