Abstract

Extension training on potted vegetable cultivation (tasapot) and transplanting techniques is one effort to support urban farming as an agricultural solution in urban areas. This activity was carried out at the Kapasari Indah Farmers Group, Surabaya, with the aim of improving farmers' understanding and skills in potted vegetable cultivation and transplanting techniques to support food security. The method used was participatory-based extension, which included lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. To measure the effectiveness of this activity, a pre-test was conducted before the extension and a post-test afterward. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, with an average pre-test score of 22.73 increasing to 88.18 in the post-test, with an average difference of 65.45 points. This indicates that extension training combined with hands-on practice can improve farmers' skills in potted vegetable cultivation and transplanting techniques. Although this activity went well, there were several obstacles such as the limited duration of the extension and the limited tools and materials available to participants. Therefore, further mentoring and support for facilities are needed so that this method can be implemented sustainably in urban agriculture to support food security.

Abstract

This community service aims to empower workers at the Reuse, Reduce, Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS3R located in Baratan Village, Arjasa District, Jember Regency) by utilizing residual waste into organic fertilizer through the production of Local Microorganisms (MOL) from banana stems. The methods used are counseling, demonstration of methods, and mentoring. The results of the activity show that TPS3R Baratan workers are able to produce MOL from banana stems independently using easily obtained materials such as banana stems, rice washing water, and palm sugar. Banana stems contain nutrients and decomposing microbes such as Bacillus sp., Aeromonas sp., and Aspergillus niger which are effective in decomposing residual waste. The use of MOL from banana stems as a solution to reduce residual waste accumulation is expected to increase the independence of TPS3R Baratan workers and support sustainable waste management.

Abstract

The decline in rice productivity in Tegalsari Village, Ambulu District, Jember Regency, demonstrates the need for a more sustainable agricultural system. Farmers' dependence on chemical fertilizers and the limited availability of subsidized fertilizers encourage the development of organic fertilizers as an alternative to improve soil quality and maintain sustainable production. However, the adoption rate of organic fertilizers among farmers remains relatively low despite the significant potential of livestock waste. This situation requires the active role of agricultural extension workers. This study aims to analyze the role of agricultural extension workers in the application of organic fertilizers in the Harapan Makmur Farmers Group. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research informants consisted of 16 individuals, comprising one agricultural extension worker and fifteen farmers, who were selected purposively. Data collection was conducted through moderate observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis model, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the research data was tested through source and technique triangulation. The research results show that agricultural extension workers play a role in education, innovation dissemination, facilitation, consultation, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation in encouraging the adoption of organic fertilizers. This role has been able to improve farmers' knowledge and skills, although adoption rates vary and are uneven. However, the role of consultation and evaluation has not been optimal. Limited consultation intensity and the lack of measurable evaluation data hinder the role of extension workers in optimizing the sustainable application of organic fertilizers.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented in Gumelar Village, Balung District, Jember Regency, to increase community knowledge of stunting prevention through the innovation of PMT (Supplementary Feeding) based on local food processing from Moringa leaves. The program was implemented by 100 students participating in a collaborative community service program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata – KKN). The program implementation method used the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach across three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Activities included community outreach of stunting prevention with balanced nutrition, interactive discussions, and demonstrations on how to make the innovative product "Morice" (moringa leaf ice cream). A total of 31 mothers' health cadres and 9 fathers participated in this activity. The implementation results indicated increased knowledge and awareness of children's nutrition, as reflected in their enthusiasm during the discussion and active involvement in the product demonstration. The innovation of moringa leaf ice cream was able to attract public attention as a healthy food alternative that children like while contributing to stunting prevention efforts. Thus, the collaboration between students, health workers, and Posyandu cadres has been proven to have a positive impact on increasing public nutrition awareness and has the potential to reduce stunting prevalence sustainably. It is recommended that similar programs be replicated in other villages and accompanied by long-term monitoring to ensure sustainable improvements in children's nutritional status.

Abstract

Dynamics of the Wana Agung Sejahtera Farmer Group in Rejoagung Village, Sumberwringin Sub-District, Bondowoso Regency. This research aims to analyze the dynamics of the Wana Agung Sejahtera Farmer Group in Rejoagung Village, Sumberwringin Sub-district, Bondowoso Regency. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, grounded in the theory of Johnson and Johnson. Informants were selected purposively, and data were obtained through in-depth interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed using the method by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results describe the dynamics of the Wana Agung Sejahtera Farmers Group in terms of 7 key elements: group goals, group communication, leadership, decision-making, power utilization, creativity, and conflict management. Two elements show dynamics, namely creativity and power utilization. The element of power utilization in the aspect of group norms includes an unwritten rule regarding member attendance in group activities. The consequence is that members are reprimanded by other members and may receive punishment in the form of social sanctions, such as being ignored or subtly criticized during activities. The creativity element in the aspect of developing creativity demonstrates that the Wana Agung Sejahtera Farmers Group, which initially had limited knowledge about proper coffee cultivation and market access, has now acquired the necessary knowledge and is able to develop creativity in terms of proper coffee cultivation and market access.
