Abstract

The study's purpose is to describe the cognitive conflicts experienced by students with relational understanding when solving the problem of three-term ratios. The current research is a case study with a qualitative approach using a purposeful sampling technique. The three research objects are representations of the condition that (1) the student was sure of his solution (cognitive conflict was solved) and the solution is correct, (2) the student was confident with his solution (cognitive conflict was solved) but the solution is not correct, and he is not confident with the solution (cognitive conflict was not solved), and the solution was not correct. The results of this study describe students with relational understanding experience cognitive conflicts, that is, being aware of the conflict between the initial concepts they have and the results obtained. Students feel doubtful and worried, as indicated by the awareness that the initial scheme applied to one proportion problem cannot be applied to other comparison questions. Students' cognitive conflicts with relational understanding do not always lead them to get the correct solution to the three-term ratio problems. The reason is that the student believes comparison is wrong (misconception).

Abstract

Students in SMP Negeri 4 Pakem have high-level participation and are very active when they learn in class. But we cannot ignore that there are some students that do not share their ideas or comment in front of the class. Based on observation, students’ participation is dominated by some students. That is why the objective of this study was to shed light on the implementation of the random calling technique using popsicle sticks to improve all of the students’ participation. The research was qualitative narrative research which has seventh-grade students in SMP Negeri 4 Pakem as the research subject. To collect the data used observation technique and questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed by using a descriptive technique based on data triangulation. The result of this study is that teacher and students make an agreement on how to implement random calling using popsicle sticks. This random calling technique is used after giving students an opportunity to be active in class voluntarily. Based on the questionnaire submitted, 75% of students agree that mathematics learning using random calling gives them a broad opportunity and they feel challenged in class.

Abstract

A scientific journal can be interpreted as the outcome of studies or research published periodically through educational and research institutions. Polynom is a journal from the mathematics education program, specifically serving as a platform for student publications, particularly those from the mathematics education program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. However, the Polynom Journal, as a platform for student scientific publications, does not simply publish student works without a quality review process. This is because it will impact the accreditation of the journal itself. The purpose of this research is to understand the management strategies of the Polynom journal as a student journal that adheres to National Journal Accreditation and Program Accreditation. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The researcher carried out several research steps, including collecting data from the Polynom journal's dashboard, interviewing journal managers, and analyzing data. The Polynom Journal, as a student journal, has implemented strategies that adhere to national journal accreditation and program accreditation. However, the applied strategies have not been fully implemented. The peer reviewers at the Polynom Journal are already more than 50% from outside UIN Sunan Kalijaga, but the manuscript reassessment process has not yet been fully implemented. There is already a publication workflow, but it has not run optimally. Nevertheless, the Polynom Journal has established good writing guidelines, consistent writing style, and good regularity.
