Abstract

In learning English, vocabulary is one of the language aspects and is the most important component as a communication tool that students must master as a basis for mastering English. Vocabulary means basic knowledge and useful material in the form of words that are always used by students in learning a particular language. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of using the fly swatter game on the learning and vocabulary mastery of class XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Metro. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The researcher used the fly swatter game as a teaching technique in the experimental class, while the conventional teaching technique will used in the controlled class. The results of the study using hypothesis testing show that the first test uses a significance level of 5% or a significance level of 0.05. sig. (2-tailed). The t-count (1.420) is lower than the t-table (2,000) with a significance of (0.165) > 0.05. Therefore, it can be said that teaching English vocabulary mastery using the Fly Swatter Game is effective but not significant.

The study focuses on the use of Padlet as a digital tool to improve students' personal letter-writing skills. The purpose of this research is to determine whether Padlet significantly improves students' writing scores and affects their overall writing abilities. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group was employed. The participants were grade XI students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekalongan, divided into an experimental class using Padlet and a control class using the conventional method. The research used writing tests as the main instrument, assessed through five aspects: content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, then analyzed using t-tests to determine statistical significance. The findings show that students taught using Padlet scored higher in all aspects of writing, indicating a significant improvement and positive effect on their writing skills. It can be concluded that Padlet is an effective medium for enhancing writing quality and student engagement. This research suggests that teachers should consider integrating interactive digital tools, such as Padlet, into writing instruction to overcome challenges and boost students' motivation and performance.

Most used in code mixing research, (4) what are the subjects of code mixing research used from 2015 – 2022, (5) what are the data sources used in code mixing research, and (6) what are examples of code sentence mixing of any code mixing research.Qualitative descriptive is the method used in this study. The instrument of this research is documentation, where all the articles that have been found are then downloaded and analysed using the content analysis method. From the use of these data analysis methods and techniques, the research found that there were ten articles on code-mixing from 2015 – 2022. The ten articles came from journals at SINTA levels 2, 3, 4, and 5. The most common type of code-mixing mainly used is word insertion. Subjects, objects, and data sources in code mixing research are divided into two categories: public figures on social media and students. An example of a sentence in code mixing research is "Berpakaian fashionable dan bermerk". This research has a significant impact on future researchers because this research has produced findings that are useful in expanding knowledge and improving the quality of thinking, especially in code-mixing. Most importantly, it is hoped that what has been done will provide a better understanding for future researchers. The researcher suggests that the types of code mixing found the least, such as insertion of elements and idioms insertion, should be studied more by other researchers.

Abstract

Speaking is the ability to communicate in everyday life, and achieving fluency in a specific language is a primary goal in language learning. In the context of speaking, self-confidence stands out as a crucial factor that can either contribute to success or hinder progress in language acquisition. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate whether the level of students' self-confidence correlates positively with the speaking skills of tenth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. The research sample consisted of 40 tenth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro, selected through purposive sampling. Two types of instruments were employed to collect data from two variables, utilizing questionnaires and a speaking test. In analyzing the data, the researcher correlated the results of the questionnaire with the results of the speaking test using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The computed result of the correlation coefficient (r count) was 0.194. This value indicates a positive correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability. Specifically, the Pearson correlation places the result within the 0.00–0.20 range, signifying a very low correlation between the two variables. Thus, it suggests that students need to maintain their confidence while also improving their speaking ability to speak fluently and accurately.
