Abstract

Aphasia is the loss of language function due to brain damage in an area associated with language comprehension and production. Patients with aphasia need a method that can be used to aid language recovery, one of which uses the method of response elaboration training (RET) by providing a stimulus for narrative ability through speech prompting. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the application of the Response Elaboration Training (RET) method on storytelling ability in aphasia patients in Surakarta City. This study experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design and five intervention using the response elaboration training (RET) method. The total sampling technique with the of respondents in this study amounted to 15 respondents with aphasia. The Wilcoxon test was used for data analysis. Results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a p-value (Sig.) of 0.001 (p-value <0.05), so it can be concluded that there is an efficacy of the aphasia training. There is an effectiveness of the application of the response elaboration training (RET) method on the narrative ability of aphasia patients in Surakarta City.

Abstract

Background: Factors that can influence the success of the educational process are family environmental factors, school environment, and community environment. The role of parents is to provide materials and help their children when they experience difficulties in the learning process. Language skills emerge in early childhood and are critical in promoting later literacy competencies, such as reading and writing. The period from birth to age 3 is critical for language development, as nearly all typically developing children acquire important language skills by age 3. During this period, children's home environment is especially important, as parents are the main providers of language input and support, allowing most children to acquire a basic foundation of language. Methods: This study used a cross sectional study design, which was conducted in Surakarta City. A sample of 100 people was selected using a random sampling technique. Data collection was performed using a questionnaire and analyzed by path analysis. Results: The direct relationship between expressive language abilities of children who have mothers with higher education is 2.2 units higher than children with mothers with low education (b=2.2; 95% CI= 0.9 to 3.5; p= 0.001). A high home literacy environment had a log odd of experiencing good expressive language skills of 2.04 units higher than children with a low home literacy environment (b=2.04; 95% CI= 0.7 to 3.3; p= 0.002). The indirect relationship between maternal higher education and expressive language abilities through the child's home literacy environment is statistically significant. Children who have mothers with higher education have log odd for high language expressive abilities of 2.8 units higher than children with mothers with low education (b=2.8; 95% CI= 1.7 to 3.9; p= <;0.001). Conclusion: A child's good expressive language abilities are influenced indirectly by the mother's high education through a high home literacy environment.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses the effect of phonological awareness intervention, especially phoneme blending, on the reading fluency of 3rd grade elementary school children with suspected learning disorders in Surakarta. This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of phonological awareness intervention on the reading fluency of children suspected of having learning disorders in grade 3 of elementary school in Surakarta. This research is a quantitative research using the One Group Pre-Test and Post-Test Design method and non-parametric statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with a total frequency of interventions of 8 treatments. The number of samples used in this study was 10 children with suspected learning disorders in grade 3 of elementary school in Surakarta. The results of this study indicate that based on the results of non-parametric statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test obtained a significance value of p = 0.005. Because the p value < 0.05, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This proves that there is a statistically significant difference between WCPM scores in the pretest and posttest. The results of the study show that PA intervention on reading fluency is influenced by consistency of the intervention implementation.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a significant modifiable risk factor for stroke. Preventive behaviors are influenced by patients’ knowledge, perceptions of stroke risk and severity, perceived benefits and barriers to prevention, and confidence in taking preventive actions. Methods: This study investigated the association between Health Belief Model (HBM)- based health perceptions and stroke prevention behaviors among patients with hypertension. Result: This cross-sectional observational study included 40 patients with hypertension at Posyandu ILP Kridha Utama, selected via purposive sampling. We collected data using a validated HBM-based questionnaire with 20 items on health perception and 10 items on stroke prevention behavior, each rated on a four-point scale. The instruments demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.947 and 0.925, respectively). We analyzed the data using Spearman rank correlation. Results: Most respondents exhibited moderate health perception (60.0%), and 62.5% demonstrated good stroke prevention behavior. Health perception was positively and significantly correlated with stroke prevention behavior (Spearman’s rho = 0.663, p < 0.001).001). Conclusion: Higher HBM-based health perception was associated with improved stroke prevention behavior among patients with hypertension. However, interpret these findings with caution because of the small sample size, purposive sampling method, and predominance of female respondents.
