Abstract

The main objective of teaching English as a Foreign Language is enables students to use English for communication in real-life situations. However, it is a fact that many students find difficulties in mastering English. They cannot speak English well although they have learned English for years. It is the teachers’ responsibility to encourage students to practice their English at least in the classroom hours. The English teachers should apply various teaching techniques and teaching media that over higher and wider opportunities to use English in real-life situations.All kinds of instructional activities and exercises provided by the English teachers should offer and challenge students to use English orally sothat they will not be afraid of making mistakes in their speaking.

Abstract

Abstract

Lots of students find the difficulties when they have to put their thoughts into writing. Moreover, when they need to do the proofreading and editing their own writing, this inevitably makes writing exceptionally tiring and distressing. In this study, researchers focused on a series of writing processes, especially editing and proofreading activities. The objective of this research was to find out the influence of Peer Editing online technique towards the students’ research proposal writing skill and to know and to describe whether the effectiveness of the students’ research proposal writing skill who learn through peer editing online is higher than those who learn through conventional technique. The research was conducted by using a quasi-experimental design with pretest and post-test. The population of this research are the students at the fifth semester of English education major at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung that consisted of 63 students in 2 classes. The sample of this research were two classes, they were as control class and experimental class. Control class was taught by Individual writing while experimental class was taught by peer editing online technique. In getting the data, the researchers used writing test. The result showed that based on the calculation, the researchers got that = 5.41 and = 2.00 and 2.66. It means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. From the result above, the researchers state that there is an improvement and an significant influence of Peer editing online technique towards students’ research proposal writing skill.

Abstract

The research aimed to know the influence of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) technique towards students’ writing ability at SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung. In this research the writer used experimental method or know a descriptive quantitative research. The population was 246 students in 8 classes. The sample was collected using the cluster random sampling approach. The writer used two classes as research samples: XI IPS 1 as an experimental class with 30 students and XI IPA 8 as a control class with 30 students. It consisted of 60 students. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test to measure students' writing ability. The writer used t-test formula to calculate the data analysis. According to the data analysis, the writer got the result that   was accepted. It was obtained that  3.39, for  was 1.68 and for  0.01was 2.42 (3.39> 1.68 < 2.42). So,  was accepted. It means that there was significant influence of Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Technique Towards Students’ Writing Ability at The Eleventh Grade of SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung in academic year 2022/2023. And the average score of students’ writing ability who was taught through Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) Technique was higher than conventional technique. It was 65.5 > 58. Based on the result of the research, it is clear that students’ Plus, Minus, Interesting (PMI) has good effect to students’ writing ability

Abstract

This present research aimed to investigate the integration of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) and Zoom conference for improving students' reading comprehension. Classroom Action Research was the research design employed in this study. The independent variable was the DRTA Strategy and the dependent variable was the students' reading comprehension. There were 30 students as the subject of this study. Reading test, field notes, questionnaires, interview, and observation sheets were the instrument of research for collecting the data. The findings of pre-test and post-test mean scores showed the improvement of students' reading comprehension using the integration of DRTA Strategy and Zoom conference. Furthermore, this combination can help English learner achieve the learning target. The students can get many benefits from using this combination to study English. They also can conduct an effective teaching-learning activity in a modern way even though they are not allowed to attend the face-to-face classroom

Abstract

Since was in school, the high schoolers need to be mastered English writing skill, because in senior high school there are kind of texts that they need to learn. That is why the ability to write English texts is very important also for university students especially for those studying in the economics education. The Problems in writing that students faced is not only in generating ideas but also in arranging the sentences. The students have difficulty in distinguishing which are noun, adverb, adjective and verb. The students have low score because there are many mistakes in their writing. The objective of this research is to raise the students’ skill in writing report text through write around strategy. The write around strategy can increase students’ motivation in writing and allow them to be more enjoy in writing activity. Through write around strategy, it makes easier for the students to compose sentences and express their mind into the writing form. The subject of the research were the third semester students in economic education of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2023/2024. The questions in this research are, whether employing the write around strategy can improve students’ learning activity in writing and whether employing the write around strategy can improve students’ writing skill of report text. Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the Influence of Collaborative Writing Technie on Students’ Writing Skills in Essay. The objective of this research is to know and describe the influence of Collaborative Writing Technique towards students’ writing skills in Essay. The method of this research was conducted by using quasi experimental method. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test. In analyzing the data, the writer used formula. Based on the result, the writer found that the average score of student’s writing skills on essay in experimental class was higher than control class ( = 67.5 > = 60). Based on the data analysis by using formula that was higher than (3.64 > 2.00 > 2.66). Therefoe, it is concluded that there is an influence of Collaborative Writing Technique towards students’ writing skills in essay at the fifth semester of English Department of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. It means Collaborative Writing Technique is an effective technique which can be implemented by the teacher to improve students’ writing skills, especially in teaching essay.

Abstract

This study discovers a case study using a Zoom video conference to teach English to English Department Students (N=70) in STKIP-PGRI Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. This study aimed to uncover students’ perception of video conference activities' enlightening benefit and determine if Zoom improves writing ability. During the first semester, the instructors conducted 16 meetings in the Zoom conference, including materials and exercises to explore the writing subject. This research exposes the effectiveness of Zoom as an educational platform for teaching English. The researcher utilized open-response questionnaires as a qualitative and quantitative research method consisting of pre-test and post-test to evaluate the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the English language skills of fourth semester students majoring in economic education for the 2021/2022 academic year at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The problem raised in this study is whether the use of the supplemental teaching method can improve English language skills and student motivation. The method in this study used a classroom action research design which was carried out in three cycles. The results of the study can be concluded as follows: first, the increase can be seen from the average score of 58.93 in the first cycle, to 67.6 in the second cycle, and increased to 86.70 in the third cycle. The increase in the average value that occurred was 19.2%. Second, increasing students' ability in English is also followed by changes in student learning behaviour in a positive direction. Students become happier, more active, and give a positive response to learning English.

Abstract

The research aimed to know the effect of Freewriting technique on students’ ability to write procedure text. This research used a quantitative method. There were two classes as the sample in this research which was taken randomly from 24 classes. One class was AKL 1 as experimental, there were 35 students, and the other class was AKL 2 as the control class, there were 35 students. In determining the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used a writing test. In analysing the data, the researcher used the t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that ttest 6.66 and ttable = 1.67 with the significance 5% (0,05) and ttable =2.39 with the significance 1% (0,01). It means that ttest > ttable. So, Ha was accepted. This shows that there is any positive and significant influence of using freewriting technique on the students’ writing ability. The students who were taught through the Freewriting technique got a higher score than those who were not taught through Freewriting technique. The average score of the experimental class was 68.61 and the average score of the control class was 57.14.
