Abstract

Writing is one of the four aspects of language skills that a person must possess. Using writing, someone can generate interesting ideas and pour them into writing. Writing descriptive paragraphs is also one of the lessons that the school student finds difficult to understand; the mind mapping method is applied to see how the technique influences writing students, especially in the description text. This study aims to examine the import of image media-based mind mapping on the fourth-semester students' skills in writing descriptive text paragraphs. The subjects are fourth-grade students at STIKOM Tunas Bangsa. The research adopts a mixed-methods framework, merging qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine the intervention’s outcomes comprehensively. The quantitative component includes pre-tests and post-tests to assess improvements in students' descriptive writing skills before and after the intervention of image media-based mind-mapping. The qualitative component consists of classroom observations, student feedback, and analysis of written assignments to capture students' experiences and perceptions of the technique. Results indicate that the image media-based mind mapping technique significantly enhances students' ability to generate ideas, organize their writing, and incorporate detailed descriptions. The study highlights the effectiveness of combining visual media with mind mapping to improve descriptive writing, suggesting that this approach offers a valuable tool for educators aiming to enhance student's writing proficiency where students view mind mapping positively, nothing its effectiveness in highlighting critical information from the textbook and simplifying the process of understanding details.

Abstract

This research was conducted to increase students’active involvement in their speaking ability by using the Think-Pair-Share Technique. The researcher wanted to find out whether or not Think-Pair-Share Technique can increase the students speaking skill and to analyze the classroom situation when the Think-Pair-Share Technique is implemented in speaking class. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) and composed for two or more cycles then it observed and evaluated to identify all facts including the success and the failure of the action. It means that the action should be stopped or continued and revised to the next cycle based on the selected criteria of success. After the implementation of Think-Pair-Share Technique in every cycle, the students’ speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students averagescore Cycle 1 was 65.17 and Cycle 2 was 74.81. It can be concluded that Think-Pair-Share Technique canincrease students’active involvement in their speaking ability.

Abstract

This research aims to apply The Scientific Approach-Based English Learning Strategy (SABELS) on the students’ ability in comprehending text fourth semester students of STIKOM Tunas Bangsa. This research is descriptive qualitative, because the researcher used descriptive method to analize the data and the data are in the form of word. This research conducted in STIKOM Tunas Bangsa Pematangsiantar. The researcher used three techniques to collecting the data. Those are observation, interview and study document. The researcher did two observations in class. The subject of the interview is the teacher as implementer the teaching learning process. The research findings are (1) the Implementation of the Scientific Approach in the Teaching of Reading Comprehension to the fourth semester students at STIKOM Tunas Bangsa was good, because was appropriate with the regulation, (2) in applying scientific approach, the teacher used five phase, those are observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating. The teacher used authentic assessment in the evaluation. Based on the second meeting, the English teacher uses writing test to assess the cognitive aspect of the students. Finally, by knowing the result, it is better if English teachers apply the SABELS to improve the students’ achievement.

Abstract

This research is based on the urgency of utilizing technology in education, which has now become a necessity rather than relying on traditional methods that are still widely used in teaching information systems students. In the context of using English as a global communication tool in the digital era, conventional teaching approaches are considered less effective in keeping up with the rapid development of information. Therefore, this study explores the implication of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based learning media in improving students’ speaking skills through Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) at STIKOM Tunas Bangsa. The research employs a qualitative –descriptive method involving fourth-semester students who actively use AI-powered mobile applications, such as speech recognition and virtual conversation tools. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and observations to captured students’ perspectives on the effectiveness, accessibility, and challenges of using AI in language learning. Findings reveal that most students perceive AI-based media as motivating and helpful in enhancing pronunciation, fluency and confidence. Additionally , this study provides insights into the sociolinguistic evolution of language use by examining how students interact with technological advancements and adapt to global communication demands. The results suggest that AI-integrated MALL can significantly support speaking skill development and create a more personalized, effective, and engaging learning environment.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of Flash Card media to improve early childhood Alphabet and Spelling Vocabulary recognition in reading English at PAUD ADIAN Jaya Karang Sari. This study used qualitative method. The participants in this study were all students of “Class A” PAUD ADIAN Jaya Karang Sari. The result of study on Effectiveness of Flash Card Media to improve the early childhood English Letter and vocabulary recognition in reading English show the implementation of Flash Card. The researchershowed some vocabulary in front of the student by the Flash Card. First, the researcher showed some picture in Flash card, then the researcher mention some vocabulary spell it in the flash card in English. Data was collected by interview and observation sheet. In interview, the researcher invited all the students to mention some vocabulary and student spell it in front of the class. In observation, the researcher makes some quiz about the vocabulary. The researcher showed the flash card. Then make a score for the students that can answer the words and spell it. This research give the implication how to important media learning for early childhood to study English.

Abstract

Language is a tool of communication that all human use, such as oral/spoken, gesture and written. As a tool for communicating, language has an important role to convey information, intentions, ideas, or opinions in daily life. People in Indonesia do not only use Bahasa Indonesia but they also use the local language or the ethnic language and how those languages are used in daily life and how those languages are placed in certain situations. This study will focus on a variety Simalungun language use in everyday family conversation. This study is a requirement of all to learn and to use language and to enrich the knowledge of the language. When people meet or talk with native speakers of Parapat, not only can they enjoy the meeting and talks but also they can understand Simalungun language. the writer uses qualitative research methods, by collecting and analyzing data related to the topics analyzed. The writer, when collecting data, used interviews, reviewed literature, quoted several related books, the online resources and some related resources. Descriptive analytic method was applied for the selected data and analysis. Based on the analysis why the language use occurs in Simalungun family, that‟s because there is different order of birth with the others in family members, gender between the speaker and the opponent talk, and close relationship with people outside the family member.

Abstract

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information objectively and logically, forming reasoned judgements. It is one of very necessary skills to traine to second semester students of Stikom Tunas Bangsa in the afternoon session class. Research-based learning (RBL) presents as an alternative learning model that can develop the critical thinking skills. This study aims at describing the effect of the implementation to the research-based learning (RBL) to develop fourth semester students’ critical thinking skills. Qualitative approach was used in the classroon research. The participants in this study consisted of 106 students. Data were collected using observation and test. The results of the research indicate that the implementation research-based learning (RBL) can develop critical thinking skills. It is proved by the fact that the students were able to show their interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference and explanation abilities. Meanwhile, aspect of self-regulation ability has not yet been able to be found. This research were used to make more sure previous research that implementation of the RBL can improve the quality learning process and make positive changes for the students in the intellectual and emotional. This research provides a different learning experience which can develop critical thinking skill.
