<![CDATA[The ability of young learners to grasp and to imitate what they hear is one of potential opportunities that should be taken into account by EYL teachers. They can use this advantage to facilitate them to acquire a good pronunciation since their earlier age. This article then tries to propose a classroom idea on how to help young learners learn audio discrimination by using flashcards. Audio discrimination is the ability to recognize the similarities and the differences among different sounds. This ability is very important to be developed especially for the teaching of reading since learners need to discriminate between sounds associated with different letters. Flashcards are considered as appropriate media because of its practicality to be used in the classroom and its economical reason. The detail of teaching procedure will be listed in pre-, whilst-, and post- teaching so that it is expected that this article give practical benefit to EYL teachersâ classroom practices. Â ]]>

<![CDATA[The present study aims to help nursing students to prepare the language skills required in the workplace. Need analysis was conducted to map the students? need so suitable materials can be designed for effective teaching. There were fifteen students of D3 Nursing in the University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin invited to be the participants of this research. The data were gathered by conducting a depth interview with the English lecturer, BP3TKI South Kalimantan, alumni who worked abroad, and the head of D3 nursing department. It was intended to collect data related to important language skills the students need to master. Besides, a questionnaire was also employed to get data regarding the students? need, want, and lack. The findings showed that D3 nursing students need to master at least three skills, such as basic English, work-related language skills, and academic-related language skills to enable them to go International.]]>

<![CDATA[Pada saat ini, peserta didik diharapkan untuk memiliki keterampilan sosial dan personal abad 21, yaitu kreatifitas, kolaborasi, berpikir kritis, dan komunikatif karena keterampilan kognitif saja tidak cukup untuk menghadapi tantangan yang akan mereka temukan di masa depan. Hal ini kemudian menjadi tantangan bagi para guru untuk bisa mengintegrasikan keempat komponen tersebut dalam pembelajaran dalam kelas. Pertimbangan ini menjadi latar belakang pelatihan pembuatan Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) yang diperuntukkan untuk guru-guru MGMP di Kalimantan Selatan. Pelatihan ini berupa workshop satu hari dimana para guru belajar mengenai konsep 4 C’S dan di akhir sesi pelatihan mereka diminta untuk berkolaborasi membuat RPP. Pada kegiatan kolaborasi ini guru-guru berdiskusi tentang suatu topik, menentukan langkah-langkah pembelajaran, sekaligus memikirkan dibagian mana mereka menyisipkan 4 C. RPP ditulis pada sebuah kertas karton besar yang kemudian akan didisplay dan dipresentasikan. Pada akhir kegiatan, peserta diminta untuk merefleksi apa yang telah mereka pelajari dan mengisi angket yang berisi persepsi dan evaluasi terhadap program pengabdian masyarakat ini. Peserta kegiatan merasa senang dan mendapatkan manfaat berupa praktik langsung pembuatan RPP serta berkolaborasi dengan rekan MGMP dari berbagai wilayah di Kalimantan Selatan.]]>

<![CDATA[Menghafal Al-Qur'an adalah upaya untuk membiasakan orang beriman dengan kitab sucinya agar tidak dibutakan olehnya. Mengembangkan minat guru dan Kepala TK dalam menghafal Al-Qur'an tidak semudah membalikkan telapak tangan. Guru, dan Kepala TK tampaknya belum bisa menghafal surat-surat pendek Al-Qur'an dengan mudah. Padahal, mereka adalah calon pendidik PAUD/TK, dan perlu menjadi panutan bagi anak didiknya saat terjun ke lapangan. Hasil observasi di TK Aisyiyah Surakarta menunjukkan masih banyak guru dan Kepala TK yang kesulitan berhadapan dengan hafalan surat-surat pendek. Mereka disibukkan dengan kegiatan sehari-hari di sekolah sehingga mereka sering lupa dengan surat-surat pendek yang mereka ajarkan kepada anak kita. Mereka juga jarang diawasi oleh pimpinan atau lembaga yang mereka ikuti. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan di atas, tim pengabdian ini mengadakan workshop Tahfidzul Quran. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, latihan dan evaluasi. Metode Zahrawain diberikan kepada peserta dengan cara peserta melihat dan mendengar apa yang diajarkan ustadz, kemudian menirukan bersama-sama, selanjutnya menghafal secara mandiri. Surat yang diberikan kepada peserta adalah Surat An Naba’. Lewat kegiatan workshop, para Kepala TK dan Guru merasa sangat terbantu. Selain ada yang membimbing dan mengarahkan, peserta tahu salah dan betulnya ketika mereka mengucapkan ayat-ayat yang dilantunkan secara langsung. Hasil dari hafalan yang mereka capai tergolong memuaskan.]]>

