Abstract

Background: The incidence of dengue fever in the City of Bandung is still a problem that must be resolved immediately. Efforts to eradicate mosquito nests are one of the most effective ways to reduce disease transmission. Eradication can be carried out from mosquitoes still in the form of larvae.Purpose: To determine the relationship between the presence of aedes aegypti mosquito larvae with the incidence of dengue haemorrhagic fever.Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the working area of Puter Health Centre. The research sample was taken using the stratified random sampling technique, which was 63 respondents. The instrument in this study was to use a checklist sheet using the observation method. Data analysis using chi-square test. Results: Most of the houses observed did not have mosquito larvae, of 63.5 per cent, and most did not suffer from dengue haemorrhagic fever, which was 82.5 per cent. There is a relationship between the presence of mosquito larvae and the incidence of dengue haemorrhagic fever. Conclusion: People who live in homes with mosquito larvae are 6.5 times more likely to suffer from dengue haemorrhagic fever compared to people who live in homes where there are no mosquito larvae.Suggestion: To the Public Health Centre to optimize larva monitor cadres to carry out monitoring every week at people's homes.

Abstract

Background: One of the health problems is the high prevalence of stunting in toddlers. The main cause of stunting is nutrition. Early prevention efforts are needed to overcome stunting.Purpose: To determine the effect of exclusive breastfeeding and complete basic vaccination on the incidence of stunting.Method: A cross-sectional design was used in this study. Samples were taken from 80 respondents with purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaires are used as research instruments. The analysis used is the chi-square test. Results: Showed that there was a significant effect between exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting in toddlers (p = 0.001 and OR = 7.050 CI 95% = 2.150-23.117). There was a significant effect between complete basic vaccination on the incidence of stunting in toddlers (p = 0.039 and OR = 3.667 CI 95% = 1.191-11.285).Conclusion: Toddlers who are stunted are caused by the non-provision of exclusive breastfeeding at the age of 0-6 months and incomplete basic vaccination.Suggestion: To health workers to further educate cadres and the public about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and complete basic vaccination, as an effort to prevent stunting. Keywords: Stunting; Exclusive Breastfeeding; Basic vaccination; Toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Food security and nutrition knowledge are important components of public health promotion, particularly when health education is delivered through community settings rooted in local culture. Religious institutions such as mosques can provide accessible settings for integrating health education with community engagement. However, evidence regarding participants’ knowledge and acceptance of mosque-based health promotion activities remains limited. Purpose: This study aimed to describe participants’ knowledge of food security and nutrition and their acceptance of a mosque-based community health promotion program. Method: A quantitative descriptive study using a cross-sectional evaluation approach was conducted among 23 community participants who attended a mosque-based health promotion activity. Data were collected using a 17-item knowledge questionnaire consisting of 10 food security items and seven nutrition items, along with eight five-point Likert-scale items assessing program acceptance. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize participant characteristics, item-level knowledge, knowledge scores, and acceptance ratings. Results: The participants had a mean age of 54.48 ± 11.75 years, ranging from 29 to 76 years, and most were involved in household management (69.6%). The mean food security knowledge score was 8.04 ± 1.77 out of 10, while the mean nutrition knowledge score was 5.22 ± 1.48 out of 7. The overall mean knowledge score was 13.26 ± 2.60 out of 17. Knowledge gaps were primarily observed in identifying the components of food security, sustainable agriculture, the recommended proportion of vegetables and fruits according to Isi Piringku (My Plate), and the recommended duration of physical activity. Program acceptance was high, with an overall mean rating of 4.67 ± 0.65 on a five-point scale. The mosque as a setting for health promotion received a mean rating of 4.61 ± 0.72, with 95.7% of participants giving a rating of 4 or 5. Conclusion: Participants demonstrated relatively high levels of food security and nutrition knowledge and good acceptance of the mosque-based community health promotion program. These findings support the potential acceptability of mosque-based settings for integrating food security and nutrition education into community health promotion. Further studies involving larger samples, validated instruments, and pre–post or controlled designs are needed to assess changes in knowledge and determine program effectiveness.
