Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are common occupational health problems, especially among workers in the informal sector such as micro, small, and medium enterprises producing crackers in Palembang City, whose activities are dominated by manual work with non-ergonomic postures. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with MSDs complaints among MSME cracker workers in Palembang. This quantitative research used a cross-sectional design. Data were collected in June 2025 through observation and structured questionnaires from 107 workers across 27 MSMEs. Independent variables included individual factors (age, sex, body mass index/BMI, smoking habits) and occupational factors (work posture, years of service, and working duration). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with chi-square tests. The results showed that 70.1% of respondents reported MSDs complaints. Statistical analysis revealed significant associations between BMI (p = 0.027), work posture (p = 0.026), years of service (p = 0.000), and working duration (p = 0.000) with MSDs complaints. The most dominant factor was years of service (OR = 8.54; 95% CI: 3.33–21.89). In conclusion, MSDs complaints among MSME cracker workers in Palembang were influenced by both individual and occupational factors, with years of service being the strongest predictor. Preventive efforts such as ergonomic interventions, working hours regulation, and occupational health promotion are essential to reduce the risk of MSDs.

Abstract

Diarrhea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among children under five, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. The increasing prevalence of diarrhea is influenced by various factors, including low maternal knowledge, suboptimal Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), and inadequate sanitation facilities, such as limited access to healthy latrines, wastewater disposal systems, and waste disposal facilities. This study aims to analyze the risk factors associated with the incidence of diarrhea in children aged 12–59 months in the working area of Puskesmas Pembina, Palembang City, in 2025. This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 107 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed significant associations between maternal knowledge (p = 0.003), clean and healthy living behavior (p = 0.005), and the availability of healthy latrines (p = 0.000) with diarrhea incidence. However, no significant associations were found with wastewater disposal (p = 0.266) or waste disposal (p = 0.193). Maternal knowledge, PHBS, and ownership of healthy latrines are key factors in preventing diarrhea. Educational and sanitation improvement efforts are essential.

Abstract

Background:The quality of life differs according to individual characteristics and social life. Employment status impacts women's role in family and society. Income influences many aspects of women's lives. This research was designed to compare the quality of life of employed women with unemployed womens. This study is quantitative research in public health to determine the quality of  life of employed women and unemployed womens. This study used data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey in 2014. The first (IFLS1) wave was conducted in 1993–1994. The survey individuals represented almost 83% of the Indonesian population residing in 13 of the country’s 26 provinces. IFLS5 was carried out in 2014-2015 and the individual re-contact rate was 90.5%. The number of women in the 2014 IFLS data aged 22-55 years who were not attending school is 10,661. Subjects with complete data in this study were 7169. Primary activities during the past week such as being employed and homemakers were eligible criteria. The average QoL score of employed women was higher than unemployed womens, with the mean difference was 0.019. The person correlation reveals no differences in overall QoL for both groups. Despite the Pearson correlation test revealing no significant difference in overall quality of life, employed women rated higher scores for almost dimensions of quality of life (well-being, general health, physical activity, social participation, religion, and social environment). The current study identified significant differences in physical activity and community participation for the two groups. The quality of life of employed women is better than unemployed. This study provides the ensuing practical implications regarding regular physical activity and getting involved in community programs. It is necessary to strengthen the support system. Furthermore, health promotion is essential for women to take responsibility for chores and achieve social support by engaging in community activities.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease often referred to as the "silent killer" due to its asymptomatic nature and potential to cause severe complications. In Indonesia, including the city of Palembang, the prevalence of hypertension continues to rise, highlighting the urgency of effective health education as a preventive measure. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions delivered via video media in improving the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of hypertensive patients within the service area of the Pembina Community Health Center, Palembang. Method: A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was employed. A total of 109 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires measuring knowledge, attitude, and behavior, with reliability coefficients ranging from 0.689 to 0.878. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, including the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: The intervention significantly improved participants' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding hypertension management, as indicated by p-values ranging from 0.000 to 0.002. The mean knowledge score increased from 70.18 to 84.42, the mean attitude score from 84.95 to 89.43, and the mean practice score from 72.11 to 83.22. The percentage increases for each variable were 14.24% for knowledge, 4.48% for attitude, and 11.09% for behavior. Conclusion: The educational intervention using video media effectively enhanced the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of hypertensive patients, as evidenced by statistically significant improvements in all measured domains (p < 0.05). Recommendation: Educational videos are recommended as an effective strategy for health promotion and hypertension prevention, as they provide clear, visual information that can support behavioral change among patients

Preventive efforts through health education are essential, one of which is utilizing engaging and easily understandable learning media for children. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of animated infographic video media on improving the knowledge and attitudes of third-grade students at SDN 118 Palembang in diarrhea prevention. Methods: The research design used was a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 59 students selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used were knowledge and attitude questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The study showed an increase in knowledge scores, with the mean pretest score rising from 12.54 to 18.14 in the posttest, as well as an increase in attitude scores from a mean of 44.88 to 48.61. Conclusion: Statistical tests showed a significant difference between the scores before and after the intervention, both in knowledge (p = 0.000) and attitude (p = 0.000). These findings demonstrate that animated infographic video media has a positive effect on improving students' knowledge and attitudes regarding diarrhea prevention. Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents is a serious public health concern and contributes to an increased risk of degenerative diseases. Health education using educational media is considered effective in enhancing knowledge and modifying adolescent behavior. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of health education through animated video and leaflet media on junior high school students’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the dangers of smoking. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted with 100 randomly selected junior high school students in Palembang City. The intervention included educational animated videos and distribution of leaflets. Pretest and posttest measurements were conducted using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. There were significant increases in the mean scores of knowledge (from 6.34 to 9.20), attitudes (from 40.24 to 45.66), and practices (from 20.80 to 23.82), with p=0.000 for all variables. Health education using animated videos and leaflets is effective in improving student knowledge and shaping positive behavior in smoking prevention. This approach is recommended as part of school-based health promotion strategies.
