Abstract

Mobile phones are viewed as significant aids to English language learning. Numerous studies have been conducted in different contexts on mobile assisted language learning (MALL) that indicate the benefits of mobile devices for English language learning. During the recent technological years, language learning has been attempted to transform its path from the conventional methods to instrumental applications. Mobile phone provides people to reach and exchange information through chats (WhatsApp). With the rapid increase in the use of mobile devices nowadays, especially smartphones, it is only natural for educators to turn to mobile technology to examine how it can be fully integrated in an educational context to support students’ learning beyond the classroom. This study attempts to solve the lack of communicative learning opportunities by introducing mobile-assisted language learning with Whatsapp. In addition, it tries to investigates the perceptions of students towards the use of Whatsapp as a tool for develop their English writing skill. To achieve the result, a sample of 50 sophomores from the Department of English Education of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung, aged 18 to 20 years old. The results suggest that mobile-assisted language learning helps to create language immersion, which effectively motivates the learners further. Therefore, mobile-assisted language learning is promising in English learning for college students.

Abstract

The research aimed to know the influence of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) technique towards students’ writing ability at SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung. In this research the writer used experimental method or know a descriptive quantitative research. The population was 246 students in 8 classes. The sample was collected using the cluster random sampling approach. The writer used two classes as research samples: XI IPS 1 as an experimental class with 30 students and XI IPA 8 as a control class with 30 students. It consisted of 60 students. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test to measure students' writing ability. The writer used t-test formula to calculate the data analysis. According to the data analysis, the writer got the result that   was accepted. It was obtained that  3.39, for  was 1.68 and for  0.01was 2.42 (3.39> 1.68 < 2.42). So,  was accepted. It means that there was significant influence of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Technique Towards Students’ Writing Ability at The Eleventh Grade of SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung in academic year 2022/2023. And the average score of students’ writing ability who was taught through Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Technique was higher than conventional technique. It was 65.5 > 58. Based on the result of the research, it is clear that students’ Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) has good effect to students’ writing ability

Abstract

This study discovers a case study using a Zoom video conference to teach English to English Department Students (N=70) in STKIP-PGRI Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. This study aimed to uncover students’ perception of video conference activities' enlightening benefit and determine if Zoom improves writing ability. During the first semester, the instructors conducted 16 meetings in the Zoom conference, including materials and exercises to explore the writing subject. This research exposes the effectiveness of Zoom as an educational platform for teaching English. The researcher utilized open-response questionnaires as a qualitative and quantitative research method consisting of pre-test and post-test to evaluate the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the English language skills of fourth semester students majoring in economic education for the 2021/2022 academic year at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The problem raised in this study is whether the use of the supplemental teaching method can improve English language skills and student motivation. The method in this study used a classroom action research design which was carried out in three cycles. The results of the study can be concluded as follows: first, the increase can be seen from the average score of 58.93 in the first cycle, to 67.6 in the second cycle, and increased to 86.70 in the third cycle. The increase in the average value that occurred was 19.2%. Second, increasing students' ability in English is also followed by changes in student learning behaviour in a positive direction. Students become happier, more active, and give a positive response to learning English.

Abstract

This research was aimed to improve students’ writing skill through mind mapping at the seventh grade of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung. The subject of this research consisted of thirty which consisted of 11 males and 19 females. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. Kemmis and Taggart stated about the model of action research it consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps; planning, action, observing, and reflecting. The writer did pre-cycle before going to cycle 1, the pre-cycle was conducted to know the students’ writing skill and the student difficulties in writing. In this research, the writer collaborated with the English teacher at the seventh (VII A) grade of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung to carry out the data of the students. At this research the writer was focused to improve the students’ learning activities and the students’ writing skill. The students’ improvement in learning activities it could be seen from the average score of students’ learning activities of cycle 1 were 7.16 with the criteria quite active, while in the second cycle that 7.87 was active. So, during the cycle 1 and the cycle 2 there were improvement of students’ learning activity, which got 0.71 point. Meanwhile in the students’ writing ability, the improvement could be seen from the average score of pre-cycle was 64.03 there were 17 students that passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion. Then the average score of first cycle was 69.03, there were 20 students or 66.66% who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion and the average score of second cycle was 78.36 there were 25 students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion or 83.33%. Based on the result of analyzing the data it could be concluded that the Classroom Action Research through mind mapping can improve students’ learning activities and the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to explain how the relationship between vocabulary mastery and schemata on writing observational report skills. The data from this research is the main data obtained through giving assignments or tests, so that the results are in the form of quantitative descriptive data. Therefore, to find out the results, it is done using statistical calculations. From these calculations, it is known that there is a close relationship between vocabulary mastery and schemata with the skills of writing observation reports for class VII students of MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung in the 2018/2019 school year. Overall, it is concluded that students who are skilled in writing reports on observations have a close relationship with mastery of vocabulary and schemata.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of active learning in improving the ability to write exposition students of class VIII MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung, so this research can be used as a reference for one of the learning methods that can be used to improve learning achievement. The method used to achieve this goal, the researcher uses a data collection method where the methods used by researchers to collect data are observing the variables to be studied using interviews, tests, observations, and questionnaires. The results of the study can be concluded that using the jigsaw cooperative learning method can improve learning achievement in Indonesian material about exposition texts in class VIII students of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung in the 2019/2020 academic year. This can be proven from the pre-cycle of students who completed as many as 12 students with a percentage of completeness of 37.5%. The first cycle of students who completed increased to 20 students with a percentage of completeness of 62.5%. The target of classical completeness criteria is with a percentage of 85% achieved in cycle II with a completeness percentage of 100% with 32 students who complete. Pre-cycle to cycle I an increase of 25%, while the first cycle to cycle II an increase of 37.5%. This Classroom Action Research was declared successful.

