Abstract

As ethnic minorities who adhere to the majority belief (Islam), ethnic Chinese Muslims in Jakarta are faced with a complex identity crisis, especially in the area of political participation. In the 2017 Jakarta regional elections (Pilkada), ethnic Chinese Muslims were faced with a political situation, whether to choose leaders from ethnic Chinese or leaders from the Muslim community. This situation puts them in a dilemma. However, ethnic Chinese Muslims have survived the complicated politics of ethnicity, even though regional election politics has caused a crisis of identity politics in Jakarta. Based on the research results, Chinese Muslims in Jakarta were able to survive despite the difficulties caused by their identity. This research is important because there are not many studies that specifically discuss the survival strategies of Chinese Muslims in Jakarta. This research is a socio-political research. To collect data, the methodology used is in-depth interviews with several informants. The results of the interviews and data are then processed using a qualitative and analytic approach. This is done in order to show how the Chinese Muslim ethnic group have survived the complicated political situation in Jakarta

Abstract

Moderatism is an essential foundation for religious expression among religious people in various fields of life, both in understanding and application. As part of the religious community, Mutakallimin from the classical to contemporary eras have provided valuable experiences for other Muslims. This paper aims to explore the experiences of the Mutakallimin regarding moderatism in the classical and contemporary eras. The writing method in this study uses literary methods and approaches to classical and contemporary Islamic literature. The results of the study explain that the Mutakallimin has demonstrated moderatism experiments marked by the emergence of the Khawarij Ibadiyah sect, Moderate Murjiah, Moderate Shia, the Mu'tazilah conception of rationality, the balance between Jabariyah and Qadariyah which is explored in the face of Asy'ariyah and Maturidiyah, as well as contemporary Kalam reform models which are based on theocentric and anthropocentric Kalam domains.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology within the Islamic education ecosystem faces a substantive challenge: the dominance of a pragmatic-instrumental approach that often overlooks the foundational values and epistemology of Islam. This gap risks eroding education's holistic function as a process of tarbiyah and ta'dib. This research aims to construct an integrative epistemological framework to bridge this dichotomy, ensuring digital transformation aligns with Islamic ethical and epistemic frameworks. The method employed is a critical integrative literature review, which critically synthesizes Western critical theories—such as surveillance capitalism and algorithmic governmentality—with foundational Islamic epistemic paradigms, namely Maqāṣid al-Sharī'ah and the Bayani-Burhani-Irfani trilogy. The study successfully formulates an intermethodological model that connects these two intellectual traditions. This model generates operational guiding principles, such as Digital Data as Amanah (trust) and Holistic Anti-Reductionism, designed to mitigate the risks of student data commodification and the reduction of educational goals to mere quantitative indicators. The research concludes that a value-based digital integration, grounded in this epistemic synthesis, is not merely important but essential for cultivating contemporary, excellent Muslim human resources: those who are proficient and critical in digital spaces (digital proficient), sovereign in thinking and knowledge acquisition (epistemically sovereign), and possess spiritual and moral resilience (spiritually resilient) amidst the currents of modernity.

Abstract

This study entitled “Living Theology in the Punggahan Tradition among the Javanese Ethnic Community in Paya Lombang, Tebing Tinggi” aims to analyze the Punggahan tradition as both a socio-cultural-religious phenomenon and a manifestation of living theology. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method through observation, interviews, and documentation involving religious leaders, community figures, and members of the Javanese ethnic group. The findings indicate that the Punggahan tradition serves not only as a ritual for welcoming Ramadan but also as a space for integrating social, cultural, and religious values in everyday life. From a socio-cultural-religious perspective, this tradition plays an important role in strengthening social solidarity, togetherness, and harmonious relationships within the community through activities such as communal prayers, grave visits, shared meals, flower bathing rituals, and mutual forgiveness. From the perspective of living theology, the Punggahan tradition demonstrates how Islamic theological values such as gratitude, monotheism (tawhid), Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), self-purification, charity, and prayer are lived and practiced in a concrete and contextual way. These values are not only understood conceptually but are embodied in daily communal practices passed down from generation to generation. Thus, it can be concluded that the Punggahan tradition represents a form of harmony between religion and culture, serving not only a social function but also standing as a real manifestation of living theology in the life of the Javanese community.

Abstract

Adolescent parenting in Minangkabau society cannot be separated from the close relationship between customary law (adat) and Islamic law (syara'). This article examines the concept of adolescent parenting based on the manuscript Pedoman Hidup di Alam Minangkabau by Sulaiman Arrasuli, with a particular focus on the integration of customary and Islamic values in family education. The study employed a library research method using a philological and descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from the manuscript, reputable journal articles, and previous studies on family education in Minangkabau society. The findings indicate that Sulaiman Arrasuli's concept of parenting emphasizes the development of moral character (akhlaq), respect for Minangkabau customary values, Islamic religious education, and adolescents' social responsibility within the community. Parenting is carried out through exemplary conduct, moral guidance, and collective supervision by both the family and the customary community. These values remain highly relevant in addressing the challenges of modernization and the contemporary crisis of adolescent morality.
