Abstract

This research analysed the function and meaning behind traditional elders’ perceptions and roles in solo hulir se’ang hala; a customary dispute resolution process, the role of traditional elders as negotiators in language conflicts that may occur, and the central role of traditional elders in interpreting every verbal and non-verbal activity. Conducted in Habi and Langir Villages, Sikka Regency, the study adopts a descriptive qualitative method within an ethnolinguistic framework. Traditional elders (’ata du’a mo’an) from these villages provided insights through observations and interviews. Solo hulir se’ang hala, equivalent to “insulting others” in the local language, encompasses actions like presumptuous speech, gossip, or slander, leading to communal disputes addressed by traditional elders. Offenders receive customary fines, including advice, guidance, and obligations to pay sanctions, to prevent recurrence. Each type of offensive speech incurs specific fines, acknowledging the wrong (haput wae meang). The resolution of disputes culminates in the Pati Wawi Perang Pare ritual, involving the communal slaughter of a pig and cooking of rice. The ceremony incorporates various language functions—expressive, informative, and directive—and meanings—connotative, social, and affective or emotive. This study highlighted the integral role of traditional elders in maintaining social harmony through customary rituals and language use.

Abstract

Di era digital saat ini, media sosial telah menjadi alat penting dalam menyebarkan informasi dan berkomunikasi dengan audiens yang luas. Penggunaan Facebook sebagai media informasi telah merambah berbagai sektor, termasuk pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana pengelolaan berita pada Facebook universitas  Nusa Nipa dapat digunakan sebagai media informasi yang efektif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode survey dan wawancara mendalam dan dianalisis dengan teknik analisis tematik. Proses analisis data melibatkan beberapa tahap, antara lain Transkripsi, Koding, Kategoriasasi dan Interpretasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Facebook merupakan platform yang efektif untuk menyebarkan informasi dan berita kepada segenap civitas akademika Universitas Nusa Nipa. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang berharga bagi institusi pendidikan lainnya dalam memanfaatkan media sosial untuk tujuan yang sama dan memberikan rekomendasi praktis untuk meningkatkan strategi pengelolaan konten di media sosial.

Abstract

Community Service Activities (PkM) in the form of workshops and mentoring to teachers at SDK 025 Kloangrotat, are based on the problems faced by teachers at the school. Most teachers only teach fixated on textbooks provided by the government. Teachers lack innovation and development of teaching materials, especially integrating the values of local wisdom of Sikka Regency into teaching materials. The purpose of this activity is to increase teachers understanding of the concept of developing teaching materials based on local wisdom and their skills in designing application-based teaching materials. The implementation method is in the form of socialization, training, and mentoring for teachers. The result of this activity is that all teachers can understand the concept of developing teaching materials based on local wisdom and are able to design their own teaching materials based on the Canva-Pro application. Activities can have a further impact by encouraging teachers to always develop their abilities while being accompanied continuously by instructors or learning experts.
