Abstract

Tourism is one sector that can improve the economy of a region. This sector plays an important role in sustaining life in the surrounding communities. Several studies have reported the condition of tourism but not much has been reported in the archipelago. This study aims to determine the distribution of tourist objects in Ternate Island, North Maluku, Indonesia. The method used is through descriptive analysis with a spatial approach in 2023. This research activity is completing the distribution of tourist objects such as natural attractions, historical and cultural attractions and artificial attractions. The map output that has been compiled presents a distribution of 60 tourist objects consisting of 30 natural attractions, 18 historical and cultural attractions, and 12 artificial attractions. In addition, West Ternate District has the highest number of tourist objects with 24 tourist objects and in North Ternate District there are 12 tourist objects

Abstract

Batu Angus Geotourism in West Ternate District, North Maluku, is one of the popular tourist destinations in Indonesia that offers unique and interesting natural scenery. The area is famous for its black volcanic rocks and rough texture, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. This study aims to map the facilities and infrastructure at the Batu Angus Geotourism Object in the Kulaba Village, West Ternate District using a GIS application in order to map the location and area of facilities and infrastructure, analyze the condition of facilities and infrastructure, and provide recommendations for development facilities and infrastructure at the Batu Angus Geotourism Object. The method used is a spatial approach based on a geospatial information system by means of field surveys to collect spatial data on the location and area of facilities and infrastructure, interviews with tourist attraction managers and tourists to collect attribute data on the condition of facilities and infrastructure, and documentation to collect secondary data in the form of photos and maps. The results of the study showed that the condition of the facilities and infrastructure was adequate, including a parking area, stage, gazebo, and toilets. Facilities that need to be improved include clean water, electricity, a museum, and road access. Mapping was carried out using the ArcGIS application to produce a digital map of the distribution of facilities and infrastructure. This map helps tourists to find available facilities. Batu Angus Geotourism has great potential to be developed. It is necessary to improve facilities and infrastructure, tourism promotion, and public awareness to support the development of this tourism.

Abstract

Landslides and flash floods are common natural disasters in volcanic landscapes. The repercussions of these events are substantial. A dearth of understanding, preparedness, and awareness of disaster risks can result in casualties, significant material losses, and impediments to the post-disaster recovery process. Disaster mitigation has been demonstrated to be an effective solution for managing post-disaster activities. The objective of this service activity is to elucidate the significance of participatory-based disaster mitigation in establishing a community that is responsive to disasters. The activity was carried out in Rua Village, Ternate Island District, Ternate City. The community service method employed is characterized by a socialization approach, encompassing mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. Activities are carried out directly in the community in Rua Village. The findings of the initiative have contributed to an enhanced understanding of disaster mitigation strategies, particularly within the context of volcanic landscapes, in regions susceptible to such events. Additionally, the team emphasized the importance of implementing initiatives such as afforestation, erecting disaster-response shelters, and strengthening community resilience. Furthermore, additional coordination is necessary between the community and the local government to effectively manage disaster-prone areas. These regions must be identified as priorities so that the local government can implement initiatives aimed at cultivating disaster-resilient communities.

Abstract

The availability of ruminant feed in Kulaba Village, Ternate City, is still dependent on the seasons, often disrupting livestock productivity. To address this, the community service program aims to increase livestock feed self-sufficiency through outreach and assistance in land use based on land capability data. The method used is a participatory approach, comprising stages of problem identification, spatial analysis of land capability maps, outreach and training, and the construction of demonstration plots (demplots) in yards, rain-fed rice fields, and marginal land. These activities have resulted in an increase in partners' understanding of land map symbols and interpretation, their ability to select forage crops according to land class, and their awareness of the importance of feed preservation through silage technology. Despite these improvements, the main obstacles, such as limited access to seeds, capital, and irrigation facilities, remain. However, the presence of demonstration plots and facilitation by farmer groups has helped accelerate the adoption of technology. As such, this program contributes to strengthening local food security and provides a foundation for the development of sustainable land-use systems in the future.