<![CDATA[Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengenali struktur dan isi artikel ilmiah yang baik. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, program pengabdian dilaksanakan dalam bentuk workshop yang didominasi oleh praktik. Praktik dilakukan melalui pemberian teks mentor sehingga mahasiswa bisa menganalisis secara langsung contoh karya yang telah terbit serta mengenali elemen-elemen yang diperlukan dalam menulis artikel yang terbit di jurnal terakreditasi Sinta 2 dan Sinta 3. Workshop ini diikuti oleh 35 mahasiswa berbagai jurusan di Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Keguruan Universitas Islam Negeri Antasari dan berlangsung selama satu hari penuh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan angket. Observasi bertujuan untuk melihat detail proses pelatihan serta kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengenali struktur dan isi artikel, yang ditampilkan pada presentasi dan hasil unjuk kerja. Selanjutnya, angket bertujuan untuk melihat persepsi terkait kebermanfaatan kegiatan terhadap kemampuan menulis mahasiswa. Analisis atas hasil observasi dilakukan secara kualitatif dan hasil angket secara kuantitatif. Hasil observasi selama proses workshop menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teks mentor dapat memandu mahasiswa untuk mengenali struktur dari artikel ilmiah dan konten dari struktur tersebut. Hasil dari angket evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa 90,5% peserta pelatihan mendapatkan manfaat dan 100% dari mereka antusias untuk mengikuti kegiatan serupa pada masa depan.]]>

<![CDATA[Using technology to teach English is not a new thing. Somehow, there are many applications that available for free lately. Very difficult for lecturer and teachers in Banjarmasin to update the knowledge of the new application and how to use it in their English classes. Therefore, this community service is to give the insight to lecturers and teachers in Banjarmasin about how to use application in teaching English skills. The workshop conducted in UIN Antasari by three speakers about how to use mentimeter, sli-do, and EdPuzzle for teaching 4 skills of English, namely: speaking, listening, writing and reading. Mostly the lecturers and teachers enjoy the workshop and plan to apply it in their future English classes. They believe that the application introduced can engage the learners and help them to be more autonomous.]]>

<![CDATA[Introducing young learners to learn a foreign language need extra efforts. It is due to the unique characteristics of young learners which require the teacher to live up the classroom’s atmosphere to engage them during the lesson. The present article elaborates the interactive instructional strategies can be used by teachers for teaching them. Thirty-eight students in the “Sentosa” orphanage and five caregivers joined the workshop to experience the practice of interactive teaching. The interactive teaching worked out three games, including I See Something, Spelling Bee, and Board Race. Questionnaire was given after the workshop and observation was also conducted so the students’ responses toward the strategies can be recorded. The result indicated that most of the young learners love to learn through those games. The interaction among them were also intense so it fostered the process of acquiring the new vocabulary. The teachers also commented that this strategy was fun and interesting.]]>

<![CDATA[Technology brings opportunities to extend the learning environment outside the classroom. An online course can be an extracurricular activity which allows the students to learn English for their career preparation. This article reports a developmental research for designing an online learning module for nursing students to pursue their career abroad. One English teacher and 40 nursing students from a private university participated in this research. Interview and questionnaire were employed to collect the data regarding the students’ need, usability, and the implementation of the product during the field try out. Two experts were also invited to evaluate the quality of the product’s content and instructional technology. The result of this developmental study is an online course and a workbook to accompany the students learning. The findings reveal that online learning has an opportunity to help students to shape their work-related language skills at home. The challenges for the implementation of this course are also discussed.]]>

<![CDATA[There are a lot of opportunities for nurses to pursue their career or to continue their study abroad. However, many of them are afraid of taking this chance for many reasons, including the lack of English skills. This study aims to bridge the gap between the English language materials that does not suit the needs and demands of D3 Nursing to go international. The research method used is Research and Development adapting from Borg & Gall. The process of material development is based on the development phase of the Skill-Based Approach by Hutchinson & Water. The subjects of the study were 15 D3 nursing students from University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin. Mixed method was employed as the data analysis technique. The result of this study is six units materials accompanied with syllabus and lesson plans. The materials were good according to the experts’ validation and it significantly affected the students’ work-related language skills.]]>
