Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The study area is located within the administrative district of Campurdarat Subdistrict, Tulungagung Regency, East Java Province. This research aims to analyze the role of geological structures on alteration and mineralization processes using geological and alteration mapping method, joint measurement, petrographic and mineragraphic analysis, and spectral data interpretation. The geological mapping results indicate that the lithostratigraphy of the study area, from youngest to oldest, consists of Alluvial Unit (Sa), Limestone Unit (Sbg), Volcanic Breccia Unit (Sbv), and Andesite Lava Unit (Sla). The geological structures include faults and joints, formed through a wrench fault mechanism, indicating left-lateral movement with the formation of a transpressional pop-up structure. Alteration zones belong to the high-sulfidation epithermal deposit system, consisting of four alteration types, comprising silicifaction, advanced argillic, argillic, and propylitic. Mineralization in the study area is associated with veins and vuggy quartz. Ore minerals present include pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, marcasite, magnetite, rutile, and covellite. Alteration and mineralization in the study area are controlled by northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast strike-slip faults. Faults in the study area have caused alteration overprinting and fault zones.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest nickel producing countries in the world. One of the nickel producing areas in Indonesia is in the Loji Beach area. This research area is located on Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. Geologically, the research area is composed of ultramafic rocks. This research aims to determine the characteristics of nickel laterite and its relationship with geological conditions in the research area using petrographic methods of rock samples and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) geochemistry of drilling samples. Geochemical data in the form of Ni content from drill data was interpolated using the IDW method using ArcGIS software. Based on research results, Ni-laterite is abundant in the morphology of gentle hills with a slope of 0-7%. The base rock bearing Ni-laterite is thought to be serpentinite from the serpentinization of harzburgite and dunite. Based on petrographic analysis, the bedrock is composed of >85% serpentine, the rest is relict minerals olivine and orthopyroxene, as well as other minerals such as talc, oxide minerals and opaque. The results of geochemical analysis show that in the limonite zone there is an abundance of Fe elements, while in the saprolite zone the Ni element is enriched with levels of 1.5% -2.8%.

Abstract

Endut Mount is one of the geothermal prospect locations in Indonesia. In order to optimize the geothermal potential of the research area, it is necessary to conduct research on geothermal characteristics. One such study is the examination of altered minerals in geothermal manifestations. The primary objective of this research is to conduct alteration investigations utilizing coring data obtained from the drilling of Well 1 by petrography, MeB, Spectra, and XRD method approaches. The result of the research shows that the lithology of this Well is a product of Endut Mount activity, with an intensity ranging from medium to strong. The lithology is composed of altered tuff and altered andesite breccia, which are a product of the Pleistocene period, and altered volcanic breccia and altered tuff breccia, which are a product of the Miocene period. This lithology is based on the oldest to the youngest succession. The alteration assemblages in Well 1 are classified into two zones based on the assemblage of alteration minerals: the illite-chlorite±epidote zone, which is located at a depth of 9.7– 40.9 MD, and the smectite-sericite-chlorite-epidote zone, which is located at a depth of 40.9 – 111.15 MD. The type of alteration in Well 1 is propylitic, with a neutral pH and a temperature range of 200oC to 300oC, as indicated by the mineral composition and alteration zone. This alteration zone has the potential to function as a reservoir zone.
