Abstract

Gratitude in Islamic teachings includes three aspects: gratitude with heart, verbal, and deed. Therefore, gratitude is limited to verbal recognition in the heart and should be realized in concrete actions (Tafsir al-Miṣbāḥ). In Positive Psychology, gratitude has three functions: a barometer, motivator, and moral reinforcement. Through a hermeneutic approach, the purpose of this study is to explore 1) the spiritual values of the concept of gratitude in Tafsir al-Miṣbāḥ and, 2) How is the relevance of the spiritual values of gratitude in Tafsir al-Miṣbāh in creating spiritual well-being. This research is a literature study, with the primary data source being the verses of the Qur'an about gratitude described in the Tafsir al-Misbah interpretation. Through a hermeneutic approach, the study results show that gratitude is a Spiritual Capital in creating spiritual well-being. Gratitude contains psycho-spiritual values such as trust (Amanah), satisfaction (qanā‘ah), humility (tawāḍu'), and optimism. These values function as motivation and morale reinforcement to build harmonious relationships between individuals, others, the universe, and God (spiritual well-being).Keywords: Spiritual Well-being; Gratitude Concept; Gratitude Spirituality.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the implementation of Extensive Reading Activity in Reading Comprehension subjects for IAIN Manado students. The research used a qualitative descriptive method. The data were collected through field notes, observation, documentation, and interview. The subjects of this research were students of Tadris Bahasa Inggris IAIN Manado. The findings show that the lecturer had implemented the Extensive Reading Activity in the Reading subject. The implementation of the Extensive Reading Activity for Students of Tadris Bahasa Inggris IAIN Manado can be concluded that there are many advantages in reading skills: understanding vocabulary, structure, grammar, and finding ideas or general descriptions in a text. The Extensive Reading approach can increase students' knowledge and worldview, foster attitudes and motivation towards reading habits, so reading is a fun activity and improves their Reading Skills. However, the Extensive Reading approach cannot replace the Intensive Reading approach. Moreover, Extensive Reading Activity is an alternative way of teaching and learning Reading skills. Through this research, it is hoped that it can provide an overview of Extensive Reading Activity's implementation, especially in the Reading subject, to be used as a reference for further research.

Abstract

AbstractTeaching English Strategy for young learners. In teaching and learning, teacher must have strategies in every subject including English lessons, the teacher must have strategies in teaching to support the learning process and achieve learning goals especially for young learners because they have different characteristics from adults, she must have strategies suitable for young learners. This research aimed to find out the strategies of teaching English to young learners at MIN 2 Kutai Kartanegara. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is an English teacher at MIN 2 Kutai Kartanegara. The data were obtained from interviews and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed using an interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana condensation. The technique of data validity uses triangulation data. Based on the data results, this research can be concluded that the teacher’s strategies for teaching English to young learners at MIN 2 Kutai Kartanegara were teaching planning, implementation of strategy, and teaching Evaluation. The teacher prepares the lesson plan, materials, media, and methods in teaching planning. Moreover, she implemented teaching English strategies by using demonstration, choral drill, look-and-say, pictorial illustration, verbal illustration, association, question and answer, narration, and read-and-say. She also evaluated teaching English through formative and summative evaluation.Keywords: Teaching English, Strategy, Young Learners.

Abstract

Various Utilization of Textbooks as Media for Learning English in Bitung City, North Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the criteria for determining textbooks as a media for learning English and the benefits, weaknesses, and advantages of textbooks. This research is qualitative and descriptive. The data collection techniques use in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that textbooks have a role as learning media in the teaching and learning process. 1) Criteria in selecting textbooks are: a) relevant to the curriculum, b) the material in textbooks is productive and receptive, c) The textbook material is based on the basic principles of learning foreign languages, d) Engaging content with media images in it, e) Have various types of evaluation that can measure learning achievement. 2) Using textbooks as media, learning resources, and learning evaluation tools. 3) Weaknesses and strengths of textbooks as a media for learning English a) unavailability of textbooks for each student, b) much material. Utilization Textbooks have advantages a) have a complete side, b) make it easier for teachers to deliver material, and visualization c) have varied questions

