Abstract

The implementation of regional autonomy adheres to the principle that financial sources originating from Regional Original Income (PAD) are more critical than sources outside PAD. Therefore, adequate financial sources are needed to finance the implementation of regional autonomy, one of which is through regional levies. One of the sources of revenue from sizeable regional user fees is parking fees. This sector is one of the essential sources of revenue because it always develops and develops an area (city). If it is appropriately managed, it can support PAD. This study aims to determine the number of potential parking fees in the shopping area of Klaten City and find strategies to optimize the potential for parking fees through surveys, observations, mathematical calculations, and comparative techniques to obtain an overview of the potential and conditions of the parking location. The results obtained include: 1) The potential for parking fees is currently Rp. 2,090,880,000.00 2) The efforts of local governments in increasing parking fees are not optimal 3) Strategies that can be used to increase parking fees can be done by establishing new regulations so that new potential the resulting amount will be IDR 2,471,040,000.00. Based on these findings, this research is expected to be a reference for the Klaten City government in optimizing the potential for parking fees; Besides, it is hoped that this research can enrich previous scientific findings related to parking fees.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the relationship of real exchange rate depreciation with trade balance and national output as economic indicators in floating exchange rate regime. This study also observes whether J-curve phenomenon exists in Indonesia or not. This study employs quarterly data from year 2000:1 to 2010:4 as representation of floating exchange rate regime. Vector Error Correction Model is applied as an analytical tool by emphasizing on impulse response function to find out the response of one variable as caused by any shock from other variables in the model and variance decomposition to trace the relative contribution of one variable toward the variability of other variables in the model. This study demonstrates that real exchange rate depreciation contributes positively toward trade balance in longer time horizon. Nevertheless, national output does not respond positively toward real exchange rate depreciation. Another empirical finding suggests that there is no strong evidence of J-Curve phenomenon during free floating exchange rate regime in Indonesia.

Abstract

The intention of regional government of Special Region of Yogyakarta to make south area as the front page of regional economic development has been initiated. As one subdistrict located in the south area of Gunungkidul regency, Tanjungsari subdistrict has several prospects on economy, tourism, and resources due to its strategic and direct position near the Hindia Ocean and Southern Traffic Lane. This study aims to mapping economic potential based upon leading sectors as identified by Location Quotient (LQ) method and Klassen typology which is employed to characterize the economic pattern and structure. Based on LQ analysis, both manufacturing and construction sectors are the leading sectors which need to develop in advance since they are the supporting sectors nowadays and in the future. Meanwhile, there exists a shift in economic pattern from developing region to underdeveloped region according to Klassen typology.

Abstract

Foreign tourism is indicated as one of the important instruments to encourage economic growth in several countries, including Indonesia. However, some studies only focus on the influence of tourist arrivals. Thus, the main objective of this study is to take a deeper look at the contribution of foreign tourism indicators to economic growth in Indonesia. Using panel data analysis from 33 countries between 2006 and 2016, this study applies three models: Pooled Least Square (PLS), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (FEM). Based on the fixed-effect model, this study reveals that foreign tourist arrivals have a significant and positive effect on economic growth. However, other tourism indicators such as length of stay and expenditure of foreign tourists appear to have no contribution to economic growth. From these findings, it can be implied that the Indonesian government should not only attract more tourists to come but also design strategies to encourage tourists to spend more money and stay longer. This study also finds that depreciation of Indonesian currency and visa-free policies have a significant contribution to higher economic growth.

Abstract

In recent decades, the debate about the impacts of economic globalization through free trade has become attention to public policy. One important issue to address is related to environmental quality. It has been fifteen years since ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) was firstly signed and the total trade flows between ASEAN countries and China have grown around US$ 20 billion per year. Under the ACFTA commitment, tariff rates for exports from China to ASEAN countries have been reduced gradually and so have the tariff rates of ASEAN exports to China. This paper attempts to investigate whether expanded trade causes environmental damage in Indonesia. As the main largest economy in ASEAN, Indonesia has greatly contributed to the pollution released in ASEAN area. Using industrial pollution projection system developed by World Bank in 1995, it has been found that the estimated amounts of pollution have been increasing by approximately five times in Indonesia after fifteen years of ACFTA implementation. Even though the share of export of most polluting sectors has been decreasing, its contribution on the pollution intensity remains the largest. Since chemicals become the most polluting sector with its rapid growing in export to China, this sector needs to be considered in trade negotiations in order to lessen negative impacts of trade to the environment.

Abstract

Based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia will face a demographic bonus era during 2020-2035. That implies that the number of productive-age population will be higher than elderly peopleand children (dependents). This phenomenon offers an opportunity due to a lower dependencyburden. However, the situation could be catastrophic if the government is not ready to equip theproductive age population with necessary skills. The objective of this study is to determine whetheror not higher spending on education has positive influence on human capital formation in BengkuluProvince. The research used panel data analysis of ten regions in Bengkulu Province for the 2010-2014 periods. Research results showed that spending on education does not have significant impacton human capital development, while women empowerment and infrastructure have positive effecton human capital. Our results imply that more spending on education does not matter if it is notsupported by quality infrastructure that makes education facilities accessible.

Abstract

Abstract

Poverty is still a complex economic problem in every country, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. One of Indonesia's provinces with a high poverty rate is the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), which amounted to 11.44% in 2019. This figure is the highest in Java and even higher than the national poverty rate of 9.82%. The high level of poverty is in line with the regional minimum wage of the DIY Province, which is the lowest in Indonesia, which is less than Rp. 1.6 million per month. This study then analyzes the minimum wage at the poverty level in the Province of DIY. The method used in this research is panel data with Fixed Effect Model (FEM) for all districts/cities in DIY Province from 2010-2019. By controlling for variables such as economic growth, education, and health, the results of this study indicate that the minimum wage has a negative effect on poverty levels in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Therefore, to accelerate poverty reduction in the DIY Province, the provincial and district/city governments must review the minimum wage calculation annually.
