Abstract

The rapid development of Palembang City comes with an increase in population and a proportionate increase in waste. Providing Temporary Waste Disposal Sites (TWDS) with ideal locations is one way to address the waste problem in Palembang City. The location of the existing TWDS could be more regular and optimal. The problem of determining the optimal TWDS location can be solved by optimization science, as classified in the Set Covering Problem (SCP) model. The SCP model is divided into the -Center Location Problem and -Median Problem models. This study aims to determine the optimal locations for TWDS in the Alang-Alang Lebar Sub-District, Palembang City, by comparing the results of the p-Center Location Problem and p-Median Problem models. Initially, the Alang-Alang Lebar Sub-District had 33 TWDS. After formulating the Set Covering Location Problem and Maximal Covering Location Problem models, we obtain the optimal solution, which we then solve using the -Center Location Problem and -Median Problem models. Based on the results and discussion, the optimal TWDS can meet the demand of each village in the Alang-Alang Lebar Sub-District. The -Center Location Problem and -Median Problem models produce the same optimal TWDS, namely TWDS Pramuka 2 Street and around, TWDS Colonel Sulaiman Amin Street, TWDS Talang Kelapa Ujung, and TWDS Beside Soekarno Hatta Street. This study recommends using both models to determine the optimal TWDS.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to formulate a C-RAN(Cloud-Radio Access Network) model based on a fair network combined with an isoelastic utility function and a modified cobb-douglas utility function and then optimize the consumer problem on bandwidth consumption by dividing the financing scheme into three, namely flat-fee, usage-based, and two-part tariff. This research uses traffic data containing inbound and outbound data with two split time which are in off-peak and on-peak hours. The data is obtained through one of the local server in Palembang. Previous research informed that the C-RAN model get optimal benefit if Internet Service Provider (ISP) applies it. The improvement of the model is to be conducted using two utility function to seek for improved solutions. The new proposed model has best solution that has been improved using an isoelastic utility function of flat-fee financing type with an objective value obtained of 1.83333 with 17 iterations. It can be concluded that new designed model can achieve better results rather than old version involving C-RAN model

Abstract

Learning and research in higher education have experienced many challenges and problems, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. However, these challenges have been overcome using online learning platforms such as Moodle University, Zoom, Google Meetings, and Microsoft Teams. However, this has not been fully resolved in the field of research. It is sometimes complicated for research teams to work together on research. Research records or research logbooks are not quickly sent via email. In addition, research records, such as computer programming, require direct handling of the program that has been created without copying and pasting. Mathematics research also requires fast and dynamic access. Google Colab is a Google collaboration that provides free, cloud-based tools for education and research. Google Colab is particularly eye-catching because it gives users free access to GPU services as a computing backend that can be used for 12 hours. If you want to learn Python and machine learning, buying a computer with an additional GPU is unnecessary. The training process in these two fields is tricky, especially if the equipment is inadequate. Mathematics lecturers in Palembang need assistance because lecturers' knowledge about Google Colab is still very low. The implementation team conducted a mentoring activity on using Google Colab for machine learning and Python through the Zoom platform. The activity consists of several stages: explanation, tutorial, and practice.

Abstract

Mathematical modeling plays an essential role in mathematics learning, particularly in developing students analytical and problem-solving skills. Linear programming, as one of the core topics in optimization, often presents conceptual difficulties for students when linking abstract mathematical formulations to real-world problems. This study aims to analyze learning strategies for teaching linear programming through the implementation of mathematical modeling to improve students conceptual understanding and reasoning abilities. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, focusing on literature review and classroom observations related to the used of mathematical models in teaching linear programming. The findings show that incorporating modeling steps-such as problem identification, variable formulation, and interpretation of result-helps students comprehend abstract mathematical ideas more effectively. Moreover, the integration of mathematical modeling encourages active learning and promotes students engagement in solving contextual problems. In conclusion, the use of mathematical modeling as a learning strategy provides a meaningful framework that enhances understanding, crirical thinking, and problem-solving skills in linear programming instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a concrete illustration of the application of systems of linear equations in two variables (SPLDV) and two-variable linear programming in solving real-world problems commonly encountered in daily life. The background of this research is rooted in the persistently low ability of students and small business practitioners to apply linear mathematical concepts to support decision-making processes, such as determining product prices and optimizing production. Using a descriptive method with a conceptual quantitative approach, this study presents two illustrative case studies: the determination of unit prices for stationery products through SPLDV, and the optimization of the production combination of woven bags and mats in a rattan-based small enterprise through two-variable linear programming under time constraints. The results indicate that SPLDV can objectively determine product prices based on transaction data, while linear programming provides an optimal solution in the form of producing 12 bags and 6 mats, yielding a maximum profit of IDR 1,320,000. These findings demonstrate that linear mathematical models serve as effective and applicable tools to support decision-making in both microeconomic contexts and mathematics education.
