Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan pengawetan kayu terhadap kecepatan gelombang ultrasonik, sifat mekanis lentur kayu, dan kekuatan tekan sejajar serat kayu. Kayu yang digunakan adalah jenis Acacia mangium yang diketahui mulai banyak digunakan karena kekuatannya yang yang cukup baik (kelas kuat II-III) tetapi memiliki keawetan alami yang cukup rendah (kelas awet II-III). Bahan pengawet yang digunakan adalah CCB (chrome, copper, boron) dengan konsentrasi 4%, 7%, 10% dan metode yang diapikasikan adalah rendaman dingin dan vakum tekan. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa metode vakum tekan berpengaruh secara nyata menurunkan nilai kecepatan gelombang ultrasonik, kekuatan lentur, dan tekan sejajar serat kayu tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap nilai modulus elastisitas kayu. Konsentrasi bahan pengawet berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap nilai retensi dan penetrasi bahan pengawet tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap kecepatan gelombang ultrasonik dan sifat mekanis di atas. Kecepatan gelombang ultrasonik melalui nilai MOE dinamis yang diperoleh memiliki koefisien korelasi yang baik untuk menduga nilai modulus elastisitas statis dan kekuatan kayu.Abstract. This paper presents the results of a study that investigated the effect of preservation treatment on ultrasonic velocity, bending strength and compressive strength parallel to grain. Acacia mangium wood which has moderate strength and low-moderate natural durability were used in this study. Retention and penetration of preservative compound on wood as well as ultrasonic velocity and mechanical properties were determined as impact of using three concentrations of waterborne preservatives CCB (chrome, copper, boron) and two preservation methods (cold-dipping and pressure-vacuum). The result showed that pressure-vacuum method significantly reduced ultrasonic velocity, bending strength and compressive strength parallel to grain of wood, but no significance influence on modulus of elasticity (MOE). Meanwhile, concentrations of preservative compounds were no significance effect on those properties except on retention and penetration. Ultrasonic velocity through dynamic MOE had close correlation to predict static MOE and wood strength.

Abstract

Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap faktor-faktor penyebab kecemasan pada mahasiswa dasar Bahasa Inggris dan mendeskripsikan bagaimana pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think-pair-share membantu mereka dalam mengatasi kecemasan mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi kasus. Pesertanya adalah enam mahasiswa yang mengikuti program speaking selama satu bulan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen observasi, wawancara, dan angket. Data dianalisis melalui tiga langkah, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi sebagai analisis kerangka kualitatif yang dikembangkan oleh Miles dan Huberman. Hasilnya sebagai berikut: (1) ada enam faktor signifikan yang menyebabkan siswa mengalami kecemasan, (2) penekanan pembelajaran kooperatif melalui dua aspek berbicara mendapat tanggapan positif dari berbagai kalangan meskipun salah satu aspek yang ditekankan kurang berdampak. Rekomendasi yang paling penting adalah siswa harus memiliki keinginan yang besar dalam belajar bahasa Inggris terutama dalam pembelajaran berbicara dan guru harus memotivasi siswa dan menerapkan pembelajaran jenis ini ketika mengajar berbicara

Abstract

The objectives of this research is to explore how far students' emotional engangement when learning speaking using the role play method. This research is a qualitative research. The sample of this research is five students from eight grade of Junior High School in Karawang. The data were gathered by using observasion and interview. The data were analysed by thematic analysis. The findings showed that students have positive emotional engangement such as enjoyment, happiness, and confidence. Students also experience negative emotions such as boredom, frustration, and anxiety. In conclusion, positive emotional engangement in students indicates that students still have the desire and enthusiasm in facing difficulties during the learning process so that they are able to more understand the learning material. Negative emotional involvement indicates the lack of interest in students towards learning processes and materials, so it makes students difficult to focus and understand learning material.

