Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) to find out the effects of jigsaw technique on students’ ability in writing the paragraph elements at the fourth semester students of UKI-Toraja, (2) to find out whether the students are interested in the teaching of paragraph elements using jigsaw technique. This research employed cluster random sampling technique. It used two groups, one received treatment using Jigsaw Technique and the other group received the conventional way from the Lecturer who taught writing two in that semester. The subjects of this research were two classes, class B (22) as experimental group and class C (22) as control group. The data of this research was collected through writing test and questionnaire. The results of the research revealed that (1) using Jigsaw Technique affects the ability of the fourth semester students of UKIToraja in writing the elements of a good paragraph. (2) The interest of class B as experimental group of the fourth semester students of UKI-Toraja in writing the elements of a good paragraph showed a great positive.

Abstract

Language will be acquired and mastered due to habitual factors. In the case of second language learning in higher education, it is expected that the use of English as language instruction is needed to improve students ability in Speaking. In fact, in the learning process, code-switching is still carried out by lecturers, and result of some studies shows that students respond positively to the it. The purpose of this study is to find out the function of code-switching carried out by lecturers in Speaking classes at UKI Toraja. Researchers used quantitative descriptive methods. This research population are lecturers who perform code-switching in Speaking courses in the classroom at UKI Toraja. Total sampling is used in sample selection with interviews as a tool for collecting data. The results of the study processed using quantitative descriptive methods. The result shows that lectures switch code in teaching Speaking for several functions. They are: a. to introduce new topic b. to create good learning atmosphere. c to build effective, flexible and non-rigid communication d. as a strategy to facilitate and check student understanding e. to minimize the students’ levels of anxiety in conveying their ideas.

Abstract

The objectives of this research is to find out the influence of mother tongue (Torajan Language) toward pronunciation of English by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Rantepao.In analyzing the data of this reserach, the reseacrher employed qualitative method. The subjects of this research were the students of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Rantepao. The data of this research were collected by making voice recording, observation and interview. The obtained data were analyzed in three major phases, namely reduction, data display and conclusion. The result of the research revealed some facts of the influence of mother tongue (Torajan language) toward pronunciation of English by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Rantepao. First, the influence of mother tongue (Torajan language) of the sound /e/ that pronounced by the CIBI students. Such as, the pronunciation of letter “a” become /e/, the pronunciation of letter “i” become /e/, the pronunciation of letter “d” become /de/, the pronunciation of letter “ia” become /e/, the pronunciation of letter “io” become /e/, the pronunciation of letter “au” become /e/, the pronunciation of letter “ou” become /e/ and the pronunciation of letter “e” become /e/. Second, the types of the influence of mother tongue (Torajan language) that students pronounced by the eleventh garade students of SMAN 1 Rantepao (CIBI class) is the sound /r/follow the language style of Torajan people. Therefore, based on the research, the researcher conclude that there is influence of mother tongue (Torajan language) toward pronunciation of English by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Rantepao in pronouncing the sound /e/ and /r/.

Abstract

The Ice Breaking Method Effectiveness on students’ Enthusiasm in Learning English at SMPN 1 Saluputti. Students at junior high school are majorly teenagers that biologically transform from children to adolescence. This phase effects the students tend to have lack of confidence. This research to verify whether the ice breaking methods is effective on students’ enthusiasm in learning English at SMPN 1 Saluputti. The objective of this research is to find the effectiveness of the ice breaking method to improve the students’ enthusiasm in learning English at SMPN 1 Saluputti. This research is a kind of descriptive quantitative method. The subject of this research was the ninth grade students at SMPN 1 SALUPUTTI. The data of this research was collected by questionnaire. Then the data was analyzed by Likert Scale. The result of the findings about the effectiveness of the ice breaking method to improve the students’ enthusiasm in learning English at SMPN 1 Saluputti.is effective. It can be seen on the the students statement in the first questionnaire result obtained 74.5% that falling into strongly agree category and the students statement in the second questionnaire result obtained 88.3% with strongly agree category. Based on the results of this research, the researcher concludes that most of students have an increased enthusiasm in learning English when the teacher use the ice breaking method in the learning proses. So, the used of ice breaking method on students enthusiasm in lerning English at SMPN 1 Saluputti is effective.

