Abstract

Storytelling has emerged as an effective instructional strategy that enhances students’ oral proficiency, vocabulary knowledge, comprehension, and overall literacy skills. By integrating imagination and emotional engagement, it promotes reading fluency, enriches vocabulary acquisition, and encourages the use of language in meaningful contexts. The study aims to investigate the influence of storytelling on students’ communicative competence and to evaluate its contribution to the improvement of their language abilities. The researchers used Classroom Action Research with 28 students from the Financial Accounting Program at the State Polytechnic of Malang, reveals that storytelling not only strengthens communicative competence but also increases learners’ motivation by linking personal experiences to classroom learning. Moreover, this approach fosters clarity in expression, improves both written and spoken communication, and cultivates digital literacy skills, all of which contribute to students’ academic advancement. Findings demonstrate that storytelling positively impacts oral communication by helping learners connect vocabulary with meaning and emotion. It also supports vocabulary expansion and deepens understanding of contextually appropriate language use. The quantitative results further confirm notable progress, as evidenced by an increase in the students’ pre-test scores—from 65 to 70 in the post-test—reflecting significant improvement in both oral communication proficiency and vocabulary development. The conclusion revealed that the model was implemented successfully, demonstrating its effectiveness in achieving the intended outcomes.

Abstract

Although the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education is increasingly developing, research that simultaneously examines student perceptions, classroom practices, and lecturer readiness in the ESP context in developing countries remains limited. This study aims to analyze the effect of AI integration on ESP learning effectiveness, identify implementation challenges, and evaluate lecturers’ pedagogical and ethical readiness. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, this study involved 57 non-English major students in the quantitative phase, followed by interviews with 6 ESP lecturers and learning observations. The results show a strong and significant positive correlation between perceptions of AI use and ESP learning effectiveness (r = 0.712; p < 0.01). AI has the most impact on reading comprehension (M = 4.00) and ease of access to materials (M = 3.98). Qualitative findings identified four main themes: low critical digital literacy among students, minimal ethical awareness, suboptimal pedagogical readiness of lecturers, and limitations in institutional policies and infrastructure. These findings confirm the importance of institutional AI policies, ethics-based lecturer training, and strengthening digital literacy to support effective and responsible AI integration in ESP learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the preparation of the sales budget used in preparing the production cost budget at UD Usaha Jaya. The data used consist of company data from the previous three years. This study is a type of quantitative research using both primary and secondary data. The Least Square method is used for sales forecasting and separating semi-variable costs. The results indicate that the 2024 sales budget served as the basis for the production cost budget, which includes raw material costs, direct labor, and factory overhead. However, the study found that the preparation of both sales and production cost budgets did not follow standardized procedures, leading to significant discrepancies between planned and actual figures. A key weakness of this study is its limited scope, focusing on a single home industry, which may reduce the generalizability of the findings. Additionally, reliance on historical internal data may not fully capture market dynamics or external factors affecting demand. The study recommends that the company adopt a more structured approach to budgeting and consider integrating digital budgeting tools to improve forecasting accuracy and cost control.

Abstract

This research aims to assess the effectiveness of English language training in improving the competitiveness of MSMEs, with a case study on My Zahro Collection, an MSME in the field of Muslim fashion. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method in the form of community service. Data was collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, as well as pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement of participants' skills after the training. The training involved four main sessions, namely business communication in English, international business transactions, product description creation, and digital marketing strategies. The results showed that before the training, the majority of My Zahro Collection employees had limitations in business vocabulary (65% low category), speaking ability (70% low category), and understanding of digital marketing strategies (75% low category). After the training, there were significant improvements in each skill aspect, with understanding of digital marketing strategies increasing by 55%, ability to write product descriptions by 50%, speaking ability by 45%, and understanding of business vocabulary by 40%. In addition, 90% of participants felt more confident in communicating with international customers. This research confirms that practice-based English language training is effective in improving MSMEs' business communication skills. Hence, similar training programs need to be developed sustainably to support MSMEs in improving their global competitiveness.
