Abstract

The garbage mixed with rain water will produce leachate. Leachate can be pollution if not treated before being discharged into the environment. The leachate treatment are precipitation process, coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation, and cleaning process. However, effluent of TPA Muara Fajar Landfill was above the standard quality of KEP 51-/MENLH/10/1995 about industrial effluent standard. Therefore research on acute toxicity test of effluent leachate from Muara Fajar Landfil to determine LC50 value and TUa (Toxicity Unit area) value by using renewel test method in 96 hours observation. Testing animal used was goldfish (Cyprinus Carpio L). LC50 value was calculated by probit method which utilized the goldfish mortality and the parameters tested was DO, pH, temperature, COD, and sulfide. The value of LC50 of effluent Muara Fajar Landfill was 3,595% and TUa (Toxicity Unit Area) of effluent Muara Fajar Landfill was 27,81. The results showed that value of effluent could make great acute toxicity. Result show the COD and sulfide leachate of characteristics of Muara Fajar landfill affected goldwish mortality. By the higher concentrations and characteristic by the higher goldwish mortality, which means more toxic the leachate was. By the smaller concentration value and characteristics of leachate by the higher LC50 value, which means the toxicity of the leachate was disminished.Keywords : effluent leachate of muara fajar Landfill, LC50 value, renewal test, toxicity.

Abstract

Spent mushroom substrate (SMS) generated as waste by mushroom industries after the harvesting of mushroom. SMS is one of the most organic waste generated from agricultural waste that contain lignocelluloses and can be used in modifed for the adsorption of dyes, pollutants and heavy metals. In this study, SMS was modified using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and prepared as biosorbents. NaOH can be an efficient and economical modifier for lignocelluosic material. This study aims to determine the effect of the effect on NaOH concentration and contact time of iodine activation number and SMS surface area.Keywords: Biosorbent, NaOH, Spent Mushroom Substrate.

Abstract

Wastewater produced from palm oil industry could potentially cause pollution because it contains the value of COD and high organic matter that can effect the death of aquatic biota. Wastewater from the outlet Waste Treatment Unit PT. X is still above the quality standards set by the government. Therefore research on acute toxicity test of palm oil industry to determine the value of LC50 and to analyze the relationship of wastewater from the outlet Waste Treatment Unit PT. X towards the experimental animal. This research was done by renewal test method in 96 hours of observation by using Catfish (Pangasius sp.) as the test animals. LC50 value was calculated by probit method which utilized the catfish mortality and the parameters tested was DO, pH, temperature, COD,ammonia and nitrate. The characteristic value of wastewater of palm oil PT. X is COD 1426,8 mg/l, ammonia 0,9909 mg/l, nitrate 0,0075 mg/l, pH 8, DO 3 mg/l, and temperature 28°C which the parameter of COD passed the quality standar of the Environment Minister’s decision No. 51/MENLH/10/1995 about the Quality Standart of Waste Water for Palm Oil Industry. The result showed the value of LC50 is 9,878% and TUa (Toxicity Unit Area) of palm oil industrial wastewater is 10,22 showed that the wastewater of palm oil could make great acute toxicity.Keywords: catfish, palm oil wastewater,the value of LC50, renewal test.

Abstract

Biomass is an alternative energy source because it has hydrocarbon molecules. In this study, processing of biomass into briquettes from plantation waste is carried out in the form of Oil Palm Empty Bunches (TKS). In its use, briquettes through the combustion process will produce carbon monoxide gas emissions which have many negative impacts. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the results of CO concentration resulting from the combustion of EFB briquettes on variations in emission measurement distances. Emission testing was carried out using the Environmental Combustion Analyzer Model 450. The results of the analysis obtained the concentration of CO parameters for EFB briquettes with variations in the measurement distances of 0 cm, 10 cm, 20 cm and 30 cm, namely 162 mg/Nm3, 141 mg/Nm3, and 74 mg. /Nm3 and 69 mg/Nm3. The test results for a safe distance that can be used for cooking is at a distance of 30 cm from the emission source, namely the emission test results are below the quality standard of 69 mg/Nm3 Keywords: biomass, briquette, emissions measurement distance, empty bunch of palm, carbon monoxide

Abstract

The development of industries that produce volumes of waste produced, which one is copper, Cu (II). Cu (II) can be dangerous and toxic to human and the environment. This study aims to utilize spent mushrooms subsrate (SMS) Coprinus comatus removing Cu (II) metal in electroplating wastewater. Biosorbent spent mushrooms subsrate (SMS) was activated using HCl. Variation concentrations of HCl (0.1; 0.5; and 1 N) in contact activation time 15 minutes. The results show that biosorbent was activated using HCl at concentration 0.1 N in contact activation time 15 minutes has high efficiency is 13.90%. Abstract

The adsorption process of artificial Cu2+ solutions was investigated using an adsorbent made from Empty Fruit Bunches . This study aims to calculate the adsorption capacity of Cu2+ metal ions by varying the mass of the adsorbent from waste from carbonized Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches at 3500C. The mass of the adsorbent used was 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 grams. The results showed that the best adsorption capacity occurred at a mass of 2 grams, which was 3.882 mg/g. Abstract

The need for energy is continuously increasing and the availability of fuel is depleting, the necessary to save energy source. Saving can be through the use of fuel or energy sourced from renewable energy. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to obtain alternative fuels that can be renewed such as spent bleaching earth (SBE) waste. SBE is solid waste that comes from the bleaching of crude palm oil. The hoped that SBE solid waste can be reused so that SBE waste does not become an environmental problem because it is existence has not been optimally untilized. Abstract

Indonesia's dependence on fossil energy has made the availability of petroleum decrease drastically. This situation was driven by increased growth in the industrial sector and population. The depletion of fossil energy reserves must be immediately balanced with the provision of alternative energy, one of the uses of biomass as an alternative fuel to replace fossil fuels is to make it into briquettes. Biomass waste produced from the palm oil industry are solid waste of empty palm oil fruit bunches and solid waste of spent bleaching earth. The hoped that empty palm oil fruit bunches waste and spent bleaching earth solid waste can be reused so that waste does not become an environmental problem because it is existence has not been optimally untilized. Abstract

Leachate is luquid which was produced from huge of waste at landfill. Leachate has organic substances which is potentially harmful of human and ecosystem. Because it can serve as a medium for the growth and development of  pathogenic microorganisms. This study aimed to determine the effect of coagulant  Aluminum Sulfate concentration in the coagulation-flocculation, membrane  resistance, flux and rejection percentages.  In the coagulation-flocculation process,  coagulant Aluminum Sulfate concentration was used 30 ppm. The process was done by quickly stirring in 200 rpm on 2 minutes and slow stirring in 60 rpm on 10 minutes with 30 minutes settling time of flocs. The precipitate formed and clear liquid were separated and the clear liquid was fed to the ultrafiltration membrane with variation of pressure at 1 bar, 1.5 bar and 2 bar.With 30 ppm coagulant the survey resulted was BOD5 reduced 25.00%, COD reduced 24.14% and TSS reduced 52.17%. After the membrane ultrafiltration process, the survey obtain the effective process is at 2 bar membrane pressure with number of rejection as following 71.43% of BOD5, 70.59% of COD  and 45.45% TSS.
