Abstract

Hydration status plays a pivotal role in maintaining athlete performance, especially in endurance sports such as triathlon, which involve prolonged and intense physical exertion. This study aimed to analyze the hydration status of Indonesian triathlon athletes undergoing national training in preparation for the 2025 SEA Games. Using a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 10 purposively selected athletes. Instruments included Omron Karada Scan for anthropometric assessment and urine test strips with color charts to evaluate hydration levels pre- and post-time trial. Results showed that 90% of athletes experienced weight loss averaging 0.8–0.9 kg, indicating fluid loss. Urine analysis revealed that 50% of athletes were mildly dehydrated, 30% adequately hydrated, and 20% well hydrated. One athlete showed increased body weight with a light urine color, suggesting effective fluid intake. These findings highlight the need for tailored hydration strategies and regular monitoring during training to minimize dehydration risks and support optimal performance. Coaches and sports health professionals are advised to incorporate hydration management protocols into daily training regimens for triathletes.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine and compare the effectiveness of Brain Endurance Training (BET) and Motor Cognitive Training (MCT) using the Switched On Training application in enhancing dynamic decision-making ability among karate kumite athletes. A quantitative experimental method was employed with a Randomized Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design with Matched Subjects. The sample consisted of 30 cadet-junior kumite athletes (aged 14-17 years) homogeneously divided into three groups (BET, MCT, and Control) based on gender and weight class classifications. Static decision-making (decision-making traits) was measured using the Decision Style Questionnaire (DSQ), while dynamic decision-making was evaluated through recorded kumite match simulation, analyzed according to a standardized rubric. The results showed: (1) the participants' baseline cognitive profile was consistently dominated by Brooding (BET = 13,73; MCT = 12,64), Confident (BET = 13,73; Control = 13,00), and Spontaneous (BET = 12,55; MCT = 12,09) dimensions, with decision anxiety levels ranging from low to moderate; (2) for dynamic decision-making, the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test showed a statistically significant difference in overall Gain Score effectiveness across groups (Sig. = 0,003); (3) post-hoc Mann-Whitney U tests with Bonferroni Correction confirmed that the BET method was significantly superior to the control group (Sig. = 0,001); and (4) the MCT method showed no significant difference compared to the control group (Sig. = 0,200), while the comparison between BET and MCT indicated a trend favoring the BET group (Sig. = 0,053). It can be concluded that although athletes possess a baseline static decision style that is predominantly confident and spontaneous, Brain Endurance Training is the most effective intervention for maintaining the stability and effectiveness of attacking decisions in kumite athletes under conditions of mental fatigue. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of plyometric training on mawashi geri kick speed among junior kumite karate athletes at SESKO AU Lembang karate club. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 20 athletes selected through purposive sampling technique. The treatment, consisting of plyometric exercises converted into the mawashi geri kick movement pattern, was given for six weeks with a frequency of three times per week. Kick speed was measured using a video analysis-based test instrument (Kinovea application) before and after the treatment. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for hypothesis testing, and Cohen's d effect size calculation. The results showed that the average kick time decreased from 0.4465 seconds to 0.3738 seconds, with all samples (100%) experiencing an increase in speed. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of -3.921 and Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect, with Cohen's d = 1.14 (large category). These findings show that plyometric training is effective in increasing mawashi geri kick speed, and can therefore be recommended as part of a physical training program for junior kumite karate athletes.
