Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity of school members in implementing the Environmental Care and Culture Movement in Schools (GPBLHS) at SMP Al-Fatah Terboyo, Semarang City. The program was motivated by low environmental awareness and the high amount of single-use plastic waste within the school environment. The methods included training for teachers on integrating environmental themes into the curriculum, socialization of plastic waste reduction, and facilitation of reusable tumbler use among school members. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-tests to measure behavioral changes and waste reduction. The results indicated improved teacher competence in developing environmentally themed lesson plans and a decrease in inorganic waste volume from 30.9 kg to 3.8 kg after the program. This activity demonstrates that environmental education through curriculum integration and behavioral facilitation effectively supports Adiwiyata school initiatives toward sustainable and environmentally conscious schools.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance community capacity for flood disaster mitigation in Tambakrejo Village, Semarang City, through strengthening the management of the Early Warning System (EWS). Tambakrejo is a coastal area vulnerable to floods and tidal inundation due to land subsidence and sea level rise. The main problems include low community preparedness and suboptimal management of the existing EWS. The implementation method involved training, mentoring, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the local Disaster Preparedness Group (KSB) as the main partner, carried out through stages of socialization, capacity building, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed improved knowledge and skills of KSB members in operating and maintaining the EWS device, along with the creation of a management SOP serving as an operational guide at the community level. This activity demonstrates that community capacity building through participatory and technology-based approaches can strengthen disaster mitigation systems and enhance community preparedness against flood risks in coastal areas.

Abstract

The Omah Sawah community focuses on environment-based education for children aged 7-13 years. One of the activities is a weekly school held at the Omah Sawah Pavilion every weekend. Activities include environmental observation, flora-fauna identification, yoga, natural batik dyeing introduction, and writing. The limited skills of facilitators, consisting of teenage alumni of Omah Sawah, in innovating learning, and the lack of supporting facilities at Omah Sawah pose challenges. One alternative to enhance learning innovation and instructor skills is by introducing and studying Photovoice. This community service began with preparation, including permission requests and field surveys, followed by curriculum development training using the Photovoice method through lectures and practice. Evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test methods. The results showed an increase in participants' knowledge of the Photovoice method and its use in environmental education.

Abstract

Tambakrejo Village faces complex environmental issues, such as waste accumulation and flooding. This is exacerbated by the low awareness among the community regarding waste management and environmental preservation. To address these challenges, the Environmental Education Movement in Schools was initiated as an implementation of school-based environmental education. The program aims to encourage and develop environmentally conscious and culturally aware schools that are capable of participating in and implementing efforts to preserve the environment within the framework of sustainable development. The PBLHS (Environmental Education Movement) at SMP Al-Fattah, Tambakrejo Village, Semarang City, is supported by Saka Energi Muriah Limited and Semarang State University, and includes the following activities: (1) socialization, (2) preparation of the Learning Program Plan (RPP), (3) training of Adiwiyata cadres, (4) integration of PBLHS into the curriculum, (5) implementation of PBLHS, (6) provision of facilities and infrastructure, and (7) monitoring and evaluation. The results of the activities show an increase in students' awareness of waste and energy management, as well as the development of environmentally friendly habits at the school through intracurricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. The development of facilities such as waste sorting stations, environmental posters, and the formation of Adiwiyata cadres strengthens the role of students as agents of change within the school and the surrounding community. The implementation of PBLHS at SMP Al-Fattah has successfully instilled environmental preservation values in students and fostered environmentally conscious character.
