Abstract

Learning foreign languages for worldwide communication has become increasingly important for university students as the desire for global integration has grown. As a result, English as a second language should become a required course at the university level. However, achieving their speaking competency level in this situation is difficult for English learners. Due to specific limitations in English speaking barriers, this research was conducted to find out the learners' barriers to speaking English. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data collected. The subjects of this research were the sixth-semester learners from five different study programs at the Christian University of Indonesia (UKI) Toraja (UKI Toraja). The researchers used a snowball sampling technique and elected 20 students as participants. To collect the data, the researchers used semi-structured interviews. The result of the data analysis showed that the sixth-semester learners found barriers in speaking English. Those barriers are: 1) psychological barriers (anxiety, shyness, nervousness, lack of confidence, fear of making mistakes), and 2) linguistic barriers (lack of vocabulary, lack of grammar

Abstract

This research intended to find out the comprehensive description of learning strategies, and styles applied by the part-time job University student at the Christian University of Indonesia Toraja, and all the contributing factors that affect his learning process. The method used in this research was grounded theory. The instruments were an interview, direct observation, and documentation. The participant of the research was the part-time job student academic year 2014/2015 at English Department of Christian university of Indonesia Toraja. The result of the research showed that (i) the learning strategies performed by this student were the direct and indirect strategy. The direct strategy included memory, cognitive, compensation strategies while indirect strategy covered affective and social strategy. (ii) Learning styles perform by this student were visual and kinesthetic style. And (iii) the factors contributing to student's success were Personality, Motivation, English practicing, Social interaction, and Self-management. Keywords: learning strategies, learning styles, contributing factors to learning process, part time job student.

Abstract

Since the languages of the world come in contact, the society will experience something that called language contact and all of language phenomenon. Phenomenon that might be happening as the result of language contact is bilingualism. Bilingualism not only occurs in society but it also occurs in children language. When the bilingual children come in contact, there is bound to be a problem like interference which is a sociolinguistic phenomenon. This research focuses on language interference in bilingual elementary students by means of finding the types of interference and Factors Causing Occurrence of Interference. The findings proved that syntactic and semantic interference are types of interference that commonly occur in elementary students. Insufficient vocabulary receiver, The disappearance of words that are rarely used, The prestige of the source language and the language style, Entrainment habits in the mother tongue, and The user can not use the second language as good as first language are the factors causing the interference.

Abstract

This publication systematically reviews literature on MBKM (Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka). As MBKM is relatively a new program, its prospects and challenges in its implementation in English language teaching are regarded important to be scholarly-reviewed. In this study, the total of 17 scholarly-published journals were systematically reviewed. The journals included in this study were those published in 2020 and 2021 which set “Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka” and/or “MBKM” as keywords. The searching was conducted on www.google.co.id. Based on analysis, it is found that all journals appreciate the MBKM programs as promising and innovative. Furthermore, the scholarly-published journals explore the MBKM programs through philosophical basis, its implementation, challenges, and how they are perceived. In addition, the 8 programs and 4 policies are mainly set as the findings. In this publication, the future of English language teaching and learning through 8 programs and 4 policies of “Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka” is addressed.

Abstract

Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bermitra dengan guru SMP Negeri di Kecamatan Sesean, Rantepao, Toraja Utara sebagai Mitra sasaran masyarakat yang tidak produktif secara ekonomi. Tujuan Pelaksanaan program PKM ini yaitu untuk menyelesaikan rangkaian permasalahan pedagogis dan teknologi pada Mitra Sasaran terkait penyediaan bahan atau Materi ajar berbasis Website. Permasalahan yang menjadi fokus pada PKM ini berangkat dari temuan pada studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan pada awal tahun 2021. Adapun permasalahan yang dimaksud yaitu belum tersedianya materi ajar dalam bentuk website pada Mitra Sasaran. Metode pelaksanaan ialah dengan sosialisasi, pelatihan, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang melibatkan 10 orang guru ini di antaranya: (1) guru mampu mendesain bahan ajar berbasis website, (2) guru dapat memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dalam pembelajaran yang diampu, (3) guru bisa mengembangkan kemampuan lebih optimal dalam pembuatan bahan ajar di sekolah dengan lebih baik

Abstract

Selama penyebaran covid-19 kegiatan belajar mengajar di SMPN 3 Sesean Satap mengalamai kendala dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran daring karena akses internet yang sangat terbatas. Oleh karena itu tujuan dari Pengabdian ini adalah: 1) Untuk menambah literasi elektronik berbasis aplikasi Offline pada siswa SMPN 3 Sesean Satap demi meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran secara daring. 2) Melatih menggunakan aplikasi offline untuk bisa belajar mandiri selama pembelajaran daring. Untuk metode pelaksanaan Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam empat tahapan yaitu: 1) sosialisasi, 2) Pelatihan, 3)Pendampingan, 4) Evaluasi. Setelah melakukan pelatihan ada tiga dampak positif yang dirasakan oleh siswa SMPN 3 Sesean Satap yaitu: 1) Sisawa dapat memanfaatkan aplikasi offline sebagai referensi/Literasi elektronik, 2) Siswa mampu menggunakan berbagai macam aplikasi offline untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. 3) Siswa dapat memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi sebagai media dan sumber pembelajaran bahasa inggris selama pembelajaran daring.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out the teacher motivations in teaching at rural area. The participants of the research will be four non-permanent teachers that have been teaching in rural area. Meanwhile, this study is a qualitative method which is to find out what are the teacher motivations in teaching at rural area. Those teachers will be determined by using purposive technique sampling. The researcher uses interviews to find out the results of the research. The analyzed result of the data showed, if the researcher found there are three motivations that can motivated the teacher in teaching at rural area. Meanwhile they are consisting of; the natives, self-desire, and the last one which is, life condition and the environment. Based on the result above, there are three factors that can motivate the non- permanent teachers. The first one which is categorized as the intrinsic motivation consists of self-desire. Meanwhile, the second is categorized as the extrinsic motivations which are the natives, and, the life condition and the environment. From two kind of the motivations mentioned above, it is clear if the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factor can motivate the non-permanent teachers when performing their duty in rural area.

