Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the amino acids profile and chemicals content (moisture content, protein, and fat) catfish and tuna products. Wet rendering process, each sample is steamed at 1500C for 30 minutes, after the sample is pressed with the aim of removing fluid from the fish's body. The liquid is centrifuged to separate the layers of oil and air. After obtaining fish oil, the byproducts are liquid / broth and solids (fish dregs). The byproducts (fish pulp and broth) were analyzed for amino acid profiles using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) (AOAC, 2005) Chemical characteristics (air content, protein, fat) were analyzed using the AOAC (2005). The results showed that glutamic acid was higher in tuna pulp which was 11.83% and catfish 8.85%, while tuna broth contained amino acid histidine which was quite high at 10.49%, and 11.53% glycine in fish broth catfish. Furthermore, the levels of pulp and fish stock are 12.63% and 78.28% respectively, catfish 11.58%; and 83.45%. The fat content of catfish is higher that is 1.84% and 3.26% compared to tuna which is 1.57% and 2.74% tuna protein is 81.16% higher than catfish which is 75.46%, but the protein content of tuna broth is 56.84% lower than that of catfish broth which is 69.16%.Keywords: amino acid profiletuna fishcatfishwet renderingby-product

Abstract

Abstract

Banggai Cardinalfish (BCF) habitat is found in protected waters, such as Lalong Bay, Banggai Regency. Banggai cardinalfish are associated with various biota such as sea urchins (especially Diadema setosum) which live close to coral reef, seagrass and mangrove ecosystems. The aim of this research was to analyze marine debris contamination in Banggai cardinalfish habitat in Lalong Bay. This research used a quadrat sampling method (2m x 2m) along 20 m-30 m line transects at 4 research stations. Based on the analysis, organic marine debris types comprised: medium-sized pieces of wood, wood chips, coconuts, coconut husks, leaves and fish carcasses. Inorganic marine debris types comprised glass bottles, tin cans, light bulbs, baby diapers, cooking oil bottles, mineral water bottles, plastic cups, plastic spoons, toothbrushes, buoys, plastic packaging, plastic baskets, lighters, ropes, fishing nets, styrofoam, rubber sandals, tires and other plastic debris. The average amount of debris was 17 items/m2, volume 0.13 m3, weight 1,251 gr/m2 at Station 1; 16.75 items/m2, volume 0.10 m3, weight 1,157 gr/m2; at Station 2; 20.5 items/m2, volume 0.04 m3, weight 2,341 gr/m2 at Station 3 26.3 items/m2, volume 0.07 m3, weight 1,895 gr/m2 at Station 4. Based on observations at these stations in the port, much of the BCF fish habitat was found to be exposed to marine debris due to high levels of human activity and a lack of waste management capacity.

Abstract

Coral reefs are ecosystems in the sea formed by lime-producing marine biota, especially stony corals and calcareous algae, along with other biota that live on the ocean floor. Coral reefs are ecosystems that play an important role in coastal areas but are vulnerable to internal and external changes. The purpose of this study was to calculate the percentage of coral reef cover and assess the condition of coral reefs on the Kapoposang Island. Coral Point Count with Excel Extension (CPCE) was used to analyze coral reef data. The data used were photos of coral reefs taken using the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method from six observation stations scattered around Kapoposang Island. Each processed photo contained 30 randomly selected points. The results of the assessment of the condition of coral reef health at five stations showed that station 1 (one) 35.62% was in moderate condition, station 2 (two) 43% was in moderate condition, station 3 (three) 46.67% was in moderate condition, station 4 (four) 40.53% is in moderate condition, station 5 (five) 41.84% is in moderate condition and station 6 (six) 29.25% is in moderate condition. From the five data collection stations the condition of coral reefs on Kapoposang Island was in the moderate category with a percentage of 39.49%.