Abstract

The objectives of the research is to find out the social values implied in garonto’ passura’. In analyzing the data of this research, the research employed qualitative method, semiotic approach of Pierce triadic theory. The subjects of this research were engrever of Toraja traditional house, Toraja traditional guide, Toraja cultural observer and Toraja cultural activist. The data of this research were collected by observation, interview and documents analysis. The obtained data were analyzed data transcript, reduction, classified, transcribed. The results of this research from garonto’ passura’ is a prayer and aspiration of the owner of Tongkonan for the present and future. Moreover, the carving pattern found on tongkonan symbolizes social status Toraja peope based on the results of research and discussion, conclusions can be drawn that the engraving depict symbols of objects and creatures in Toraja people’s life. The message implied in the tongkonan engraving is a philosophy Toraja people’s life itself.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM ini dilaksanakan di Jemaat Kanuruan, Lembang Nonogan, Toraja Utara. Jumlah peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan ini  yaitu 31 orang. Kegiatan ini dilakukan 3 kali dalam seminggu selama 2 bulan. Kegiatan PKM ini disambut baik oleh warga jemaat dan sangat mendukung kegiatan ini. Jemaat  juga ikut memfasilitasi kegiatan ini dengan menyiapkan tempat kegiatan  dan Mendorong anak sekolah minggu untuk mengikuti kegiatan ini. Adapun proses pembelajaran menggunakan game offline berbasis aplikasi android.  Adapun hasil kegiatan ini yaitu meningkatnya motivasi peserta untuk belajar bahasa inggris, meningkatnya kemampuan berbahasa bahasa inggris seiring dengan meningkatnya kosakata mereka setelah mengikuti pelatihan. Ada perbedaan nilai rata-rata yang cukup jauh sebelum dan sesudah mengikuti latihan dari lima aspek yang dinilai. Nilai kosakata meningkat dari nilai rata sebelum pelatihan yaitu 30 meningkat menjadi 83,3 setalah mengikuti pelatihan, Speaking juga mengalami peningkatan dari 36,6 menjadi 86,6, kemudian nilai grammar dari 23,3 meningkat menjadi 80,  sementara nilai reading 30 meningkat menjadi 80.  Abstract. This PKM activity was held at the Kanuruan Congregation, Lembang Nonogan, North Toraja. The number of participants who took part in this activity were 31 people. This activity was carried out 3 times a week for 2 months. This PKM activity was welcomed by the congregation members and very supportive of this activity. The congregation also facilitated this activity by preparing the activity site and encouraging Sunday school children to take part in this activity. The learning process uses offline games based on Android applications. The results of this activity are increasing the motivation of participants to learn English, increasing their ability to speak English along with increasing their vocabulary after attending the training. There is a significant difference in the average score before and after taking part in the five aspects assessed. Vocabulary scores increased from the average score before the training, which was 30, increased to 83.3 after attending the training. Speaking also increased from 36.6 to 86.6, then grammar scores increased from 23.3 to 80, while reading scores increased from 30 to 80

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find the level of speaking anxiety of the third semester students’ of English education study program FKIP UKI Toraja. In analyzing the data of this research, the researcher employed quantitative method. The subject of this research were the third semester students’ of English education study program FKIP UKI Toraja. The data of this research was collected by questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed using likert scale techniques to analyze data. The results of the research indicate that speaking anxiety is experienced by most students. The data obtained from the positive statement is 66,5% and from the negative statement is 65,9%. The mean score of the data is 66,2%. Based on the result of this study the researcher concluded that the level of speaking anxiety of the students’ was on medium anxiety

