Abstract

In South Sulawesi, justice in polygamy is not merely a matter of law—it is a living dialogue between divine principles and ancestral wisdom. This study explores how local wisdom, particularly the adat system, serves as a foundational pillar of justice in the practice of polygamy under Islamic law. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research draws on interviews and document analysis involving religious leaders, community elders and affected families. The findings reveal that while Islamic law provides the formal legal framework, local customs deeply influence its interpretation and implementation. Adat norms ensure that polygamy is practiced with fairness, emphasizing the equitable treatment of wives, fulfillment of economic responsibilities and preservation of familial harmony. These traditions act as a moral compass, guiding the community to uphold justice in ways that resonate with their social values. Rather than conflicting with Islamic principles, local wisdom complements them—creating a hybrid system that is both legally sound and culturally sensitive. The study concludes that integrating local wisdom into formal legal structures can enhance the contextual relevance and social legitimacy of family law. It recommends a pluralistic approach to justice that honors both religious doctrine and indigenous knowledge, fostering a more humane and balanced legal practice.

Abstract

This research article discusses the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (hereafter abbreviated as IRE) with a multicultural perspective at the High School (SMA) of PIRI 1 Yogyakarta. This study is field research with a qualitative approach. The data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews. The results of this study indicated that: First, IRE learning at SMA PIRI 1 Yogyakarta has matched the criteria of IRE with a multicultural perspective because SMA PIRI 1 Yogyakarta has: (1) created a diverse academic environment; (2) engaged multicultural IRE’s teachers; (3) made IRE learning fun, inclusive, and inspiring. Second, IRE learning with a multicultural perspective taught at SMA PIRI 1 Yogyakarta can change students. This change involves their mindset and understanding of students and students' behavior towards different Islamic groups and followers of other religions. Another finding was that teaching IRE at SMA PIRI 1 Yogyakarta applied a principle of rahmatan lil alamin, which was illustrated by the teacher’s behavior and the diversity in teaching staff in the school. Last but not least, this is quite different from learning in the past, in which they were unfairly prejudiced against followers of other religions.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Pendidikan Agama Islam, ekologi, lingkungan, bencana alam Abstract: This article describes the significance of Islamic Religious Education’s ecological perspective. The Indonesian is known as a religious country. Unfortunately, the behavior of most of its inhabitants is not religious. One indicator is the ecological damage in this country which is getting worse. This ecological damage caused a series of natural disasters. Ironically, a series of natural disasters that often afflict the Indonesian nation does not arouse the awareness of its citizens to immediately treat nature well. To foster ecological awareness of the community can be done by implementing an Islamic Religious Education’s ecological perspective. It does not have to be carried out by creating separate subjects or courses, but it can be carried out integrally with Islamic Religious Education subjects/courses. In it implementation, there are several elements that must be considered. These elements are: an ecologically charged curriculum, the availability of educators who have ecological awareness and knowledge, learning resources/materials with ecological insight, learning methods and media that can foster ecological awareness, and evaluation of ecological based education. Keywords: Islamic Religious Education, ecology, environment, natural disaster

Abstract

This article examines the political wisdom and contributions of K.H. A. Wachid Hasjim in the formulation of Indonesia’s state foundation and constitution during the BPUPK and PPKI sessions. Drawing on a qualitative, historical–descriptive approach using documentary research, this study analyzes primary sources—including the BPUPK and PPKI deliberations, writings of Wachid Hasjim, and constitutional documents—as well as secondary scholarly works. The findings show that despite being a strong advocate for Islam as the basis of the state, K.H. A. Wachid Hasyim demonstrated remarkable magnanimity by accepting the removal of the Jakarta Charter and several Islamic formulations in the 1945 Constitution for the sake of national unity. This study argues that Hasjim's thought represents a 'symbiotic paradigm' rooted not merely in political compromise but in a substantive understanding of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) that prioritizes public good (maslahah). His approach reflects a broader principle that Pancasila, as a compromise-oriented and accommodating state ideology, provides a framework that guarantees religious freedom while maintaining national cohesion. The study highlights the relevance of his political wisdom in contemporary Indonesia, where political and religious elites often succumb to pragmatism, egoism, and intolerance, contributing to social and religious conflicts. Emulating K.H. A. Wachid Hasyim’s inclusive and tolerant leadership can serve as a model for fostering national unity and harmonious religious coexistence in Indonesia’s pluralistic society.

Abstract

This article aims to critically examine the concept of deep learning and its significance, urgency, and implementation in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at public universities, including the associated challenges and pedagogical implications. This study employs library research design. Data were collected through a critical review of primary and secondary sources, including academic books and journal articles addressing deep learning, higher education pedagogy, and contemporary Islamic education. The findings indicate that deep learning represents a relevant and strategic pedagogical approach in IRE, as it is capable of holistically integrating cognitive, affective, and ethical dimensions of learning. The implementation of deep learning through problem-based learning, critical-reflective discussions, and the utilization of digital technologies contribute to the enhancement of IRE learning quality, making it more meaningful, contextual, and transformative. Despite facing structural, cultural, and pedagogical challenges, this approach demonstrates significant implications for strengthening students’ character development, ethical awareness, and religious moderation. The novelty of this article lies in its conceptual integration of the deep learning paradigm in higher education with the normative–substantive objectives of Islamic Religious Education in public universities, thereby offering an alternative pedagogical framework that is relevant to the Islamic context and the challenges of modern education.