Abstract

Quality education can improve the quality of human resources. Moral education for students is essential to improve their quality of life. Moral learning in the ELT context can help students to develop their personality and positive relationships with others. Consequently, the researcher aims to examine the moral values in the English learning textbook "English for Nusantara," designed for 7th-grade students. This study employs a qualitative approach, employing a content analysis design for its methodology. This research was conducted using the moral criteria proposed by Michele Borba. The results showed that all components of moral values appeared in the students' textbooks. The most dominant moral learning is about self-control representing 28.36%, while the lowest moral value is Conscience representing 4.48%. Each of these moral values is related to one another because if one of them arises, the affective of other students will emerge from the components of the moral values of other students. The findings of this study support students to become individuals with integrity.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the process of online peer assessment implementation in a writing activity and to find out the students’ responses toward the implementation of online peer assessment in learning writing skills. This research uses a qualitative approach and case study as the research design. The data were collected with the triangulation data by observation, interview, and documentation. Observation checklist, in-depth interview, and documentation used as data retrieval instruments. The subject of this study is an English teacher and students of class XI TKJ 1 at SMKN 1 Rawamerta. The result of this study shows that the implementation of peer assessment in writing skills is very effective to help the students in learning writing and evaluating learning process. Before the implementation of peer assessment, the students were not able to recognize their mistakes in detail, they could only find out about the numerical score, and did not know about how to assess. Based on the result obtained, it is concluded that teaching writing to the students’ responses toward the use of peer assessment was positive. It can be seen from the attitude and enthusiasm. Students agreed that peer assessment is a very effective technique used in writing activities. It can be concluded that online peer assessment can be applied both in writing and speaking as well as an important part of the move towards more forms of participatory learning. There is a need to apply it in the schools and universities since it is more adaptable to modern developments in the assessment of learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study focuses on exploring students' experiences in implementing the Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy in reading comprehension of narrative texts. The primary objective is to investigate students' experiences in the implementation of LRD strategy in reading comprehension of narrative texts. A qualitative approach is employed in this study, specifically utilizing a case study design, to provide in-depth insights. Research methods included participatory observation, where the researcher actively engaged with students during learning LRD sessions and semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather detailed reflections and feedback from participants. The participants in this study were students from grade XI at a public high school in Karawang City. In this study, the researcher only took 6 samples of students who were selected to be interviewed using a combination of non-probability and purposive sampling techniques, to ensure the representation of various perspectives and experiences. The results highlight that students generally have a positive experience of implementing the LRD strategy. This strategy facilitates learning for students in their understanding of the text and fosters motivation to engage deeply in the reading comprehension learning process. However, the study also recognized certain limitations, particularly related to time constraints which may have impacted the depth of the research findings.

Abstract

Several high schools in Indonesia show that language is one of the aspects that must be learned for EFL students, especially writing. Providing feedback is an essential role in developing students' writing skills. The students need appropriate feedback methods such as an assessment of writing texts to encourage their writing skills through peer feedback. This research aims to describe the implementation and explore and describe students' experiences providing and receiving peer feedback in writing recount text. This research used a qualitative approach with the case study method through observation and interview. This study was carried out at a senior high school in Karawang. The findings in this study show that students have pretty good experience composing texts. Interaction and peer feedback have helped them better understand the structure and content of recount texts and provide valuable ideas in the writing process. However, although peer feedback is beneficial, teacher feedback must provide correct and detailed direction.

Abstract

Character education is crucial in shaping a society with decent morals and positive behavior. Developing character education can be accomplished through educational institutions such as schools which play a significant role in students’ character development. As one of the main learning resources in schools, textbooks can help facilitate the development of character education. This study aims to explore the character education values embedded in an English textbook Experiencing English for eighth grade Junior High School, and to find out how the character education values are represented in the textbook. This is a content analysis research study analyzing the data in the forms of reading texts, conversational texts, and pictures from the textbook. The results of the study show that there are a total of 18 character education values, as issued by the Ministry of National Education based on the Curriculum 2013, embedded in 49 reading texts, 17 conversational texts, and 17 pictures. Fond of reading became the most frequent character value found in the textbook with a percentage of 15.7%, while democracy with a percentage of 1.2% became the least frequent character value found. The character values embedded in the textbook are essential in shaping students to have excellent characters.
