Abstract

Background: Stunting was the impact of chronic malnutrition in the long term and has an impact on children's growth and development disorders. Stunting has become a priority for the Indonesian government, including in the Province of East Nusa Tenggara with a stunting reduction target of 14% in 2024. The Indonesian governments have made many efforts to overcome stunting. Religious leaders are parties suspected of being able to play a role in the process. This study was aimed to determine the factors that influence the role of religious leaders in supporting the process of accelerating stunting reduction in the dry land area in East Nusa Tenggara. Subjects and Method: This was a mixed-method study. This study was conducted in May 2022 using the focus group discussion (FGD) method and involved 13 religious leaders who were taken purposively. The data collected were analyzed qualitatively (making interview transcripts) and quantitatively. The independent variables were level of understanding about stunting, support for policies/programs related to stunting, stunting program budget support, national program support: CATIN facilitation, and cross-sectoral cooperation support. The statistical analysis used is multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: Factors that significantly influence the role of religious leaders are the level of understanding of religious leaders about stunting (aOR= 3.50; 95% CI= 0.12 to 12.3; p= 0.010) and support factors for cross-sectoral cooperation (aOR= 2.00; 95% CI= 1.22 to 21.10; p= 0.007). Budget support for stunting related policies/ program (aOR= 2.40; 95% CI= 1.76 to 12.32; p= 0.621), support policy/ program related to stunting (aOR= 1.70; 95% CI= 1.27 to 7.32; p= 0.387), and national program, support “CATIN Mentoring” (aOR= 1.10; 95% CI= 0.37 to 21.02; p= 0.621) were statistically non-significant. Conclusion: Factors that influence the role of religious leaders were the level of understanding of religious leaders about stunting, support factors for cross-sectoral cooperation, budget support for stunting related policies, support policy related to stunting national program, and support “CATIN Mentoring”. Keywords: the role of religious leaders, acceleration of stunting prevention, chronic malnutrition. Abstract

The background of toddlers experiencing stunting indicates chronic poor health conditions, which can be dangerous if not treated (Indonesian Ministry of Health Data and Information Center, 2018). Indonesia is a country with a fairly high prevalence of stunting compared to other middle-income countries. Data from the NTT Provincial Health Service for 2022 experienced an increase of 1.1 percent from 2021, namely 20.9 percent. Data on the stunting rate in 2022, which rose to 22.0, was released by the NTT Working Group (Pokja) for handling stunting as of March 18 2022. One of the areas with the highest prevalence is Kupang Regency with a proportion of 41.4% or 5,390 children under five. The number of toddlers in the Tarus health center is 5141 people, 548 stunted children, and 122 stunted children in East Penfui village (Tarus PKM Data, 2022). The aim is to find out the knowledge of posyandu cadres in handling stunting in East Penfui village, the Tarus Health Center working area, Kupang Regency. The method used is descriptive which describes the characteristics of a population/phenomenon that is the object of research. Researchers want to know the understanding of posyandu cadres about preventing stunting in children. The research subjects were all posyandu cadres in East Penfui Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency.

Abstract

Labor is a physiological process that requires energy and endurance. Fulfillment of nutrition and hydration are important factors during the labor process to ensure adequate energy and normal fluid and electrolyte balance in the mother. Normal delivery care recommends providing nutritional intake to pregnant women, but so far the nutritional needs of mothers have not been taken into account so that it is not known whether the nutritional needs of mothers have been fulfilled or not. Ideal food for pregnant women must have homogeneous quality, liquid or semi-solid, contain iso osmotic, neutral pH, neutral temperature, high in carbohydrates, high in calories, low in fat, low in residue and delicious. Objective: This study aims to determine the fulfillment of nutrition and hydration of pregnant women during the delivery process at the Sikumana Health Center. This study was a descriptive study with a survey method approach to identify the type and amount of nutrition intake and hydration of pregnant women during the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th stages of labor. The results showed that the foods consumed by the mother during labor were rice, vegetables, and side dishes. While for the drinks consumed are water and tea. The provision of information about the importance of fulfilling hydration (eating and drinking) to mothers since pregnancy is highly recommended so that the knowledge and understanding of mothers in childbirth is good.

Abstract

Background: The nutritional condition of adolescents is a crucial element of their general health and development, shaped by several factors, including physical activity and sleep quality. Nutritional challenges in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) encompass both under-nutrition and over-nutrition among adolescents. According to Riskesdas data from 2018, the prevalence of malnutrition among adolescents in NTT was 25.7% for those aged 13-15 years and 26.9% for those aged 16-18 years, while the obesity rate was 16% for adolescents aged 13-15 years. This issue is further intensified by insufficient physical exercise and poor sleep. Despite the existence of several interventions targeting dietary behaviors, the correlation between these elements and nutritional health remains underexplored, particularly in NTT. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the correlation between physical activity, sleep quality, and nutritional status in teenagers aged 15 to 18 years at SMK Negeri 3 Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. This study sought to determine the primary determinants factors affecting the nutritional status of teenagers, particularly in regions experiencing intricate dietary challenges such as NTT. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional study design, conducted in April 2024 at SMK Negeri 3 Kupang. A total of 221 students were selected using the probability sampling technique. Physical activity was categorized into mild, moderate, and vigorous activities, assessed by the Physical Activity Level (PAL) questionnaire. Sleep quality was assessed via the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while nutritional status was determined by body mass index (BMI). The correlation test was carried out using Goodman and Kruskal gamma and strengthened by the Chi-square test to compare the distribution of nutritional status in various categories of physical activity and sleep quality. Results: This study showed no significant correlation between physical activity, sleep quality, and nutritional status, with a p-value greater than 0.05. Despite variations in exercise levels and sleep quality among groups with differing nutritional statuses, the correlation between these characteristics and nutritional status was not statistically significant.  Conclusion: Physical activity and sleep quality alone are sufficient to determine adolescent nutritional health. A more holistic approach that incorporates additional aspects such as nutrition, socioeconomic status, and other characteristics, is required. Effective therapies should focus on enhancing dietary behaviors, augmenting physical activity, managing stress, and fostering improved sleep patterns to elevate adolescent nutritional status.
