Abstract

The administration of medication and use of drugs in elderly patients must be carefully considered, as elderly patients are highly susceptible to adverse drug reactions. Beer’s and STOPP/START criteria are screening tools employed to prevent inappropriate drug use in geriatrics. This study aimed to determine the incidence of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) in geriatric with a history of chronic diseases at UPTD Puskesmas X. The research method was a cross-sectional observational study with prospective data collection from January to April 2024. The data was analyzed descriptively using the Beer’s 2023 criteria and STOPP/START version 3. The results of this study show that among the total sample, there were 185 geriatrics, with 132 (71.35%) females and 53 (28.65%) males. The most common chronic diseases observed were hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and osteoarthritis. According to the Beer’s criteria, there were 142 incidents of PIMs, while the STOPP criteria identified 16 incidents. Most of the drugs identified as PIMs based on both Beer’s and STOPP criteria were nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Based on the results, PIMs occurred in geriatric who sought treatment from January to April 2024 at UPTD Puskesmas X. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance services and closely monitor therapy for geriatric.  Keywords:  Beer’s, Geriatric, STOPP START

Abstract

Menstruation refers to the shedding of the uterine lining in the absence of fertilization, which occurs monthly in the female reproductive system. However, knowledge regarding menstruation is often inadequate, particularly among non-health students. This community service activity aimed to improve understanding of reproductive health through education. The study employed a one-group pre-posttest design with total sampling, involving 29 non-health female students from a university in Tasikmalaya. The pretest results showed an average score of 47.31, which significantly increased to 93.59 in the posttest. Participants with good knowledge increased from 2 to 29, while those with poor and moderate knowledge levels dropped to zero. Statistical analysis indicated a significant improvement after the educational intervention (p = 0.000). These findings demonstrate that reproductive health education effectively increases knowledge, particularly among non-health students. This initiative supports developing similar educational programs to enhance awareness and hygiene in reproductive health, ultimately improving public health quality.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental condition characterized by communication disturbances, impaired reality perception, abnormal emotional behavior, and cognitive function impairment. According to the WHO in 2022, there are approximately 24 million people with schizophrenia worldwide, with the highest prevalence in East Asia (8 million), followed by South Asia (4 million) and Southeast Asia (2 million). In Indonesia, the 2018 Riskesdas survey reported a prevalence of 6.7% for schizophrenia per 1000 households. This study aims to determine the extent of medication adherence among outpatient schizophrenia patients in the working area of Health Center X in Tasikmalaya Regency. The observational method with a cross-sectional approach was used, where data were prospectively collected through interviews using the Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS) questionnaire. The study subjects consisted of 13 respondents who were schizophrenia patients receiving treatment at Health Center X in Tasikmalaya Regency. The research findings indicate that 9 out of 13 respondents had high adherence levels, while the remaining 4 had low adherence levels. Factors such as gender, age, education level, occupation, and marital status did not significantly influence medication adherence.
