Abstract

.................... The access to palliative care in ends of life is one of the patients’ rights. Therefore it should be delivered into every level of health care for patients and family members. In some countries, palliative care is more frequent delivered in hospitals compare to primary health care, even though primary health care has a significant role in providing palliative care. Most families prefer to care for patients at home rather than in the hospital................................... The implementation of palliative care in Indonesia is still very limited to certain hospitals, even though doctors in primary care have great potential to offer such care to people in the community. Some of the factors contributing to the implementation are cultural and socioeconomic factors, patient and family perceptions, attitudes of service providers, lack of trained personnel, distribution of palliative care units, lack of consolidation and limited funds. As a result, patients with end-stage disease die in hospitals without receiving palliative care or dying at home with inadequate support................

Abstract

From 10–19, adolescence is a transition from childhood to adulthood. There will be changes in the shape and function of the body in a reasonably short time. Sufficient and adequate nutrition for adolescents is one factor affecting their reproductive health. This community service aimed to monitor nutritional status and detect early signs of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). Monitoring of nutritional status is carried out for adolescents, especially young women. Physical health and healthy reproductive organs are essential in preparation for becoming healthy expectant mothers who can later give birth to a healthy generation. Holistic health education was needed in adolescents' growth to become better human beings in terms of their health. This activity was carried out in May 2023 at Junior High School, YPI Ciparay, and Bandung Regency. The target audience was young girls in 7th grade; there were 82 people. At the time, the students filled out questionnaires about their characteristics. Then the team measured the anthropometrics to determine the nutritional status and the incidence of CED by weighing, measuring height, and measuring upper arm circumference. The measurements showed that the nutritional status based on body mass index for most female students was standard, about 60.97%, and 41.46% of female students were CED. Counselling and health information were also provided holistically to increase the girls' understanding of their health status.

Abstract

Introduction: Impaired cognitive function causes significant impairment in schizophrenic patients. Studies result found that inflammatory processes in the brain play an important role in cognitive decline in schizophrenia. One of the inflammatory markers associated with cognitive function in schizophrenia is serum Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) levels. TNF-α levels can be influenced by genetic and racial factors.   Objective: This study aims to analyze the correlation between cognitive function and TNF-α serum levels in schizophrenic patients in Indonesia. Methods: This study is an analytical study using a cross-sectional design in 34 schizophrenic patients who were hospitalized in the Mental Hospital of West Java Province. Patients with risk of inflammation and cognitive impairment are excluded. Cognitive function was assessed using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), Digit Span and Trail Making Test. TNF-α serum levels were measured using the Sandwitch-ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay) method. Results: Study participants showed a cognitive deficit in all examination instruments. The TNF-α serum levels of the participants increased (mean: 8.93 ± 3.43). TNF-α serum levels was not significantly correlated with cognitive function. Conclusion: There is no significant correlation exist between cognitive function and TNF-α serum levels in schizophrenia. Keywords: Schizophrenia, cognitive function, TNF-α

ABSTRACT Introduction: The incidence of suicide among adolescents and young adults is on the rise, including in Indonesia. COVID-19 pandemic has created a global crisis situation, increasing the risk of individuals contemplating ending their lives. Sociodemographic characteristics of adolescents and young adults are important factors to consider in relation to their vulnerability to suicidal ideation. Aim: This study aims to examine the correlation between sociodemographic characteristics and serious suicidal ideation among adolescents and young adults. Methods: This research employed a cross-sectional study involving 1,508 high school students and 526 university students in Bandung and its surrounding areas. Participants completed a questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics and the Suicide Ideation Scale (SIS) through online guidance (Zoom meeting). The research findings were analyzed using t-Test on variables consisting of 2 groups and ANOVA test for variables consisting of more than 2 groups followed by Tukey's HSD post-hoc test. Results: The study found that female (p<0.001), respondents' education as a student (p<0.05), parental education as a diploma and bachelor’s degree (p<0.05), and parental separation (p<0.001) were correlated with the presence of serious suicidal ideation among both adolescents and young adults. Discussion: Sociodemographic characteristics correlating with serious suicidal ideation were gender, respondents' education level, parental education level, and parental marital status. Further research is needed to understand various suicide risk factors in adolescents and young adults in Indonesia, including biological, psychosocial, and cultural factors.
