Abstract

Introduction: Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is an important rehabilitative approach as it plays a crucial role in the male urinary mechanism and urinary continence as well as strength. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of PFMT in the treatment of urinary incontinence post radical prostatectomy in patients with prostate cancer. Methods: Studies were systematically identified by searching electronic databases with the keywords “pelvic floor muscle training” AND “urinary incontinence” AND “radical prostatectomy” and consisted of 103 articles from Scopus, 60 articles from Science Direct, 34 articles from EBSCO, and 195 articles from Pro Quest. The data sources were limited to articles published from 2011 to 2020 and those published in English. Results: Fifteen studies were included in this systematic review with inclusion criteria being patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, men with urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy, types of study: Randomized Controlled Study (RCT) and protocol study, intervention: PFMT and main outcome: continence rate. Twelve of fifteen articles suggest PFMT is significantly more effective than the standard care in improving recovery of continence in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. Conclusion: PFMT is effectively carried out with a duration of 10-45 minutes per day with 10 contractions in a lying, sitting, and standing position with three sets, time of contractions 5-10 seconds and relaxation 5-10 seconds. The benefits of this review are that PFMT is suitable, well accepted and achievable for the patients who experience incontinence after radical prostatectomy.

Abstract

Caring becomes an essential concept in fundamental nursing and is impactful in the quality of health services and nursing practice. However, factors in educational level among nursing students contribute to shaping and creating good caring behavior among nurses in clinical settings. The purpose of this study aimed to explore factors associated with caring among nursing students. A survey using a cross-sectional study was conducted in this study. It involved nursing students in a clinical phase amount of 256 respondents. The sampling technique was quota sampling and questionnaires were used to assess caring and organizational factors. The Chi-square test and binary logistic regression were employed to explore the determinant factors of caring behavior. Most of the percentage of nursing students caring behavior was 50% good category which was mostly aged 17-25 years (49.4%) and female (51.2%). Emotional (OR=3.49; 95% CI=1.45-8.44) and quantitative workload (OR=0.29; 95% CI=0.10-0.84) were significantly related to caring behavior among nursing students. The proportion of nursing students who have good and poor caring behavior was found equal. Moreover, significant results were also noted between emotional workload and caring behavior. Providing quality education is necessary to ensure nursing students can improve their ability to care for patients.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety is a common response experienced by patients when receiving treatment in the hospital, often triggered by unfamiliar environments, interactions with medical personnel, and uncertainty about the results of treatment. This study aims to explore the level of anxiety in patients and the factors that influence it. Methods: This study used a descriptive survey method with a quantitative approach, involving 100 patients who received treatment at Hospital X. Data was collected via the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: The results showed that 60% of patients experienced moderate anxiety, 25% experienced high anxiety, and 15% experienced mild anxiety. The analysis shows a significant positive relationship between length of stay and anxiety level (r = 0.42, p < 0.05) as well as a negative relationship between education level and anxiety (r = -0.35, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The discussion in this study highlights that environmental factors in hospitals and the quality of communication between medical personnel and patients significantly influence patient anxiety levels. These results are consistent with previous research showing the importance of a supportive environment and effective communication in reducing anxiety. Therefore, interventions aimed at improving the hospital environment and communication with patients are highly recommended to reduce anxiety and improve the quality of care.