Abstract

The background of this research is that Early Childhood Education teachers play an important role in interactions both as teachers in learning and as mentors and counselors for children. PAUD (Early Childhood Education) teachers are expected to have counseling communication skills, including empathy, active listening, and the ability to ask questions. This research aimed to find out the ability of Early Childhood Education Teachers in East Kalimantan in counseling communication. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were Early Childhood Education Teachers from 8 PAUD institutions in 4 (four) City Districts in the East Kalimantan regions. There are Samarinda, Bontang, Kutai Kartanegara, and Kutai Timur. This subject was taken purposively from two teachers selected in each institution that was used as a place of research. The research object was the teacher's ability to conduct counseling communication by attending, empathizing, asking questions, and active listening skills. From this study, the researcher concluded that most Early Childhood Education Teachers can empathize but have not implemented empathic communication and effective listening in asking questions to explore children's emotions and thoughts. Most teachers used advising, seducing, persuading, and diverting children's problems in counseling communication. For further suggestions, school principals should evaluate the teachers’ ability in counseling communication to children and implement teacher counseling communication through tutorials and training among colleagues or peer tutors among teachers.

Abstract

Misi bangsa Indonesia antara lain menetapkan bahwa sistem dan iklim pendidikan nasional yang demokratis dan bermutu guna memperteguh akhlak mulia, kreatif, inovatif, berwawasan kebangsaan, cerdas, sehat, berdisiplin dan bertanggung jawab, berteknologi dalam rangka mengembangkan kualitas manusia Indonesia. Pengembangan profesi guru adalah kegiatan guru dalam rangka pengamalan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan ketrampilan utuk peningkatan mutu baik bagi bagi proses belajar belajar mengajar dan profesionalisme tenaga kependidikan lainnya maupun dalam rangka menghasilkan sesuatu yang bermanfaat bagi pendidikan dan kebudayaan. Adapun kegiatan pengembangan profesi yang dimaksud adalah 1). membuat karya tulis/karya ilmiah di bidang pendidikan, 2) menemukan teknologi di bidang pendidikan.3). membuat alat pelajaran/alat peraga atau alat bimbingan, 3). menciptakan karya tulis ilmiah, dan mengikuti kegiatan pengembangan kurikulum (Depdiknas, 2001: 1-2). Maka menulis karya ilmiah merupakan syarat mutlak bagi guru yang akan naik pangkat dan golongan tertentu.

Abstract

Bahasa merupakan salah satu hal penting dalam komunikasi, baik dalam bentuk lisan ataupun tertulis, verbal ataupun non-verbal. Keterampilan setiap orang dalam menggunakan bahasanya dalam berkomunikasi juga berbeda-beda tergantung kemampuan yang dimiliki tiap individu. Ketika seseorang mengalami kesulitan dalam berbahasa, maka ia juga akan mengalami kesulitan mentransfer atau mengirim pesan kepada lawan bicaranya. Akibatnya, komunikasi menjadi kurang optimal bahkan bisa gagal. Dalam hal ini, komunikasi tidak hanya persoalan penyampaian pesan satu arah, namun juga komunikasi dua arah dengan melibatkan konteks tertentu yang saling dipahami oleh peserta komunikasi. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, perlu menjadi perhatian kita semua dalam rangka meningkatkan keterampilan berbahasa dan kebahasaan. Tarigan (2013:1) menyatakan bahwa keterampilan berbahasa mempunyai empat komponen, yaitu 1) keterampilan menyimak (listening skills); 2) keterampilan berbicara (speaking skills); 3) keterampilan membaca (reading skills); dan 4) keterampilan menulis (writing skills).