Abstract

Membaca merupakan kegiatan yang wajib  bagi semua orang khususnya siswa. Kebiasaan membaca pada siswa sangat kurang khusunya di lingkungan sekolah dasar. Untuk itu, Tim PKM (Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat) hadir untuk melakukan gerakan literasi dan kebiasaan baca bagi siswa sekolah dasar yang bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan minat membaca, menambah pengetahuan dan dapat membantu siswa untuk berkomunikasi secara efektif dalam lingkungan masyarakat sekolah. Pojok Baca Digital ini bertujuan untuk membantu masyarakat sekolah dalam meningkatkan minat baca dan literasi siswa. Metode pada kegiatan ini adalah metode kualitatif yang terdiri dari pra pelaksanaan, pelaksanaan dan pasca pelaksanaan. Kegiatan ini pun dimulai dengan observasi dengan tujuan menganalisi kondisi dan kebutuhan masyarakat setempat kemudian dari hasil observasi tersebut, Tim PKM berhasil mengidentifikasi dan menyepakati bahwa kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini difokuskan pada pengembangan Pojok Baca Digital khususnya bagi siswa SD yang berada di lembang Uluway. monitoring dan evaluasi hasil kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh Tim PKM di akhir kegiatan memberikan hasil yang cukup memuaskan    dimana siswa sangat antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan pojok baca digital.  Abstract. Reading is an activity that is mandatory for everyone, especially students. The habit of reading in students is very lacking, especially in the elementary school environment. For this reason, the PKM (Community Service) Team is here to carry out literacy and reading habits for elementary school students which aim to foster an interest in reading, increase knowledge and can help students to communicate effectively within the school community. This Digital Reading Corner aims to assist the school community in increasing students' interest in reading and literacy. The method for this activity is a qualitative method consisting of pre-implementation, implementation and post-implementation. This activity began with observations with the aim of analyzing the conditions and needs of the local community. Then from the results of these observations, the PKM Team was able to identify and agree that this community service activity was focused on developing a Digital Reading Corner, especially for elementary school students in the Uluway valley. monitoring and evaluating the results of the activities carried out by the PKM Team at the end of the activity gave quite satisfactory results where students were very enthusiastic in participating in digital reading corner activities.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out of the teacher’s creativities on ELT during the pandemic covid-19 at SMA Negeri 1 Toraja Utara. This research is qualitative and the subjects were the english teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Toraja Utara. The researcher collected the data by interviewing the participants of this research. Next, the writer analyzed the data obtained to find out some creativities in ELT by the English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Toraja Utara based on the five categories those are : 1) Conveyed in presentation of lesson. 2) Creativity in giving assignments. 3) Creativity in teacher. 4) learner interaction. 4) Creativity in teacher characteristics. The result of the research of the research showed that the teachers used several applications to applied five categories of teacher’ creativities above, those are: WhatSapp, Google meet, Zoom meeting, Google classroom besides that the teacher also made tutorial video to do a assignment.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi merupakan salah satu faktor yang ikut serta mempengaruhi perilaku peserta didik dalam belajar. Dalam Penelitian ini, penulis mencoba untuk membuat media pembelajaran yang menarik bagi siswa dan bisa digunakan tidak hanya pada jam pelajaran tetapi dimanapun dan kapanpun mereka dapat mengaksesmya. Salah satu media yang dapat digunakan yaitu Website. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan Model Pembelajaran berbasis Digital Content (Digital Content Assisted Language Learning) dalam pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis website. Penelitian ini menggunakan Research and Development dengan menggunakan ADDIE Model. Populasi dan sampel dari penelitian ini adalah siswa SMA di Kabupaten Tanah Toraja pada tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Prosedur pengembangan dibagi dalam lima tahap yaitu 1) Tahap analisis berupa studi pustaka dan studi lapangan dan Analisis kebutuhan, 2) Tahap desain, 3) Tahap pengembangan, 4) Tahap implementasi dan 5) Tahap Evaluasi. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan dokumentasi dan angket yang dianalisa secara deskriptif dan statistik inferensial melalui program SPSS versi 22 untuk Windows. Hasil penelitian ini guru dapat menerapkan atau menggunakan media pembelajaran yang sesuai perkembangan zaman yaitu berbasis website yang dapat diakses oleh siswa bukan hanya dikelas melaikan dimana saja dan kapan saja. Dengan adanya Media pembelajaran berbasis website tersebut diiharapkan budaya literasi mahasiswa juga dapat meningkat
