Abstract

Palm Oil Mill Effluent treatment produces sludge as byproduct. The sludge produced will cause problems for environment if there are no actions and treatments taken toward the sludge. The purpose of this research is to reduce the pollution of palm oilmill effluent with aerob composting methods using sludge, boiler ash and palm oil fiber. The instrument used is a simple composter with 60 cm height and 30 cm diameter. The sludge is mixed with boiler ash, fiber and organic waste, and then EM-4 was added as an activator. This research used the addition of 0,7 % EM-4activator, with variations of stack’s height are 40, 45 and 50 cm to find out the optimal height to achieve thermophylic condition and the quality of the compost produced. The result of this research shows that compost with 50 cm stack’s height reached the highest temperature of 47,30C. The quality of the compost produced meets the SNI’s 19-7030-2004 requirement. The compost is mature at the 21st day with result Rasio C/N= 12,2. The conversion of palm’s oil sludge into compost can beused as an alternative in utilization waste into valuable product. Keywords: boiler ash, compost, EM-4 activator, fiber, palm’s sludge

Abstract

The need and consumption of the community for fuel oil (BBM) which is increasing from year to year is inversely proportional to its availability. One alternative energy solution to replace fossil energy is bioethanol and biohydrogen. POME has a high content of organic compounds such as carbohydrates, cellulose, sucrose, and starch so that it has the potential as a substrate for fermentation of bioethanol and biohydrogen. Anaerobic POME processing technology can increase the formation of bioethanol and biohydrogen. This research was conducted by analyzing the characteristics of POME through pH, demand for chemical oxygen (COD) and volatile suspended solids (VSS) and their potential in producing bioethanol and biohydrogen. From this study COD obtained a value of 32000 mg / L. Potential energy of bioethanol and biohydrogen formed through the degradation of organic matter in POME obtained respectively 1700 ml H2 / ml POME / day and 1.35g / L for 8 days Keywords: Acidogenesis, anaerobic, bioethanol, biohydrogen, palm oil mill effluent

Abstract

This study uses Multi Soil Layering (MSL) to cultivate oil palm liquid waste. The purpose of the research was to determine the efficiency of contaminant parameter Total Suspended Solid (TSS) allowance, study of the influence factors of variation of organic material in the mix on a layer of soil anaerobic and variation of Hydraulic Loading Rate (HLR) of the efficiency of the liquid waste processing with MSL, and compare research results with Keputusan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup No. 51 in 1995. In this study used two reactors measuring 30 cm x 26 cm x 35 cm, consisting of aerobic and anaerobic layer. Aerobic layer on both the same reactor, namely the gravel and perlit measuring 3-5 mm, while the second reactor anaerobic layer is distinguished, where the soil is a mixture of 1 reactors with active charcoal coconut shell and on reactor 2 is a mixture of ground with active charcoal banana peels by a ratio of 2: 1. Liquid waste oil palm streamed with the variation of Hydraulic Loading Rate (HLR) of 500 L/m2 day, 750 L/m2 day, 1000 L/m2 day at each reactor. TSS concentration before processing by the method of MSL is 890 mg/L, and, after processing concentration TSS is down to 100-240 mg/L. Variation of organic material gives the effect on the efficiency of the allowance which the TSS on charcoal activated coconut shell that has larger pores can do more MSL maximum mechanism. Variation of Hydraulic Loading Rate (HLR) also exert influence, where the smaller the HLR is given then the efficiency will be high. Efficiency of TSS removal are 79,77-88,76% in reactor 1 and 73,03-79,77% in reactor 2.Keywords: Efficiency, Hydraulic Loading Rate (HLR), Multi Soil Layering (MSL), Palm Liquid Waste, Organic Material.

Abstract

The use of fossil fuels is increasing every year, necessitating finding alternative energy sources as a substitute for fossil fuels. Alternative energy sources that can be used as renewable energy are biobriquettes derived from biomass. A very abundant agricultural waste, such as WWTP sludge, palm kernel shell production, but not utilized optimally. The purpose of this study was to study the effect of variations in tapioca adhesive concentration in the manufacture of biobriquette on the analysis of proximate and compressive strength produced. The process of making biobriquette in this study with variations changed the concentration of tapioca adhesive 5%, 8% and 11%. Fixed variations used were carbonization temperature of 300oC mud, 500oC rubber seed shells for 1 hour, raw material composition of WWTP sludge charcoal and 60%: 40% of the total weight of 10 gram briquettes and pressing pressure of 100 kg/cm2. Carbonization is carried out using furnaces and drying is carried out in a room 24 hours and then oven for 1 hour at a temperature of 105oC. The results showed that the best briquettes lie in the variation of 11% adhesive concentration which produces a compressive strength of 11,55 kg/cm2, moisture content of 7,5%, ash content of 7%, volatile content of 10,50% and carbon content of 75%.Keywords: biobriquette, rubber seed shell, carbonization, waste WWTP palm oil production, compressive strength.

Abstract

One of potential material that could be the raw material of bioethanol is pineapple peels. Pineapple peels is one of the biggest agricultural wastes in Indonesia, especially for Riau Province. Pineapple peels could be raw material for bioethanol production due to contains of fiber, carbohydrate and glucose. The purposes of this research are for making bioethanol from pineapple peel by using Simultaneous Sacharification and Fermentation Process (SSF) for finding the maximum inoculums concentration and the best time for fermentation process. The variations of inoculums are 5%, 7%, 10%, 12% and 15%. Then the variations for fermentation time are 2, 3, 4 and 5 days. The consists of bioethanol were tested by using alcoholmeter. From this research, the highest value of bioethanol is 14% or equal to 110,502 mg/ml, for variations at 10% inoculums and 4 days fermentation process.                                             Keyword: Bioethanol; Pineapple peels; Saccharomyces           Cerevisiae; Cellulose; SSF

Abstract

The untreated Biosolid Waste of POM from WWTP can be pollutants for the soil surface. The Biosolid Waste utilization through the sustainable approach of environment is by changing the waste biosolid POM from WWTP into the adsorbent. The particle size of the activated carbon biosolid POM be varied in a range, those are 100 and 120 mesh and chemically activated with H3PO4 9% as activators and physically activated using furnaces with temperatures of 500 °C for an hour. The best quality of biosolid POM as activated carbon is analyzed by water content, ash content and the absorption of iodine, in amount of 3.48%; 0.33%; 25.380 mg/g while the biosolid POM in particle size of 120 mesh were added. Keywords : Adsorbent, activated carbon, biosolid, particle size.
