Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of socioeconomic status factors on individual happiness in Indonesia. Happiness is a multifaceted phenomenon arising from both internal and external sources. While conventional measures often reduce it to mere absolute income, a comprehensive understanding necessitates the incorporation of subjective perspectives. Our study unveils compelling insights into the impact of socioeconomic status on happiness. In doing so, this research contributes valuable insights to the field of happiness economics. It informs policy initiatives to enhance the well-being of individuals in Indonesia and similar contexts. Drawing upon cross-sectional data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey, Wave 5 (2014), encompassing a substantial sample of 29,018 respondents, we employ the ordered probit method. This statistical choice is motivated by the ordinal nature of the response variable and its alignment with normality assumptions in error distribution. The research findings reveal several socioeconomic status factors that significantly influence happiness. Wealth level, education, urban residence, and religion correlate positively with individual happiness, while age and employment status show a negative correlation. Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of socioeconomic policies to enhance the happiness of Indonesian society.

Abstract

Alleviating poverty and creating prosperity is the ultimate goal for every country, especially in developing countries. The Indonesian Government initiates various poverty alleviation efforts, one of which is the transmigration program. As a strategic plan to reduce poverty, it is necessary to pay special attention to the results of migration activities. This study aims to determine the effect of migration on poverty rates in Indonesia. This study uses pooled cross-sectional data analysis for 34 Indonesian provinces in 2015 and 2019 using the Ordinary Least Squares model. Based on this research, it was found that permanent in-migration did not affect poverty, but there was a positive and significant effect of permanent out-migration and rising out-migration on poverty. Meanwhile, in-migration has a negative and significant effect on poverty. Another finding from this study is that wages and education have a negative and significant effect on poverty, while the place of origin does not affect poverty.  Keywords: Indonesia, in-migration, out-migration, poverty JEL: A11, A1

The housewife has an important role in the family's financial management. They are responsible for regulating spending, saving, and investing to meet the needs of the family. This community empowerment program aims to introduce investment in financial instruments to the members of PCA Kraton so that they can make smart investment choices and avoid the risk of fake investments. The materials being delivered include financial records using SIAPIK application and stock investments using the Magic application. The findings from a one-way t-test for a paired sample of 25 participants showed an increase in the financial literacy score of the PCA Kraton households by 1.80 points with a 5% significance rate. This indicates that community-serving activities were successful in improving the participants' knowledge of family financial planning and investment instruments