Abstract

This research was conducted for several purposes, namely (1) to find out and describe the critical language form of Rocky Gerung, (2) to know and describe its motives and objectives, (3) to know and describe the critical message conveyed by Rocky Gerung in the Indonesia Lawyers Club on tvOne. Research methods use content analysis. The data and data source of this research is the critical language of Rocky gerung which aired on ILC tvOne. Collection by uploading ILC impressions on youtube specifically on the presence of Rocky Gerung and transcribe conversations into data sheets. The results showed that Rocky Gerung's critical language in the ILC aired on tvOne was generally firm, straightforward, and clear. The firmness of the RG language is because it is directly in the ILC discussion forum entitled 'Testing KPU Neutrality', 'The Face of Our Decomrasiration', and FPI Permit Back and Forth'. The goal is to criticize government policies, regulations, including the KPU and the constitutional court. The message conveyed, namely the government needs to be wise and fair to see and respond to every conflict that arises from the bottom to the top of the political elite so as to create a comprehensive justice.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the values ​​of character education in the novel “ Selamat Tinggal” by Tere Liye. The researcher cites data in the form of words, sentences, paragraphs and dialogues contained in the novel that contains various character education values ​​including: character education values ​​for reading, tolerance, working hard, appreciating achievement, honesty, love for the homeland, curiosity, environmental care, and social care. The approach used in this research is to use a qualitative method approach. With this type of library research, namely by analyzing data in the form of sentences, paragraphs, or dialogues that contain character education values. draw the final conclusion, the researcher did not use statistical formulas and hypothesis testing. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the ten values ​​of character education contained in the novel Selamat Tinggal by Tere Liye that most dominantly appear are the value of character education respecting achievement. The value of character education respecting achievement is also in accordance with the title of Tere Liye's novel Selamat Tinggal, which very nicely presents the phenomenon of this product through Sintong Stay's glasses. Tere Liye seemed to express all opinions and criticisms, especially on pirated books because many of his books were also pirated.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of using image media and vocabulary mastery on narrative composition ability in Elementary School students. The method used in this study is the experimental method. The population in this study was students in class V of SDN 1 Labuhan in a total of 127 people divided into 3 classes. The classes used as research samples are VA class as experiment, VB class as control and VC class as instrument trial class. The sampling technique in this study is a random sampling technique. The researcher's data analysis uses the t test and an ANAVA variance analysis. The results of this study are (1) there is a difference in the ability to make up narratives of students who learn to use image media and students who learn to use audio media research data shows a score of 2,263 with a significant 0.026 < 0.05, (2) there is a difference in the ability to make up narratives in the group of students who master high vocabulary between learning to use image media and using audio media (sound) Based on calculations, obtained experiments with a significant count of 0.031 and a t table of 1.761 at a significant level of 0.05. Because the calculation > t table and a significant level of 0.031< 0.05, (3) there is a difference in the ability to make up narratives in groups of students who master low vocabulary, between those who learn to use image media and use audio media (sound), and (4) there is an interaction of the use of image media and mastery of student vocabulary with the ability to make up student narratives. Therefore, the researchers concluded that there is an interaction between the use of image media and the mastery of student vocabulary to the ability to make up student narratives.
