Abstract

Low back pain, also called LBP, is a very common issue that affects people who do a lot of standing or lifting work. One way to treat it without surgery is called TENS, which stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. This treatment uses small electrical impulses to help block pain signals in the body, based on the gate control theory of how pain works. When TENS is used along with stretching exercises, it helps even more with reducing pain and improving movement and function. This research is a review of existing studies. The search looked through PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for studies published in the last five years. The studies had to be randomized controlled trials, or RCTs, which are a strong type of study. The results show that using TENS and stretching together helps a lot with reducing pain, making the lower back more flexible, improving range of motion, and helping people feel less disabled. Most of the studies had results that were statistically significant, with p values less than 0.05. Using TENS for 20 to 30 minutes, about 3 to 5 times a week, and doing stretching exercises for 4 to 6 weeks, gives the best results for people with So, putting together TENS and stretching is a good way to help reduce pain and make it easier for people to do daily activities.

Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a pathological condition that attacks the joints, causing pain, immobility, and decreased quality of life. Physical exercise is one intervention that can be used. This review reviews and compares various types of exercise, such as strength training, aerobic, gradual programs, controlled weight training, and their impact on pain, knee function, and quality of life in knee OA patients. This study analyzed several Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) studies that evaluated the effects of structured exercise in knee OA patients. Each study is 6 to 12 weeks long, with follow-up evaluations up to 1 year. Data were compared based on study design, type of intervention, measurement tools (such as WOMAC, KOOS, SF-36), and primary clinical outcomes. All studies show that physical exercise can significantly reduce pain, improve muscle strength, joint function and quality of life. Regular and structured exercise has been proven to be effective, safe, and worthy of being used as the main intervention in the management of knee OA. A digital, incremental approach can be a modern solution that increases patient engagement and success.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis of the genu is a degenerative musculoskeletal disorder that often causes knee pain, joint stiffness, and decreased ability to perform daily activities. One non-pharmacological method applied in physiotherapy to reduce pain in this condition is massage. Massage therapy functions by stimulating soft tissue, which increases blood flow, reduces muscle tension, and decreases pain perception through neuromuscular mechanisms. This study is a literature review using the PICO approach in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases, with the criteria of Randomized Controlled Trial articles published in the last five years. Six journals found that meet the criteria and show that massage is proven effective in reducing pain intensity, improving joint stiffness, and improving knee function in patients with osteoarthritis of the genu. Massage performed for 15 to 30 minutes, with a frequency of 2 to 3 times a week for 4 to 6 weeks, produces optimal results. It can be concluded that massage is an effective and safe non-invasive therapy to reduce pain and improve function in patients with osteoarthritis of the genu.

Abstract

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a muscle and bone disorder caused by pressure on the median nerve in the carpal tunnel area. Decreased hand function, pain, and numbness are common symptoms. A PICO literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2021 and 2025 was used to determine the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy in reducing pain and improving hand function in CTS patients. Ten international journals were eligible for the study. The results showed that, compared with other treatment methods, ultrasound therapy, both ultrasound-assisted and conventional, reduced pain and improved hand function. These results suggest that ultrasound therapy is an effective physiotherapy method for CTS patients.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints affecting the spinal region and can significantly interfere with daily activities while reducing long-term functional capacity. Management strategies targeting myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) often require safe and effective physiotherapeutic approaches. One technique that has been widely investigated is dry needling (DN), which involves inserting a fine needle into the MTrP to elicit a local twitch response that may reduce pain and improve muscle performance. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of DN in reducing pain and enhancing function in patients with non-specific low back pain, based on ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2020 and 2024. Data were obtained from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The findings indicate that DN significantly decreases pain intensity, increases pressure pain threshold (PPT), and improves disability scores (ODI). The therapeutic effects of DN are greater when combined with core stabilization exercises or spinal manipulation therapy. DN is also considered safe, with only minor and transient adverse effects such as localized soreness.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal problems and can lead to limited activity and reduced quality of life. This condition is often experienced by individuals whose jobs involve sitting for long periods, poor ergonomic work postures, or excessive physical activity. One non-invasive physical therapy method commonly used to reduce LBP pain is Infra Red (IR). IR works by producing superficial heat that can improve blood flow, reduce muscle spasms, and lower pain sensitivity. In addition, providing exercise or therapeutic workouts aims to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and lumbar stability. Combining Infra Red with exercise is expected to provide more effective results in managing LBP. This study is a literature review conducted using the PICO approach to search databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The articles used are Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) published in the last five years. The review results show that applying Infra Red combined with exercise significantly reduces pain intensity, improves flexibility of the lower back muscles, increases range of motion (ROM), and enhances functional ability in patients with LBP. Applying Infra Red for 15–20 minutes combined with regular exercise for 4–6 weeks provides optimal results for patients with non-specific LBP. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that combining Infra Red and exercise is effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with Low Back Pain.

Abstract

Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) is a musculoskeletal condition that commonly affects the upper trapezius muscle, causing pain and limitations in daily activities. Physiotherapy, particularly exercise-based programs, plays a significant role in managing this condition. A literature review of experimental studies and randomized controlled trials indicates that regular exercise is effective in reducing pain, increasing range of motion, and improving functional outcomes. Exercises targeting the neck and shoulder muscles have been shown to reduce trigger point sensitivity and enhance local blood circulation. Furthermore, exercise programs demonstrate effectiveness comparable to other physiotherapy interventions. Therefore, exercise therapy can be considered a safe and effective non-pharmacological approach for the management of upper trapezius Myofascial Pain Syndrome.

Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common median nerve compression neuropathy that causes pain, tingling, and impaired hand function. Various conservative approaches have been used, including ultrasound therapy, nerve-gliding exercises, phonophoresis, and ultrasound-guided injection techniques. This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of ultrasound-based interventions in the management of mild to moderate CTS. Methods: This review analyzed eight Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) studies published between 2021 and 2025. The literature sources were obtained from international journals indexed in Scopus (Q1–Q3). The evaluated outcome parameters included pain (VAS), hand function (BCTQ-SSS/FSS), nerve conduction (ENMG, DML, SNCV), and median nerve cross-sectional area (CSA). Results: Most studies reported that ultrasound-based interventions—either as a therapeutic modality (underwater ultrasound, phonophoresis, or combined with exercise) or as guidance for injection procedures (hydrodissection and transverse carpal ligament release)—produced significant improvements in symptoms and hand function. The combination of ultrasound with splinting and exercise therapy yielded superior outcomes compared to single-modality treatment. Ultrasound-guided hydrodissection also demonstrated improvements in nerve parameters and symptom reduction in the medium term (6–12 months). Conclusion: Ultrasound therapy is effective, safe, and relevant as both a conservative and minimally invasive interventional approach for managing mild to moderate CTS. Its combination with exercise or nerve-gliding techniques enhances clinical and electrophysiological outcomes.
