Abstract

This research aimed to improve students’ learning activities and their reading comprehension by using Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text (GIST) strategy. In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research as the method of this research. This research implemented Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text (GIST) in 2 cycles with 3 meetings in each cycle. The sample of this research was in one class with 31 students. The test used in this research was 30 multiple choice questions. The average score of students’ activities based on the observation sheet in cycle I obtained range 7 which categorized as quite active and increased to be 7.7 in cycle II which categorized as active. The average score of students’ reading comprehension in cycle I was 68.46 and increased to be 79.11 in cycle II. The percentage of the students’ reading comprehension test in cycle I who passed Minimum Mastery Criteria was 45.16% students passed the KKM and in cycle II the result increased to be 83.87% students passed KKM. From the learning activities and test result, the researcher concluded that there was an improvement in students' learning activities and their reading comprehension by implementing Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text (GIST) strategy at the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 21 Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2021/2022.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the learner's perception regarding online learning implementation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection was done through a survey questionnaire consisting of both open-ended and close-ended questions, and continued by interview activities. The participants in this study amounted to 28 students of 3rd semester of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. Data collection techniques in this study used questionnaires with Likert scale and interview. Results from this research showed that students have a positive attitude toward the online learning experience in general. The implementation of online learning during a pandemic is considered an effective and cheap way of accessing knowledge. However, most students showed frustration due to bad internet access, which affects their learning success. Students also felt the need for improvement in terms of interaction and engagement between students and teachers.

Abstract

The research aimed to know the influence of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) technique towards students’ writing ability at SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung. In this research the writer used experimental method or know a descriptive quantitative research. The population was 246 students in 8 classes. The sample was collected using the cluster random sampling approach. The writer used two classes as research samples: XI IPS 1 as an experimental class with 30 students and XI IPA 8 as a control class with 30 students. It consisted of 60 students. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test to measure students' writing ability. The writer used t-test formula to calculate the data analysis. According to the data analysis, the writer got the result that   was accepted. It was obtained that  3.39, for  was 1.68 and for  0.01was 2.42 (3.39> 1.68 < 2.42). So,  was accepted. It means that there was significant influence of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Technique Towards Students’ Writing Ability at The Eleventh Grade of SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung in academic year 2022/2023. And the average score of students’ writing ability who was taught through Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Technique was higher than conventional technique. It was 65.5 > 58. Based on the result of the research, it is clear that students’ Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) has good effect to students’ writing ability