Abstract

Fungsi bahasa sangatlah penting dalam kehidupan manusia. Bahasa dalam wujud wacana menghubungkan dan menyampaikan maksud dari komunikator terhadap pendengar. Bahasa dalam wujud wacana tidak hanya memberikan dampak positif tapi juga dampak negatif dalam kegiatan interaksi social. Bahasa memang sebuah sarana atau media yang digunakan untuk mengekspresikan segala hal yang ada pada diri kita maupun yang ada di luar diri kita, namun bahasa pula yang menjadi salah satu penyebab munculnya ketidakharmonisan hubungan antar sesama manusia. Akibat dari ketidakharmonisan yang muncul akibat penggunaan bahasa akan berdampak terhadap hubungan, produktivitas dan capaian kinerja, baik di lingkungan keluarga, sekolah maupun dalam lingkungan pekerjaan. Salah satu segi dari kajian wacana yang menjadi fokus penelitian ini adalah wacana sebagai media komunikasi dalam bentuk tuturan lisan. Tuturan lisan inilah yang dominan digunakan dalam berbagai interaksi sosial, dalam berbagai bidang dan bentuk. Dari hasil penelitian tuturan lisan yang menjadi fokus kajian adalah situasi/keadaan, pemilihan diksi dan cara atau gaya penyampaian tuturan wacana tersebut yang berdampak pada terpicuhnya amarah seseorang. Hasil dari penelitian ini penelitian ini adalah kemarahan karena bahasa tutur terjadi karena keadaan psikologis dan situasi yang dialami oleh pengalam. Penelitian ini juga mengukapkan bahwa ungkapan kemarahan diindikasikan dengan kata-kata dan ungkapan yang diucapkan. Kemarahan tersebut diungkapkan dengan intonasi suara yang keras tajam dengan tujuan membuat orang yang dimarahi sakit hati dan tersinggung, sering kali berujung pada perkelahian ketika kemarahannya sudah tidak terkendalikan.

Abstract

Pada umumnya sarana prasarana yang digunakan masih di bawah standar yang tentunya diharapkan bisa menyesuaikan sesuai dengan perkembangan zaman. Selain itu kurikulum yang diberlakukan masih cenderung sama dengan kurikulum KTSP. Dampak dari keadaan ini bisa berakibat pada capaian mutu pendidkan yang rendah bagi siswa di SDN 160 Tanete. Persoalan terkait kurangnya literasi siswa tentang bahasa khususnya bahasa Inggris, wawasan tentang budaya sebagai kearifan local, dan wawasan terkait media digital perlu diatasi dengan program bimbingan dengan pengembangan literasi siswa sekolah dasar melalui progran three in one rolling session (bimbingan basic english, ceritra lisan, dan pengenalan komputer dan media digital). Luaran PKM ini adalah publikasi jurnal nasional terindeks sinta 4. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan selama 3 bulan masa pengabdian yaitu bulan Januari sampai dengan April 2023

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi efektivitas penerapan motivasi dan kesopanan berbasis budaya lokal melalui media bahasa dalam kurikulum pengajaran di tingkat Sekolah Dasar (SD). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan melibatkan beberapa SD di daerah yang mewakili keberagaman budaya lokal. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas, wawancara dengan guru, serta kuesioner yang diberikan kepada siswa dan orang tua. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan motivasi dan kesopanan berbasis budaya lokal melalui media bahasa memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap pembelajaran di tingkat SD. Guru yang menggunakan pendekatan ini melaporkan peningkatan dalam partisipasi siswa, motivasi belajar, dan pemahaman materi pelajaran. Siswa juga menunjukkan respon yang positif terhadap penggunaan media bahasa yang mengintegrasikan unsur-unsur budaya lokal, menyatakan bahwa hal tersebut membuat pembelajaran menjadi lebih menarik dan relevan bagi mereka. Selain itu, orang tua juga mengamati perubahan positif dalam perilaku dan minat belajar anak-anak mereka setelah menerapkan pendekatan ini. Mereka melaporkan peningkatan dalam sikap sopan santun dan rasa hormat terhadap budaya lokal mereka. Penerapan motivasi dan kesopanan berbasis budaya lokal melalui media bahasa dapat menjadi strategi efektif dalam meningkatkan pembelajaran di tingkat SD. Rekomendasi untuk penelitian selanjutnya termasuk pengembangan lebih lanjut terhadap kurikulum yang mengintegrasikan aspek budaya lokal secara menyeluruh, serta pelatihan untuk guru dalam mengimplementasikan pendekatan ini secara efektif.
